The small truck came to a stop, and Sophie was escorted out it's doors in handcuffs. She reminisced briefly about everything which had brought her to her current predicament. Upon being apprehended by the authorities after a failed attempt at stealing a car, she had discovered, much to her surprise and dismay, that a rather detailed record of her activities had been kept. Whilst nothing on the list was worse than petty theft and vandalism, the sheer scale of the criminal acts linked to her (courtesy of her rather distinctive appearance) would have locked her in a penitentiary for an amount of time just a few years short of her current age. When she was proposed a much shorter stay (six years, potentially reduced to five with good behavior) in the care of a private company, she had jumped at the option with little thought.
Whilst the truck which had taken her to the facility was a regular police transport, she had noticed that the men who were currently leading her to the three storey building in front of her were not policemen, but rather civilians dressed in a black uniform with helmets covering her face. This detail worried her slightly, as she remembered that she had been given no detail as to what the alternative sentence entailed, just that it would have lasted a fraction of the alternative.
She was led into a well lit, nondescript corridor, then through a door, another similar corridor, and finally though a door which led to a room. The room was about four meters by four in size and about three meters in height. It contained on one side a couple of white drawers of different height and, somewhat unsettlingly, in the middle was what appeared to be a semi-reclined padded chair. She was led to said chair and the guard on her left opened the left side of her handcuffs and snapped it to the armrest. The guard on her right got slightly closer to her and said through the his helmet: "Stay here. Someone will be here to process you shortly. And..." he added in a slightly more threatening tone "don't get any strange ideas while you're alone or with the staff, we will be right behind the door". That said, the guards walked away and closed the door.
Sophie was left alone with her thoughts for a few minutes before she heard footsteps and finally the sound of an electronic lock opening coming from a door on the side of the room opposite to the one from the which the guard had exited. A woman wearing what appeared to be a doctor's uniform entered the room and grabbed a clipboard off the top of one of the drawers near the door.
"Sophie Smith. Repeat offender for mostly minor crimes. And from what I'm reading, emphasis on the "repeat". No wonder you chose the alternative sentence... enough chitchat, I'm going to take off your handcuffs and it is in your best interest to do as I say, do you understand?"
Sophie timidly answered "yes" and the woman took a key out of her coat and freed Sophie's right hand.
The woman continued "Now, please take off all of your clothes and any objects you might still have on your person and deposit them on that shelf" She complied, taking of her trousers and her shirt and sweater, and did her best to fold them up before placing them on the shelf the woman had pointed to.
"Underwear and bra too, miss. And no talking allowed", she added, seeing that Sophie was about to object. She resentfully took off the rest of her clothing and nervously came back to the woman
"Now, please sit on the chair and place your arms on the armrests" she did as she was told, and the woman restrained her arms to the chair with a couple of straps and did the same to her legs.
"Now, for the benefit of the staff, and for other reasons too, it's protocol to stop... "clients" from talking. Hence... this" the woman showed her what to Sophie looked like a child's pacifier with two straps at its side. She wasn't given much time to gaze upon the device, however, as the woman grabbed her chin, opened her mouth and inserted into it what was, indeed, the bulb of a pacifier. Then the woman went to the back of the seat and somehow fastened the straps behind her head.
