It was a beautiful crisp morning, and I drove to Mrs. Greyson's with the window down, the wind feeling cool on my face. I thought about my mom, having mixed feelings about what had happened between us earlier this morning. I knew that things between her and dad hadn't been going too well lately, occasionally having heard arguments about the many hours that he'd been putting in at work.
She obviously had needs, sexually, but did I have the right to take advantage of the situation when she was so vulnerable? I knew that whatever, if anything, happened between us, our relationship as mother and son would never be the same. A feeling of guilt crept over me.
My heart wasn't into my job today, but I managed to get through the day's chores of spreading mulch in some of the flower beds, and pulling some occasional weeds around the patio by the pool. I saw no activity around the house, so I assumed that Mrs. Greyson was gone for the afternoon. I was relieved, since the earlier occurrence at home was still weighing heavily on my mind.
Arriving at home, I didn't know what to expect. Would mom be mad, embarrassed, crying? I noticed that dad was home early, and entering the kitchen, things seemed to be as usual, dad was reading the paper, and mom was busy preparing dinner. She pecked me on the cheek, asking how my day was, and we talked about various things that she would like to do to her flower beds while she kept busy with her preparations. Dinner was uneventful, the meal was great, and after dad retreated into the living room, I stayed back to help with the dishes.
Whispering to me, mom said, "we need to talk in the morning after your father leaves to play golf." Nodding, I continued to dry the silverware, putting everything in it's place, and retired to my room for the night.
Dad always plays golf on Saturdays, so today he was up early and gone when I awoke. I was greeted in the kitchen by mom, seeming very cheerful. She asked if I'd like some breakfast, but I opted for a glass of juice, so she poured a juice for me and coffee for her and sat down across from me.
