This takes place twenty years after the main series. All characters are over the age of eighteen whenever they were depicted in a sexual manner.
Nathan Buchanan was experiencing the first perks of being a star athlete. As a just turned eighteen-year-old senior he had finally hit a major growth spurt he had grown several inches to over six feet tall. His metabolism had finally adjusted to his weight lifting routine and he was a solid one hundred and eighty pounds of lean muscle. He was put together like a swimmer but was now a top-level wrestler. He was expected to win a state championship in multiple weight classes.
Prior to his growth spurt, Nat had been relentlessly bullied. He was undersized and as awkward as his father had been at that age. Unlike his father who had developed early and had been trained as a fighter, Nat was tormented constantly. His name Nat had gone from Gnat to Bed Bug.
It hadn't helped that his older half-sister Alexis had blossomed early into a beautiful young woman. The bullies had gone out of their way to taunt him with their fantasies of tagging his sister. Even his cousins on the other side of his family went out of their way to talk about their desires to have sex with his sister.
It was especially troubling that his other side of the family had a history of white supremacy. His mother's side of the family was not happy that his mother had gotten knocked up by a Mexican. Nat's grandfather had wanted to claim that Nat was the product of rape at the hands of an illegal alien to help his run for attorney general. Nat's father refused to go along with the ruse and the election was closer than it needed to be before Nat's grandfather won the position. In retaliation for Nat's father not cooperating, Nat's grandfather had insisted on Nat being named Nathan Bedford after the Confederate General and KKK founder. Nat's father was able to ignore the gesture but it was a sore spot among Nat's black step mother's family.
Now that Nat was a super buff athlete he was able to date one of the cheerleaders from his school. Maria Torez had transferred to Nat's school the previous year and had become best friends with one of the girls on the flag team Emma Wallace. Emma had slept with Alexis' boyfriend Tad and caused Alexis and Tad to break up. This was after Alexis had purposely failed her senior English class so she had to repeat the twelfth grade with Tad who was a year younger than her.
Because of Maria's connection to Emma, Alexis didn't like her half brother's girlfriend. She was highly upset when Nat started dating the flag twirler. Alexis was even more upset when Tad started dating Emma. Tad did his best to rub his relationship with Emma in Alexis' face. Having to repeat the twelfth-grade cost Alexis her chance to attend the college of her choice. Instead, she would be attending community college the following year. A fact she was reminded of every time she watched Tad and Emma walk around school holding hands.
Alexis did take the opportunity to take up cheerleading for an extra year even though it meant riding to games with the football team and flag team. An obvious split between Alexis' crew of cheerleaders and Emma's crew of flag twirlers developed. The tensions on the bus to and from the games slowly started to have an effect on how the football team was playing.
Because they were in a weak district the team was almost guaranteed to make the playoffs. The problem was that every time they played one of the stronger teams from outside the district they got run over. After getting shut out for the second time in three non-district games, the coaches decided to step in.
Coach Ronnie and his assistant Coach Jay already knew the problem. Because of the amount of time the cheerleaders and flag team spent with the football players during games and sharing facilities during practice it was only natural for the players to gravitate towards dating the girls on the squads. The bad blood between the cliques of girls was spilling over as the football players took sides.
Ordinarily, the coaches wouldn't have been as tuned in to the drama of the high school dating world but they had been well aware of Alexis. They had gone to school with Alexis' parents and very much remembered her mom and dad. They had taken an extra interest in her as she advanced through high school. They did there best to pretend otherwise but they both frequently found themselves comparing mother and daughter.
Coach Ronnie and Coach Jay pulled Tad into the office one day after a lackluster practice. The shades looking out over the lockerroom were drawn. Coach Ronnie took a seat behind his desk to the right of the other assistant coaches shared. Tad heard Coach Jay lock the bolt on the door behind him as he took a seat across from Coach Ronnie's desk.
"What's this about?" Tad asked nervously as the wide line coach approached him from behind.
"You have a practice like that, and wonder why you get pulled into the office?" Coach Jay asked as he set his meaty hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I wasn't the only one. The whole team had a horrible practice." Tad said in his defense.
"That's exactly the problem. The whole team is playing like crap. How is it the offensive line can completely miss half their assignments but you guys blitzing fail to pressure the quarterback play after play?" Coach Jay asked angrily.
"We just can't get it together." Tad responded.
"See you know what the problem is. You aren't together." Coach Ronnie said.
Tad looked confused. He sat in silence as he waited for his coach to continue.
"It's obvious that there is major friction between the members of the team." Coach Ronnie said leaning back in his chair.
"It's so obvious, that while we as adults and coaches usually don't keep up with high school drama, we all know the teenage silliness that is causing the rift on the team." Coach Jay said squeezing his shoulder.
"Your little high school romance has poisoned the team." Coach Ronnie continued.
Tad was shocked that the coaches knew about what was actually going on.
"It wasn't that long ago that we were in high school, meeting up with the pep squad after practice, riding the bus to games with the cheerleaders, whatever. I get it. You end up dating the girls you are around you." Coach Ronnie said.
"I actually racked up a healthy body count going after the band geek girls back in the day." Coach Jay joked.
"The rift between the girls you players are dating is keeping you from playing like a unit." Coach Ronnie explained.
"Yeah, when you have to decide with siding with your chick and siding with your bro you guys are siding with the girls." Coach Jay said.
"Back in the day, it used to be bros before Hoes. But you kids are whipped." Coach Ronnie said.
"If it's not just me but the whole team, why single me out to fix it? I'm not team captain. I'm not even captain of the defense." Tad asked.
"For a couple of reasons. First, you caused the rift in the first place. Or your ex and your current girl are at the heart of it." Coach Ronnie said.
Tad was surprised that the coaches really did know what was going on behind the scenes. He didn't understand that the coaches had taken a special interest in Alexis Duran for reasons that went back decades. On some level, Tad did understand that attracted a little more attention from adults because of her large chest. He usually wrote off the grown men that used to stare at her when she was dressed up on dates as old perves. He didn't understand that almost every heterosexual man noticed Alexis' breasts.
"The second reason we bring this to you is because you are in the perfect position to fix this." Coach Ronnie said.
"How?" Tad asked.
"I'm glad you asked. Back when we were in high school we had a thing that brought the whole school together." Coach Ronnie said.
"Actually Ron, it was two things." Coach Jay corrected.
"Yeah, it was two things wasn't it?" Coach Ronnie said chuckling.
"Two big things." Coach Jay added.
"Two big black things." Coach Ronnie said.
"Two big black things that looked so delicious it just made you want to..." Coach Jay said getting lost in the past.
"My point is..." Coach Ronnie said cutting off his colleague.
Tad sat looking confused by the odd tone his coaches were using.
