"Thanks," said Lola, as Mark carried the bags of groceries up the stairs. "Just leave them at the door," she added, as she fumbled with her keys with her arms full. "I'll take them inside."
"It's no trouble."
"My place is a mess."
"It can't be THAT bad. You've seen my place."
She unlocked the door, but didn't open it. "Yeah, but you're tidy, for a man, and I'm a complete slob."
He shrugged, and placed the bags on the floor. "Well, then, when you've packed all this away, how about coffee at my place?" When Lola didn't answer, he added, "I know you have a boyfriend --"
"He's not my boyfriend," Lola replied sharply.
"He's married?"
"Yes, but that's..." She hesitated. "Look, thanks for the lift to the shops and all, but... we really don't know each other."
"I'd like to."
