Chapter 2: Starting Feminisation
I woke up on Sunday morning feeling better rested than ever. For the first time ever, I didn't need to put a false mask of masculinity on. I grabbed a piece of toast and had a quick shower washing away the pleasures of last night. I heard my phone vibrating, informing me that I received a text. I skipped merrily towards the phone, expecting a message from my lover boy Dan. To my surprise it was a message form his mum, Mary, it said,
"My son was thrilled with you last night. Heard you two had a late night."
I replied with.
"Yes. I hope he wasn't too tired this morning. He was the perfect Gentlemen last night"
A few seconds later I got another message from Mary.
"That's good to hear, Dan said you two came to an understanding last night. He said you are interested in expressing your femininity luv. I can help with that if you want."
Guess Dan revealed all my trade secrets to his mum. Cat's out of the bag. There's no going back- not that I want to anyway.
"I would love your help. Mary"
"Great, I'll come to yours and then we can go to the city centre to grab everything we need"
It seems like I opened pandora's box, Mary wants to start today and even go out to buy stuff. I wonder what kind of items she has in mind. I searched in my wardrobe for an outfit to wear, all my clothes now looked horrible to me. I had a range of black and navy shirts that I used to wear all the time but now the idea of wearing those felt like I was hiding myself away. I really need to add some colour to my wardrobe. I felt the same about my trousers, there were all straight cut and felt like wearing blocks of cement down my legs. I settled on wearing the only thing that made me feel like the new me. I wore my pink hoodie from yesterday. The scent of Dan still lingered on it. It was intoxicating. Wearing something that had his traces on felt right. I was wearing something that told the world I was his property. As for the bottoms, I didn't feel like wearing anything long; I wanted to wear something that kept my legs cool. I settled on some light blue shorts. The oversized pink hoodie came down all the way to my knees and completely covered my light blue shorts. In the mirror it looked like I was wearing a pink longsleeve jersey dress. I liked the look. I knew just the thing to complete it, some white ankle socks and my white converse.
I got a call from Mary telling me that she was outside my uni accommodation. She was standing next to a red beetle car when I got down to the entrance. As soon a she saw me, she rushed over to me and gave me an all encompassing hug that swept me off my feet.
"You look so lovely, Ridley" she said as she put me down back down on to the pavement.
"Would you like to come in for a cuppa," I asked, inviting her into the building.
"I would love to, dear," she replied with her homely smile.
We went back up to my flat and I showed her my room.
"Looks nice luv, but it could do with a women's touch. Add a bit of colour into this room," she suggested.
"Yeah, you are right Mary, I think I should, but I don't know where to start, "I replied.
"I can help you with that dear. And it seems maybe your wardrobe could do with some colour too," she said as she opened my wardrobe.
"You know Mary, I was just thinking that this morning," I laughed. "Do you take any sugar."
"Just milk for me dear," she replied.
I made my way to the kitchen and prepared two cups of Yorkshire tea and made myself back into my room to find Mary sitting on my bed and writing on a piece of paper.
"Just a writing a list of things we need to get luv," she said as soon as she saw me enter the room.
"Milk no sugar," I said, handing her a cup of tea.
"Ahhh this is lovely."
"Yeah, Yorkshire tea is the best."
"Well, the tea's not so bad but I meant this. Us two together. With Dan and his father and his two bothers at home, I haven't had a girl's trip in a while."
She considered me a girl. I didn't correct her. I didn't want to. After we finished the tea, we decided to make our way into the city centre to get a new wardrobe and some items to spruce up my room. We got into her red beetle and drove all the way to the mall with all the fancy clothing shops that recently opened.
"I am not sure I can afford stuff from all the store in here. I was thinking more of something like primark," I said, voicing my concerns.
"Aww don't you worry about it; I'll pay for it."
"No, you don't have to."
"Nonsense, I think of you as family now Ridely. I want to spoil you like the daughter I never had."
I didn't know how to respond to that. I agreed with what Dan told me last night about people having masculine and feminine spirits and me being on the feminine side of the spectrum; but I wasn't ready to be considered someone's daughter or a women.
We arrived at the mall parking lot and started our shopping trip. We got out of the car and Mary came over to me and grabbed my hand and we made our way into the shops. For anyone passing by we must have looked like a mother and daughter out on a shipping trip. The first shop we went to was River Island, I was hesitant to explore the women's section, but Mary pulled me along into it.
"Aww hun, I think the clothes here will fit you better than the ones in the men's section. Let's give it a try," she said as she pulled me along.
She grabbed a blue and white floral pattern shift dress and held it up against me.
"How about this," she asked.
"It's a bit much isn't it. I don't know about the floral pattern," I replied.
"Awww you not much of a girly gurl ah, just don't make goth your style. I don't think I can do with that much black in my life luv," she laughed.
"How about this?" I asked, grabbing a dark blue denim belted mini dress.
"That's lovely, It definitely suits you," she said enthusiastically.
We walked around River Island, grabbing everything that caught our fancy. I got a blue strip dress shirt, a light pink and white strip bow detail shift mini dress, a white satin front blouse, a blue denim wide leg jeans and a few pairs of black jeggings. Meanwhile, Mary grabbed me a navy blue twist neck halter shift dress, a blue sequin fringe crop t-shirt, a cream textured bardot top and a red frill bardot top. With all the clothes in our hands we made our way into the fitting rooms and was greeted by an elderly female attendant.
"Aww daughter and mother shopping trip, I loved doing it with mine when she was younger," the attendant said as she ushered us into a changing room.
"Don't they grow up so fast," added Mary.
I couldn't believe that I passed as a women and the attendant thought I was Mary's daughter. I should have been offended by that but instead I felt pride.
Mary joined me in the changing room and closed the door behind us. I was not expecting her to join me and I gave a puzzled look.
"Don't worry hun, you don't have any parts that I haven't seen before," she laughed.
I started to take off my pink hoodie and the cold air hit my body causing my nipples to get erect and goosebumps to appear all over my chest.
"Aww honey what I wouldn't give for those hips and that tucked tummy," she said, eyeing me like a piece of meat.
"Thanks...I guess," I laughed.
"Ohhhh are you cold, maybe we should pick up some cotton bras. They should keep you warm."
"I don't know about that. I don't want to wear bras."
"Ohhh just some cotton bras, they are more like vests. Not any pushup bras. They will keep your chest warm. Nobody will be able to see that you are wearing bras luv. Nothing to worry about"
"Well, if it's like a vest, I'll try it."
I tried on all the different dresses and clothes we both collected. They all fitted me perfectly; like they were specifically tailored to my body. I never had that with any of the clothes from the men's section. Mary kept on giving me compliments every single time I tried on a new piece of clothing. Her encouragement gave me more confidence and made me feel more confident in my skin. I loved all the clothes and couldn't deicide on what to throw away; therefore, she brought me all the clothes that we selected.
Afterwards, we went to Zara and got some graphic T-shirts of various different colours that I could wear throughout the week to uni. Mary also suggested I get a pair of blue denim flare jeans that complimented my curves. I loved them too. While I was at Zara, an accessory grabbed my eye, I have never worn any necklace but I felt drawn to a gold chain with a sliver butterfly.
"Aww honey I think that's beautiful; it really suits you. In a way you are like a butterfly. You have been living as caterpillar for all your life and now you have just come out of you cocoon and turned into a beautiful butterfly." Mary said earnestly.
That nearly made me cry. Her words hit it right on the nail. I am changing and becoming more confident with myself.
Then, we went to House of Fraser to get some coats and cardigans. While we were there, Mary also found a white skintight mini dress that she was adamant would be my head-turning dress. I also grabbed some Tommy Flatform shoes and some rings to complete my accessories collection.
Later Mary suggested that we split up, she wanted me to got to H&M to grab some casual wear while she went to grab some items for my room. At H&M I got some white sweats, 3 different crop tops and a green Bardot jumpsuit. Mary came to meet me at H&M with a 3 different bags filled to the brim. We went to the car to put all our purchases in the trunk of the car.
"Before we leave Ridely, we should go to superdrug. We need to get some product." She said closing the trunk of her car.
I wasn't sure what she meant by product but I realised that she was talking about makeup when we arrived at superdrug.
"I am not sure I want to wear makeup," I protested.
"Awww honey, I am not saying paint on a new face. But how about some foundation to cover any daily zits you get, some blush to add some colour to your cheeks and some nude lipstick to bring out your lovely lips. Those K-pop boyband members use that type of makeup. Trust me it wouldn't be weird," she replied calmly.
Mary hadn't led me astray thus far, so I agreed, and we purchased the make-up items and finally left the mall. Once we got back into my room, we started to re-arrange my wardrobe. We made two piles, one of clothes to give to charity, one of clothes to keep. I got rid of many of my black t-shirts and replaced with them the ones we brought. I also got rid of my old jeans and replaced with the new tight jeggings and jeans we brought. I was tired from the day events and now re-ranging the wardrobe was making me feel exhausted. Mary noticed this and suggested a remedy my tiredness.
