Well at the ripe old age of 42. I still feel and look 32. My oldest daughter left home 2 years ago at the age of 20 and my youngest boy just moved across the country to work as a mechanic on the mines at Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
As a Mobile Plant Mechanic, to say I'm proud as punch would be an understatement. He will learn more skills over there than I have ever known. I used my skills and contacts to start a heavy haulage company with a fleet of 8 trucks and 14 trailers. My trucks are not new. Old classic trucks with big motors and flashy paint jobs. My drivers are as proud of the trucks as I am. So they are all well kept and always clean. A presentable truck equates to income.
But that leaves the ex and I alone, which I guess, looking back 6 months ago that's why she is an Ex.
Yes it still hurts, but if it's done..... well I guess it's done. I sold one of my trucks and bought my self a house in a Rural coastal town near the edge of a large lake. A very modest property compared to what I left her, but that was part of the agreement. She gets the house and I get the company.
Now I've moved in, the simpleness growing on me. But spend my time learning how to do work on houses. New floors...... I did a new kitchen almost solely. Calling a plumber to move some pipes so I can put a sink in the Island bench.
While my house looked like a construction site at the moment, m living in my Caravan in the shed.
With the club just down the road a bit of socialisation is only a walk away. That's where I saw her again. Clearly looking different but still the same as she was 18.
I didn't know what to do once I saw her. But with a bit of liquid courage and a friendly smile, I felt the flame relit. The smile on her face said the same too but she was always very friendly.
I now live 300km from where she lived last time I spoke to her, turns out she randomly picked this place just to get away........ life was getting to much for her sometimes in the big city.
After a few drinks, she wanted to show me her water front Air B&B. It was nice. It gave me some ideas for my own place. But after a long day and a few more drinks, we swapped phone number and wished her good night before heading on my way to my place 1 street over. I knew it was her place after walking her home.
I stepped in my house, slouching back in the camp chair I have been using, with a bottle of whiskey staring out the window, mind racing I noticed I could see her place from mine. The light was on but dimmed. I noticed I could still see very well as she slipped the strap from her shoulder of her dress. Now my heart was racing to match my mind. Then the other strap, as her dress fell to the floor so did the bottle from my hand, I bent down to pick it up, when I returned to the window....... Nothing but darkness.
I exhaled audibly, in frustration then rocked back in my seat. Mind racing over what I just saw, well almost just saw.
In the corner of my eye, in a flash I saw some light coming in her direction. A bed side lamp, it must have been. Creating a silhouette of her. Dark figure showing her curves as she bent down to pick up her nightie.
As she leaned over, she hung down. The moving shadow hiding the light behind her and creating a new aspect for me to crave and fantasise about in the future.
She draped her nightie down the curves of her body leaned forward and then flash..... darkness. It was over. As she turned off the light.
I drifted off to sleep after placing the near empty bottle on the ground. Too tired to head off to bed in the caravan.
The next morning, feeling a bit worse for wear. I headed down to the lake for a quick dip, then sit back waiting for a fish to jump on the line. I'd like to say it's my weekly ritual for a week end morning but more often than not I'm headed down to the hardware to do more work on my house.
The suburb I live in really only has a dozen streets, but the twin suburb over is a fair bit larger. But I told her i live walking distance, so it really wouldn't be hard for a smart girl like that to work out where I live. I thought as I drifted off in the sun waiting for the fish to bite.
Next thing I knew my feet were being kicked and I was awake.
My eyes quickly adjusting to the sunlight.
With a laugh she streaks " oh no! You don't get to keep me up all night and come down here to fall asleep!"
"All night?" I questioned "I dropped you at your place at 11!"
With another laugh and a wink "oh but you didn't actually leave." She then tapped her head with her finger, indicating I had been on her mind.
"Well that explains the lighting"
With a gasp! She slapped my shoulder. " were you spying on me mister!"
That's when I explained I can see the house she is staying at from my place.
She excused her self as all polite professionals would and she headed off to work, the whole reason why she was there in the 1st place. I don't know how there medical people do it. A beautiful warm summers Saturday like this and they head off to work.
She said it's only a short day and she would be back at the club for dinner.
Maybe you should join!" She teased. Flipping back her long Auburn hair behind her shoulder, as she walked away.
" I'll be there around 7" she exclaimed spinning back around biting her lip to hide her smile.
It was around lunch I head home to do a bit more work on my house, before long I noticed the shadows were getting longer. "Wow where did the day go!" I exclaimed to myself. 5.45 in the afternoon already!
Carrying a box of tiles past the kitchen window I noticed her light was on. On my way back for another box destined for the bathroom. I stopped. Out of curiosity more than anything. I saw her. Pacing back and forth and swinging around in front of the mirror in the master bedroom.
She disappeared for a minute or so then returned in another dress. This one..... a small little black one lightly swinging around her. The black dress setting off her long hair. I yearned to be a fly on the wall. I deep swallow and pulled myself away and back to work.
On the next trip I had another sneak peak. But didn't allow myself to spend too much time there.
My alarm went off. 6.15, it was time for me to clean up and head down there.
Arriving at the club again, I felt like I did when I 1st met her, we were both very young. We met in the park by the river. Nerves running wild. I guess that is because I had seen her last night and now I know she looks just as she did. A little older but certainly not the age we are.
It's a warm night, following a warm day. She caught my eye as she stepped through those doors. Stepping in wearing a white cotton dress. Light and flowing, blue flowers randomly placed with grey stems almost presenting as lightning bolts.
The dress pulled tight and took my gaze down to her ample chest. Buttons, stretched. clinging to life with all they can. Then relaxing down to her sides and waist. Loosely flipping around half her thighs. Her long legs guided her over towards my table. Sitting in the chair I had just pulled out for her on my way to get her a drink.
The sun setting, we relaxed back in the orange colours as the surfaces of the lake rascally dances with a relaxed calmness.
I watch the excitement i her face as she tells me about her son's achievements and where she is in life.
Her face turned straight when I asked of her husband. Then held up her hand. No ring.
I laughed "I thought you were looking great.... You lost 100kg".
With a giggle "120" she stated.
I went up to order and returned with drinks. Surprised on return she did not have her phone on her hand like all the other ladies I've met lately did by this point. In fact while waiting at the bar, I noticed she didn't take it out at all. Just admiring the sun set over the lake. It's still very pretty even though we are on the western side. The array of tans and oranges bouncing off, well everything changing its colour tone.
As the sun went down, our chatter raised with the humidity. It was that time of year where the days are still quite long and hot. But getting shorter. In fact it's her birthday at the and she thinks I don't remember.
The staff came out and notified us that the bistro was closing and we had to move on.
After another drink down stairs we proceeded to leave the club. She wondered around with me back to my place, but the long way via the lakes water front.
A clear sky, the warmly chilling air resonating off the lake's surface. I tried not to let her see how much I was enjoying her poking through her dress. Lit up by the moon light surrounding us.
We proceeded to walk back to my place because I was telling her about my plans, but I think she was just more interested in seeing where I live now.
Inviting her in, I help her around the construction site.
