I tossed my bag in the back seat of Jay's sedan and got in. He got in and pulled out and headed for the highway. I was quiet. I was thinking about what was happening. My wife was sending me off to a 9 day long nude retreat run by and for gay men and had signed me up for the Body Electric.
"Are you going to be quiet the whole trip?"
I looked at him. He was smiling.
"I'm just a little confused. Jane asked me to trust her and block off this week. I assumed we were doing something together."
"And now you're going off with some guy to something you aren't sure of."
"Exactly."
"So, I know we've never met, but I've known Jane forever. She and I used to be very close."
"How so?" I asked
"Not that way," he laughed.
"We knew each other in college and then worked together for a long time. She was my office wife. You know what that is, right?"
I nodded. I had had an office wife before. Not an affair, but a person who you could talk to about everything. Your safe place at work.
"Jane was my rock when I came out of the closet. I was there for her when she got divorced. We shared everything for decades. And she has talked a lot about you to me."
I looked at him. I didn't like the idea of her talking to people about me.
"Don't worry. It was all good. Jane was afraid to get involved again. She liked you a lot but still hadn't gotten over being burned by her first husband. I know she loves you and wants the best for you. I also know she struggles with how her change has affected you."
I didn't say anything. I was really uncomfortable. We drove in silence for a few miles and then Jay continued.
"I have to admit, I was skeptical of her idea at first. But, she is pretty smart about people. I think she was right about what to do."
"And what is that? I'm not really sure what her plan is?"
Jay just smiled.
"And let's just let things unfold, shall we?"
We drove in silence for a while. If I had my phone I would have listened to an audiobook or played a game or something. It's really tough to go cold turkey with no phone. We stopped for coffee and gas and chatted about the landscape and whatnot. I was too confused and nervous to ask anything else and Jay seemed content to let me wonder. We got off the highway and took some back roads and came to a gated entrance. Jay gave his name to the attendant, and we went up the drive and parked before a large barn. We got out and walked over to the barn to check in. There were a half dozen men working the stations. Everyone was dressed but some were just in shorts or the like. We gave our names, got our nametags, our cabin assignment and our stack of linens. There were a couple of guys with golf carts to take people to the cabins. We tossed our bags and linens in a cart and rode over to a cabin. The cabin was just what you would expect at summer camp. Big red building with one open room full of cots and open faced shelves. At the far end was a walled off bathroom with two of everything. There were cots for twelve.
"It's good to get here early," Jay said. "Give me a hand."
At the far end, you could turn two of the bunks sideways and push them together and make a double bed. We did that and then Jay showed me how to squeeze the mattresses together and make one bed.
"Why are we doing this?" I asked.
"So we can sleep together," he replied.
What the....I thought to myself.
Jane had told me to do what I was told, so I shut up and did it. We put our stuff on the shelves and then went for a walk. Jay took me all over the camp and pointed out the dining facility, the gym, the disco, the pools and everything. There were a few people walking around, all clothed.
"This is early arrival weekend," Jay said. "Most people don't arrive till Sunday afternoon. Right now, it is mainly people doing workshops or some people who just want a couple extra days. Most of the summer it is a regular summer camp. The rule is no nudity till five o'clock today. Then the rule is no clothes at all."
"About that," I said. "I'm not comfortable with the idea of being naked with my cage on. Or the collar. I want to take them off before the weekend really starts."
Jay just laughed.
"No."
I was about to argue when Jay saw someone and waved.
"Hey, Frank!"
A guy looked up and walked over to us. He gave Jay a hug.
"What's up Jay. I'm glad you're here."
He looked at me and then back at Jay.
"What about Mike? Is he here? Are you together still?"
