Ruby went to the restroom while Toby poured the drink over ice. It took Ruby so long Toby began to wonder why; he knew what he'd be doing if he was in there, but Ruby? Surely not. The conversation was awkward at first as they drank the lemonade, but they soon became engrossed in discussion about the neighborhood, their spouses, and the hot day.
"Well, as much as I'm enjoying our visit, I guess we should get back to it," said Toby. Ruby reluctantly agreed. She had learned more about Toby in these few minutes than in previous months. Jeremy didn't talk much about people he worked for, and Ruby didn't go to work with him much, either.
