Chapter 5
Unfortunately, a week later, Leon's situation had still not changed. Although he was so determined to escape Svenja's clutches, he was still crawling in front of her for hours every day. In the meantime, the beautiful student hardly lifted a finger.
She delegated almost every activity to the young man at her mercy, who had to gratefully kiss her feet in return.
His pay, if you could even call it that, usually consisted of five to ten euros a day, depending on Svenja's mood, and was just enough for Leon's food and drink.
As Leon now spent many hours a day with Svenja, he had learned a lot about her by chance. Although she tried to ignore him most of the time he was around, she was a female with an innate and very pronounced need to communicate.
Svenja was the only child of the wealthy industrialist Johann Richter from southern Germany and the Swedish ex-model Rebekka Erickson. Svenja's father had met the much younger, nineteen-year-old reigning Miss Sweden at a charity event and donated 50,000 DM just for a dance with her.
Allegedly, he even added another 50,000 DM for just one kiss from the fair lady, but she didn't go for it.
In any case, this action must have made an impression, as the young beauty from Sweden said yes to the gentleman, who was twenty years her senior, just six weeks later. Although there was a lot of whispering about it at the time and Johann's parents did not approve of the flash wedding with the almost penniless young lady, the two had a very harmonious marriage until Johann suddenly and unexpectedly succumbed to a heart attack ten years ago.
As young Svenja was completely fixated on her father, who had spoiled and pampered his little princess since her birth, the loss hit her all the harder.
Although her mother went to great lengths and tried to distract young Svenja with the most exclusive toys and leisure activities, Svenja was never to be the same again.
After a short time, however, her relationship with her mother got better and better. As she now did everything she could to at least partially replace her idolized father, mother and daughter soon became very close.
To this day, Rebekka is not only Svenja's mother, but also her best friend. At least that's what Leon concluded from the extensive phone calls that his young employer made to her mother every day.
Shortly afterwards, he emptied his letterbox as he did every morning and, for the past week, Svenja's too. Actually, everything was as usual. Bills, reminders and a return of application documents, when his eyes fell on an unusual envelope from the local court.
After immediately opening the letter, Leon's breath caught in his throat. "Eviction order!"
Surely that couldn't be true? Sure, he had been months behind with the rent, but he had never dreamed of being evicted. What's more, the appointment was tomorrow. Stunned, Leon stared at this fateful letter for several minutes.
Slowly and painfully, he realized that he would be homeless from tomorrow and that he didn't have the slightest clue what would become of him.
The young man only had distant relatives with whom he hadn't kept in touch for years, and contact with former friends had been completely broken off for professional reasons.
He now thought desperately about his future. How would he ever find a job again without a place of residence?
