"Here we are!"
The four girls stopped at the entrance to the fantastical amusement park in front of them. They had decided to take a day to themselves and go here together and have fun, just the four of them.
"Ooooooh, there's so many things to do, I want to do them all!!" Sam exclaimed as she shook with excitement. She was a part-time model, and due to juggling that and school, she didn't usually get a chance to go out and do stuff like this. She rushed up to the front, paid for her entrance, and bounded inside. The others laughed as they followed her. Mel brushed a strand of brown hair out of her face as she grabbed a map as they entered. The three girls found Sam standing there waiting eagerly.
"There's so much to do, but I'm not sure where to start!" Sam said with a huge smile on her face. She was almost bouncing on her feet, making her blonde curls bounce as well.
"You sound like a little kid, you know." Emma remarked, but Sam didn't seem to care. When Sam noticed Mel had a map, she crept over and looked over her shoulder, wanting to see all the options.
"Well, there's several things we can do." Mel said as they gathered around the map. She was always the one to take charge and plan things out. "There's the roller coasters, Ferris wheel, haunted house, dunk tank, and more." She looked up at the others. "What do you guys want to do?"
"Well, I want to go to the haunted house!" Sam said as she stepped back. "Who wants to come with me!" Sam eagerly waited for a volunteer, but no one spoke up. She looked around to see hesitant faces.
"Sorry, I don't really like haunted houses." Mel said.
"Me neither, I don't really like them." Jean said.
"I think they're dumb, to be honest." Emma chimed in. Sam's face fell.
"Well, it's no fun going by yourself, so someone is coming with me, even if I have to drag you!" Sam exclaimed. She looked around, ready to pounce. Jean leaned over to Mel and whispered something in her ear. Mel nodded, and after a moment, the two sprinted away. Emma turned to see them, which left an opening for Sam to wrap her arms around her small frame, trapping her. "Guess it's you!"
"Urgh, fine." Emma conceded, readjusting her glasses after Sam had messed them up. "But I'm not gonna like it, so don't expect anything."
"That's fine!" Sam said happily. Emma had to admit she felt like Sam's giddiness would help make up for the boring time she was gonna have.
Well, it seemed like it would be boring, but it would turn out to be anything but.
"Let's go!" Sam said, releasing her, but grabbing her arm and pulling her towards the direction of the house. Emma groaned but had no choice, so she walked along.
It didn't take long to reach it. As Emma expected, it looked like a stereotypical haunted manor. Cobwebs covered the dark outside, and the house appeared to be falling apart. Emma did have to give it credit though; it sure was big. But then that also meant it would take longer to get through.
"Welp, let's go!" Sam said as she pulled Emma along. The two stepped inside the manor, into the darkness.
Sam and Emma walked through the dark hallways lit only by artificial candles. Sam was smiling happily while Emma walked behind her.
"You know the point of a haunted house is to scare you right?" Emma said. "So I feel like you being so happy means it's not doing its job."
"I mean, yeah, but I'm just happy to be doing something like this with one of my friends." she said, and Emma paused for a second. She felt a slight blush cover her face as she smiled. "Besides, I haven't actually been scared by one of these for a long time." Sam continued. "I just like seeing how much work each of them gets, and even if I'm not scared of them anymore, they don't often have jumpscares that get you even when you aren't afraid." Emma did have to admit she had a point, and went silent with slight guilt.
"Sorry for being negative." Emma apologized, but Sam shook her head as she turned around to face her.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just happy you're here with me!" Sam said. "Just try to enjoy it, okay?"
"No promises." Emma said, but smiled. Sam smiled and nodded, before turning back around and continuing onward.
They walked for a minute or so without anything happening.
"You know, with it being so big, I would've expected more." Emma said.
"They're probably trying to give you a false sense of security." she said. They continued for a bit before suddenly, something shot down from the ceiling as a booming sound rang out. Sam jumped in surprise as a life-size skeleton was suddenly right in front of her. Once she had recovered, she laughed .
"At least it wasn't plastic." Sam said, and watched as the skeleton rose back up into the ceiling. However, the skeleton snagged onto her jacket, and forcefully pulled it off of Sam before she could stop it, taking it away into the ceiling. Sam and Emma stared in shock.
"Man, I liked that jacket..." Sam said as she pouted.
"Well that was unexpected." Emma said. "Maybe we should just keep going? We can see if someone can get it back for us when we're done."
