"How much do you want to bet it's just a bunch of old, wrinkled people?" I overheard Jordan say.
"No, I'm sure some students around our age go there on occasion," was Reagan's reply.
"You might be right. Who know?"
I had no idea what my coworkers were talking about, and although I was curious I certainly wasn't about to ask. I'm naturally a shy, quiet type of guy, and being on my own for the first time in this college town didn't help.
Fortunately, my curiosity was about to be relieved anyway. "What in the world are you guys talking about?" asked Dani with a smirk and she walked in and leaned up against the wall next to them. I followed suit to better listen.
It was just before 10 at night, meaning the coffee shop where the four of us worked, meaning we would soon close. We were all students at the local university, but other than that we had very little in common. Reagan was a typical looking sorority girl; blonde, thin, and attractive in the convention sense. I hadn't talked with her much (or any of my other coworkers, for that matter), but from our brief conversations I knew she was a nursing major and definitely had a passion for the field.
Jordan was an engineering major with curly hair and glasses. He stood an inch or so taller than me but with a slighter build. We had bonded somewhat over our shared interest in old sci-fi movies, but I knew little of his personal life. I thought he was gay but wasn't sure.
Dani, on the other hand, came across as somewhat striking in comparison to the rather normal appearance of the other two. Her hair, which came to just below her jawline on one side and was shaved on the other, was dyed a deep indigo blue. She was barely over five feet in height and had a figure which some might call "chubby" but I thought of more as simply curvy. She was a photography major and struck me as somewhat of a tomboy; she never seemed to wear much, if any, makeup to work. She had a very bubbly, outgoing personality which was a stark contrast to my own, but it made her very interesting to talk with.
"We're talking about the local nudist resort." said Reagan, answering Dani's question.
"There's a nudist camp out here?" asked Dani with excited surprise. "That's awesome!"
Jordan chuckled. "You serious, Dani?"
"Yeah, why not? Sounds like fun! All free and liberating and stuff, you know?" She glanced at the three of us to see our reaction.
"I dunno," I said, hesitantly voicing my opinion. "Sounds kinda weird."
"Me and Jordan were debating what kind of people go there." Said Reagan. She then chuckled, "you should check it out and give us a report, Dani."
"What?! Why me!?" responded Dani with a shocked look of amusement. This type of conversation was certainly nothing I was used to with my conservative upbringing, but I couldn't help but find it fascinating and somewhat invigorating.
"Cause you're, you know, the free spirit of the group," Reagan answered. Jordan laughed.
"No way am I going as a single female! What if there are weirdos or creepers there? If you're so curious, you should go and take your boyfriend."
"I don't want Chad seeing other girls naked!" From our conversations before, I was under the impression that Reagan's boyfriend Chad was somewhat lacking in wthe trustworthiness department. Reagan continued, "I'm sure you can find some poor, lonely guy who's willing to go be naked with you."
Jordan shrugged, "Don't look at me."
Dani rolled her eyes. "You guys are crazy", she quipped before walking off to finish closing up for the night.

I finished wiping down the last of the tables as Dani closed out the cash drawer. Reagan and Jordan had left just a short time earlier, leaving the two of us alone. All the while, Dani chatted about the latest local art show and her friends from back home. I didn't have much of a response to most of what she said, not because I wasn't interested but simply because I wasn't sure what to say. Fortunately, she didn't seem to mind. I also appreciated this interaction as it provided me a way to feel social without actually having to make any effort.
