"You guys know there are bears outside, right?" Vince stood at the edge of the sand, a floppy hat on his head, incongruous with his black board shorts bearing a white imperial logo.
"No bears on the beach, Vince." Rune called from the back of the van, looking over their supplies. Unloading all this stuff was going to be a bitch. At least Cora's folks had been nice enough to let them borrow it.
Vince looked out over the water, considering. "Okay, sharks then. There are sharks outside."
Vanessa walked up alongside him and slung an arm around him. Today her short chopped hair was a light pink, a color Rune noticed was very close to Eve's. "We talked about this. Vitamin D is good for you. Besides, you're supposed to be excited about seeing your girlfriend in a bathing suit." Vanessa lifted her t-shirt to flash him her generous cleavage, held in check by a black triangle bikini.
Vince adopted a pensive face. "Okay. I can adapt."
"Vince." He turned at the sound of Rune's voice, and Rune placed a cooler in his arms. On top of that he stacked a couple of beach towels. "Adapt on the beach. Get going." He passed a few more things to Vanessa and they trotted off across the sand together.
Just then, two more cars pulled up. Cora's compact slid to a stop in the spot next to the van. She waved at him from behind the wheel, and he gave her a big grin. In the back he could see Ken and his girlfriend Cassidy grabbing their stuff. Alex was running shotgun.
Heather's cherry red mustang paused, hanging in front of the van's grill, and then swung around in an authoritative turn. She nailed her reverse park, killing the engine with a snap. She stepped out of the driver's side, a gauzy vision. A silky wrap surrounded her like an aura as her perfect elven form alighted the pavement.
Sydney jumped out of the backseat, a huge smile on her face. "The bitchmobile has arrived!" Madison and Amanda got out a lot more slowly, both of them a little wary on their feet. Rune smiled. Heather was, to put it mildly, an aggressive driver.
Everyone piled out of their cars, pulling out coolers and blankets. Rune directed people to the stores in the van, starting the unload process. Between grill fodder and stuff to set up base camp, there was a lot.
Cora bounced over to him, one of his large t-shirts wrapped around her body. Beneath it he could see the lines of her bikini. "Can you believe this weather?" Her grin was infectious as she put her hand on his bare chest, looking at him appreciatively. He had his shirt off, a simple pair of black and white board shorts on his legs.
It was warm. Unseasonably warm, for San Jose in March. In the low 80s. The sky was crystal blue, no clouds, and the warm winds just invited people to go outside. It had taken all of half an hour to get the crew organized and on the road, capitalizing on the best Saturday they'd seen in months.
She slipped her arms around him in a tight hug, pressing her breasts against his upper chest. He hugged her back, knowing that beneath the shirt was a skin-tight stars and stripes bikini. Cora was as fit as he was, and it was always a pleasure to touch her. He could feel her muscles beneath the shirt, sliding his hands down her back. Cora sighed and leaned down to kiss his neck.
"Blondes look so good in the sunlight." He murmured to her. "Very... edible." Cora shivered, and moved against him.
That was when Sydney flicked them both on the back of the head. They started, and turned to look at her. "You guys know I love PDAs. Very public. But we gotta load out! C'mon, I wanna work on my tan!"
They reluctantly stepped apart, grinning, and moved to help. Rune enlisted Ken to help him move the grill down the beach.

Out on the sand, base camp went up quickly. They'd brought two foldable shelters big enough to fit three beach towels each. Most of the girls went straight for the sun, dropping their towels in the sand outside. Rune moved around behind the camp, setting up the grill. Vince and Ken moved off a ways up the beach, assembling the volleyball net.
Alex ambled over to Rune, just being a friendly presence. Rune grinned at him, clanked a grate into place. He popped the top of a cooler, and pulled out a Corona. Tossed it to Alex with a flick of the wrist.
"We don't have much beer. So... take that as the thank you it's meant as." Rune pulled out a brush and started cleaning the grates.
Alex popped the top, a puzzled look on his face. "What are you thanking me for?"
Rune spoke more quietly, gestured in the direction of the group. "Vince, Vanessa. You didn't have to introduce them."
Alex took a pull from the bottle. "Oh." He turned and looked at the couple. "Yeah, well. I like Vince. And I liked Vanessa. And I thought they'd hit it off if... you know. Vince kept his mouth shut for five minutes."
Rune paused in his brushing. Raised his head to look at Alex. "How did you manage that?"
Alex sat down on the cooler, looking out over the group. "Mostly I told him to answer questions directly, in as few syllables as possible." He took another pull. "Plus he knows Hogwarts like he went there. She thinks it's hot."
They sat in companionable silence for a few more minutes while Rune finished setting up. Then Rune had Alex pop the top, grabbed a beer of his own, and joined him on the cooler.
Beneath the tarp Vince and Vanessa were deep in conversation. She was leaned way over, resting her head on his shoulder, and Rune could see that the lines of those shoulders were as relaxed as he'd ever seen them.
Ken and Cassidy were in the other shelter, also talking. Their conversation seemed to be less about literary issues and more about the size of Ken's muscles. And how nice they were to touch.
Out on the sand, where both Rune and Alex were looking, was a stunning display of femininity. Cora was wearing a stretch material stars and stripes bikini. She liked the colors, she'd said, and was looking forward to volleyball. She was on her back in the sun, her eyes closed in bliss. Her breasts stood out from her chest, nipples visible through the fabric.
Cora was flanked by Amanda on one side and Madison on the other. Madison's bikini was a red twist of fabric covering her chest. Simple chains linked the top to her straps. She was also on her back, one arm flung over her eyes.
Amanda was lying on her chest, her top undone, her body obscuring the black bikini with white trim. The symbol on her ass was visible though, a simple cross-style sigil. She'd modified an off-the rack outfit with some symbols from the Full Metal Alchemist anime. He'd heard her talking to the girls about it as far back as Christmas. She was getting really into making costumes and she was good... at... it.
Rune realized he'd totally lost his train of thought looking at her back and neck. Up the length of her spine to her red hair, glowing in the sunlight. And then he was looking into her eyes. She'd felt his eyes on her, and had lifted her head. He went to look away, and stopped. Her eyes... a brilliant green, that he could see even this far. They only rarely spoken, and deliberately hadn't touched, since the Halloween party the year before.
The look in her eyes was unreadable, but it was intense. The moment hung between them, stretching out into seconds. No one else seemed to notice, but the entire world fell away for Rune. His whole world was Amanda's eyes, and the intensity of her gaze. He slowly felt heat rising in his cheeks, a sensation increased by a pulse in his pants.
Finally it was too much, and he looked away. He glanced at Alex, who seemed not to have noticed a thing. He took a swig of beer, looked out at the ocean, and slowly worked his gaze back to the women. Off to the left of the three sunbathers, Heather and Sydney were lying on their stomachs with their tops off, their arms crossed in front of them. They were talking quietly, looking out at the water.
When he drew his gaze back to Amanda, she had her eyes closed and her cheek pressed into her towel. And she was smiling.
Rune shivered. Sat there, thinking. Stood up, and walked around the tent. He looked down on the three women, smiling. "Ladies, have you already taken care of your sunscreen?"
Cora cracked open an eye, squinting up at him. "You volunteering to help us out?"
"Oh, you know. I'm a helper." Rune laughed. He waved over Alex. "I happen to know this fine young man would be willing to help as well."
All three of them laughed. At the sound, Sydney called over "What about us? We're hot women that need sunscreen too!"
At the sound of her voice, Madison sat up. Tossing her hair, she gestured at her girlfriend. "Come do me?" Her emphasis made the question more of a demand than an innuendo.
Syd hopped up, one arm covering her chest, and she snatched her top off the ground. It was the work of a moment to get herself dressed again.
Rune turned to Alex. "I guess Madison's spoken for. Amanda, you want Alex to help you out?" He listened to his voice as he spoke, nice and even.
