It had be a mundane fall morning. The sun stayed hidden behind clouds all day, a light breeze scattering the few leaves in the office parking lot, while a few little animals traveled along the tree line. It had be perfect weather to relax and enjoy some cider.
But Lissa wasn't. She had be stuck inside the office, waiting for a random delivery to come in. She didn't know why she had to be here, not like they couldn't just leave the box in the mail room. As her hazelnut eyes drifted to watch the clock tick away, she leaned back in the reception chair. While being a dental assistant had some nice perks, she hated when her boss made her work alone on a Friday.
She closed her eyes, undoing her pony tail to let her auburn brown hair flow free as she reclined, listening to the wind gently blow against the side of the building. After a deep sigh, she leaned forward and stood up. Lissa walked to the back room, desperate for some kind of entertainment besides social media. As she followed the wall around, looking at the pale blue and beige walls, she heard the front door chime.
She sighed in relief, hoping it was the delivery guy with the new dental picks. Her smile faded when she saw it wasn't the delivery but it came back as she watched the guest lean against the door frame, her boyfriend, Henry. Leave it to him to show up to give her some company. After a bit, he straightened up again, walking to her to wrap his arms around her. After a small hug, he kissed her forehead and let her lean back, her hazelnut eyes smiling back into his jade greens, couple inches above hers.
"To what do I owe the pleasure, my handsome devil?" she smirked lightly at him, happy to see him but generally curious.
"Oh, thought you'd like some company while you, sit alone in a dark office," he said back before hugging her again.
Lissa felt so lucky to have him in her life, she loved everything he did for you. And to her. He always know where her buttons were and only occasionally abused this knowledge. After a bit, they both went and sat down behind the reception desk, continuing to wait for the unknown delivery time.
"So," he started, "the doctor find any new hires to help cover the shifts?"
"No, unfortunately. The last girl she tried to hire flaked. And by flake, I mean got arrested"
"Oh, geez. Leave it to the doctor to hire the best."
