And there I was...off on yet another routine flight. I had just run over to board the plane, as I had a connecting flight and just barely had time to make it onto the final leg of my trip before they shut the cabin.
As I hustled onto the plane, I was exhausted and just in a rush to be seated already. I knew for sure that I was going to close my eyes and enjoy a few uninterrupted hours of sleep. Once I finally made it to my seat, I realized that I was in the window seat, and I had to pass a younger guy in the aisle seat and a middle-aged woman wearing bright scrubs, who appeared to be with the guy. As I made eye contact with the mother and son, I gestured to the window seat and asked if I could slide by. The lady offered me a generous yet routine smile and allowed me to walk by quickly.
Now, for context, I'm a younger guy, relatively slender and about 6'4. When I travel, comfort is my main focus, as I usually like to try to rest if my flight is longer than a couple of hours. This particular day, I had on a pretty normal out, a sweater, a baseball cap, and some athletic black track pants. Oh, and one other thing to mention, if I wear sweatpants when I'm traveling, sometimes I will go commando, as I find it to be a much more comfortable experience.
So, back to the flight. For maybe the first hour, everything is going smoothly. My neighbors are paying attention to the movies that they're watching and I'm listening to some tunes to let the time pass. The cabin is relatively dark, as I elect to keep the window cover down out of respect for the people around me. After a while, my phone dies and I've realized that I'm not falling asleep anytime soon, so I'm screwed...or at least I thought.
