This is Part 1 of a 4 Part story
For as long as I can remember, Mark had always been single, though it remained a mystery to me and everyone else, he dated a lot but just never seemed to be in a serious relationship. Mark was in his early 20's, just as I was. But he was far more popular, over 6ft tall and was naturally blessed with a slim but toned body thanks to the endless marathons he seemed to be running.
It annoyed me how little effort he could put into almost everything, his hair was short and seemingly always messy, he often looked like he got dressed in the dark, yet, women seemed to adore him. The messier his hair was, the more they seemed to want to run their hands through it, the less effort he put into his appearance, the more tinder dates he seemed to go on. The times when I was with him and his running club friends, I had heard the occasional person refer to him behind his back as "donkey dick" or "long dong silver", I must admit even I laughed at the second one, but it seemed rude to me, and I never thought anymore of it.
"Look! I just don't have time to reply to them all" he told me one evening over a bottle of wine, showing me all the matches he'd had on Tinder that week.
"Why do you bother swiping right in the first place then?" I quizzed him, slightly annoyed as I watched him scroll through his matches, knowing I hadn't got as many matches as that even in the last 6 months of trying.
Maybe there was something wrong with me, I never used to find it hard getting a date, but since my last relationship ended a year ago, nothing. I'm a little shorter than Mark, but I work out, and have a toned, muscular body, short blonde hair with bluey green eyes, I just have to seem to put in much more effort with women. "You're just in a dry spell, it will end" Mark reassured me as he put his phone down, avoiding my question.
"So next week" he continued, "I didn't mention it, but Adam asked to come along, and I figured the three of us would be more fun, is that ok?"
"I don't mind, but you know the apartment is only two rooms, I don't know if I saw a sofa bed on the listing" I asked. In truth I did mind, I hadn't met Adam but I'd heard through our friendship group that he was turning up to various social events and taking over, and I was hoping for a relaxed holiday just sitting by the pool, drinking cocktails and a few nice meals out at some restaurants I'd researched on TripAdvisor.
"Yes I'm sure there is, it won't be a problem I told him he would have to be on the sofa and you wouldn't mind, he already suggested a few places we could visit."
Great, just what I didn't want, someone who I didn't really know, now arranging the itinerary for what was supposed to be my relaxing holiday with a friend.
.............................................................................................................................................................
The week leading up the the holiday was pretty stressful for me, the "Majorca" WhatsApp group had been constantly buzzing with Adam's sharing of different bars and clubs we could visit. He even found somewhere that did a day long pool & foam party. Honestly my idea of holiday hell, loud music, drunk people and being constantly hungover.
I work in Cyber Security and work had been non-stop with a few late nights, so I hadn't even had time to respond between Adam suggesting booking tickets for a few of the events he'd found, and him booking them and telling us all how much we owed.
"I'm not sure this is what I had in mind when we originally booked this holiday" I messaged Mark separately when I finally got home just after 9pm and had read about all the money I now owed Adam.
"I know it's not, but think about how much more fun we'll have now not just sitting around all day and eating in those posh restaurants you found."
