It had been a long day. Hell, who was he kidding, it'd been a long week. He had been working so much it had started to cause friction between he and his girlfriend. The arguments had been coming more frequently these days and he wished there was some way to just make it all go away. He had a great job but it kept him so damn busy all the time and away from home so much, he half expected her to accuse him of having someone else on the side.
He sighed and brought a hand up to rub his eyes as the truck's headlights finally flashed to the turn off for their house. Living on the edge of town was a bonus for the most part. There were neighbors but they tended to be widespread and everyone had a great deal of privacy.
This last job had just about worn him out completely and he ached from working construction all day. He hoped that perhaps the fighting would be kept to a minimum tonight and he could just drop off to sleep quickly after a shower.
Parking his truck in front of their house, he turned the key and let the engine die before hitting the switch killing the headlights. The house was quiet and no lights were on which seemed odd to him. He glanced over and saw the blazer his girlfriend drove was still here, but also noticed the strange car parked next to it as well. Suddenly he felt cold even though the night was actually a warm one for late spring. Rationally he knew he could be jumping to conclusions but the longer he sat there, the colder he got and the more anger started to well up inside. Looking down at his watch he found it was a little after 8. This was his normal arrival time but lately he had the habit of getting home later. He shook his head as a stab of pain eased its way past his growing anger.
Reluctantly he gathered up his things, grabbed his lunch cooler and took a breath before exiting the truck, walking up the stone pathway to the quiet house, trying to prepare himself for anything he found within.
Opening the door he stopped short.
His mind had expected a great deal of things and he'd been prepared to deal with each scenario that he'd come up with but this just stopped him dead in his tracks. Out of the corner of his eye he saw one of the cats spying the open door with interest so he stepped inside and closed the door behind him before looking around. The curtains had been drawn and a few candles had been lit, casting a soft glow, allowing enough light to see the person standing before him.
She was dressed in sweeping wraps of black fabric with her face hidden by a veil, giving him the distinct feeling of having passed over the threshold of some odd harem movie. The figure bowed low before reaching out and taking the items from his arms, encountering little resistance from the shell-shocked man and placed them aside on a end table.
"Mistress bids you welcome home Master and conveys her wish that you had a pleasant day," The woman told him before sliding her arm through his and leading him further into the house towards the bedroom.
"Um, sure," was about all he could manage as he let himself be led when something clicked into place, "Maggie? Is that you?"
Even now his mind thought back to the strange car parked next to Lizzie's. He'd heard the two talking about her getting a new one and he must have missed the temporary sticker in the window. He shook his head feeling a bit foolish as his earlier thoughts came back to haunt him.
"Shush! You'll ruin it," Maggie chided him and stifled a laugh as she led him to her best friend's bedroom and paused at the door, ushering him inside. "Mistress wishes you to bathe and then dress," she gestured to the long white tunic looking item laid out upon the bed and the open door to the bathroom where more candle light flickered. "When Master finishes, he is to seek out Mistress in the back. She is awaiting him," Maggie finished before bowing low once again and disappearing back out the way she'd brought him in. Faintly he heard the front door open and close and a car start up and drive off.
To say he was confused was most likely an understatement. He shook his head, Lizzie never ceased to amaze him and he began to undress, tossing his dusty clothes in the general vicinity of the hamper before stepping into the shower. Afterwards, he toweled off and pulled the kamis on over his head. It fell to about his calves and he'd never admit that it was actually comfortable even if he did feel he was wearing something like a nightgown. As he walked through the house, he blew out the candles and marveled at the thought that must have gone into this. He knew Lizzie belly danced and liked Middle Eastern decorations; he himself was more of a Celt buff so their house was decorated in a strange mix of both but it seemed to work, just like them.
He stepped out the back door and looked around. He truly was amazed. He wondered how long it had taken Lizzie and Maggie to decorate and set this up. How long had she been planning this? Their large tent was transformed into a tent that looked like it belonged in a desert somewhere with camels. A canopy had been set up before it with a carpet laid out with pillows piled in a corner. He saw a tray of food sitting there and light from a few tiki torches flickered just enough to show the inside which also had been treated the same way, carpets and fabric served to mask it as a plain nylon tent and turn it into something more exotic.
He just had to laugh to himself as he walked down the steps and over to the tent. He could hear soft tribal music playing from somewhere and could even smell incense burning. In the back of his mind he started to think that if this is what he gets for not being home as often as he should, he needed to stay out a lot more. There was a small note sitting near the pillows and food that simply said, "Sit here" in sprawling script. Who was he to argue? He settled himself down and poured himself a glass of wine from the pitcher on the tray and pulled off a few grapes lounging and waiting to see what would happen next.
He heard her before her saw her. The bells chimed softly in the darkness before the music got a little louder and a slow drumbeat started to roll out into the night. She came out from around the tent with slow hypnotic movements, hips dipping in time with the drum beats. Her skirts flowed softly around her legs and the coins and bells glittered in the torchlight. He looked her over and could help but smile, he was a lucky man. Her hair was hidden under a turban that glittered with all sorts of jewelry and bells and a veil looped around to hide most of her face save for her black outlined eyes that watched him in a way that made a shiver run rampant over his body. Below the veil she wore some sort of long sleeved top that had ties only across the back of her shoulders and mid back, leaving a lot of bare skin open to his gaze. Over that top she had on a bra that was covered in coins and bells, tassels hung from her belt and every time she moved, they swayed with her, drawing his eyes to her hips.
She danced for him, her movements slow and seductive keeping in time with the beats of the drum. She came close to him but never enough where he could reach out and touch her, his fingers only brushing the silky skirts she wore as she spun away from him, teasing. The food forgotten he watched her and shifted a little in his seat against the pillows. He wanted to stand, grab her, kiss her and run his hands over her but knew it wasn't part of the game. A thought came to him just then and he smirked a little before hiding it away and reaching up, clapping his hands twice. She stopped and regarded him for a moment in curiosity. Reaching out he tapped the carpet before him before leaning back against the pillows, watching to see what she did.
Her grin hidden by her veil she knew he was catching on and slowly made her way over to him, she gave her hips a little extra sway before gracefully lowering herself to her knees in the spot he had tapped on the carpet, hands clasped in her lap waiting patiently to see what was running through his mind.
"You displease me," he simply said before eating another grape nonchalantly. He was warming to this game.
She arched a slender brow but decided to play along, wondering what he was up to.
"How so?" She asked him.
"You hide your face from me, that displeases me," he said while reaching forward and tugging on the veil, causing it to come un-tucked and fall to the side.
She tried to keep her face neutral but couldn't help the pull of a smile at the corner of her lips.
"Anything else that displeases you?" she quietly asked, her dark eyes trained on his.
