On the day of the trial, Alex entered the courtroom looking every bit the part of a handsome All-American west Texas young man, but he knew he was in trouble. The judge hearing the case was too familiar with the toll underaged drinking had played on the community and the extensive efforts the school and community had taken to remedy that problem. Because of Alex's popularity, the judge also knew the courtroom was filled with the defendant's friends, fraternity brothers, and fellow students from the university. After hearing the evidence presented by the arresting officer, and with Alex having no rational defense, the judge found Alex guilty as charged! However, rather than sentence Alex to probation or send him off to jail, the judge knew something different had to occur, especially if the authorities were going to make a significant statement that would decrease underage drinking and DUI offenses.
The judge sentenced Alex to two hours!-- two hours of court-ordered public nakedness strapped to a table with his legs positioned in stirrups (like those used by women during a pelvic exam). Alex would be placed in this position buck naked at the entrance to the university coliseum during the big, over 18 only Octoberfest celebration.
