Valentine's Day, 2025
"Come on, Kaya! You're not fooling anyone. You might be all business-y and 'girl boss' now but we know you still love to party! Come out with us or we'll assume you're hiding a secret boyfriend around here." Louise teased. She hoped that her friend would take in her persuasion.
Kaya was wise to Louise's antics and part of her did want to give in. It just wasn't the same without Keema and it hadn't been for years. Kaya wanted so badly to be the woman she was before but she just... couldn't.
"You can all assume as much as you want, Lou. You know damn well that Aaron may have put me off men for life. I've got so work to catch up on so I'll pass. Sorry!" She took Louise's dishes to the dishwasher to put them away.
Louise sighed from her seat at the kitchen island. "I miss her too, Kaya."
She didn't want to talk about it. "Mena and Nikki probably want to go! Have they got tickets?"
Her friend could tell that she wasn't ready to talk about it so she went along with the change in topic. "I got them a couple already, girl! Since you want to be a homebody I'll leave you in peace."
"Alright babe, enjoy."
Louise left muttering to herself about 'being boring even though it's a Friday.'
The chatter of the tv faded into the background as Kaya filled her wine glass. It was a bit sad that she was spending valentine's alone. Sure, she could have called Aaron over but that was subpar fucking and hours of arrogance that she didn't really want to have to deal with at the moment.
She was getting bored of the same old, but that was her routine. Quiet, tame evenings alone. She finished the cup and went for another before snuggling back down into her sofas soft warmth. Just as her eyelids grew heavy, she stirred a little. She could have sworn she heard a noise coming from the utility room.
She rose on wobbly legs to investigate, sure that it was nothing. Her hand curled around the door handle before another wave of tiredness hit her. That sofa was practically calling her name!
She returned to her comfy pile, glad to be buzzed and warm again. Who doesn't love wine?
