"Hello, hello! Yes, this is Ms. Barlowe. How can I help you?" Said Jamie as she drove in her van.
"Oh, thank god!" Exclaimed a woman. "An elevator in our hotel has been running into some issues. We need it fixed asap so guests aren't inconvenienced."
Jamie peered over at the time clock in her van and saw it was already 10:12pm.
"My shift was suppose to end over an hour ago. I'll make sure to come first thing tomorrow morning."
"That's no good! Morning time is peek foot traffic hours for our guests. We need it fixed tonight. We'll even comp you a room along with a meal from our onsite restaurant."
Jamie was already fatigued from a ten hour shift, but a clean room to herself sounded nice.
"You do understand this is after hours work? That means my rates are doubled. Are you okay with this?"
"Absolutely! The owner of the property have given me permission to do whatever it takes to make certain our guests are not inconvenienced."
"Alright. I'll be there in twenty minutes. Who should I meet with when I arrive."
"That would be me, Susan. I'll wait for you in the main lobby area. Thank you so much for doing this!"
"No problem, see you soon Susan."
This was not an uncommon occurrence for Jamie. Various hotels and resorts would call her late or on holidays to fix their elevators. The extra pay was always nice and they often added in extra perks for helping them out. It was Friday night, so she could probably hang out at the pool or jacuzzi the next morning before she checked out. After parking her van in the parking lot, she grabbed her tools and made her way to the front entrance.
"You must be Ms. Barlowe! I'm Susan -- we spoke on the phone."
"Hello, Susan. So, where's this troublesome elevator located?"
"Ah, yes. I'll guide you there myself."
While the two walked down the hallway, Susan reached back to hand something to Jamie.
"This is your room key for your stay. I actually convinced the owner to book you for the entire weekend as a 'thank you.' Hopefully, you're not working and you can enjoy your stay."
"Oh, wow. Thank you. I do have the weekend off, so this is much appreciated."
"We have a great collection of restaurants within walking distance, so you're in for a real treat. I've got all sorts of discount cards available, so just let me know and I'll hook you up."
"You're amazing, Susan. I'm so glad I took on this job."
"We are, too!"
Susan opened up a door that led to an outdoor patio. Turns out the hotel was a collection of connected buildings that had various outdoor spaces.
"So this is our main outdoor pool area. We're a five-star hotel, so you'll notice it's quite extravagant compared to your normal hotel."
Jamie normally worked at tourist hotels or office buildings, so this was extremely impressive. She ventured to guess that her comped dinner would be an exquisite experience. The people were dressed in a way that exuded affluence, even Susan's work attire was quite impressive. She wore a black Veronica Beard jacket with gold buttons, along with a Mazzy Cashmere turtleneck underneath. The ensemble was complete with leather skinny-flare pants and suede mid-heel black bootie's. Frankly speaking, she looked stunning.
"I must say. Everyone around here looks so opulent, I feel a tad out of place."
"Oh girl, don't worry about it. Speaking of which, I assume you don't have a change of clothes for the weekend."
Jamie had completely forgot about this fact. She was totally unprepared given that she was still on the clock.
"Yea. Guess I'll have to buy some stuff from the gift shop."
"Oh, don't worry about that. I've put in numerous late nights here, so I always have a duffle bag in my locker with spare clothes. I'll let you borrow them for your stay."
"Wow! Thanks Susan. That's fantastic."
"No problem girl. By the way, the elevator is just up ahead."
The two approached the faulty elevator which was at the end of the hallway.
"Here we are, my dear."
Jamie opened the doors to reveal the cabin of the elevator. She immediately recognized that the cabin was three feet higher than it should be.
"The elevator is mis-leveled, I'll have to take a look on top to see what's going on. But my guess is that the magnet switch box needs to be replaced. Could you lead me to the second floor?"
"Absolutely."
The two women took a nearby staircase to the second floor. Jamie opened the doors to reveal the top of the cabin.
"Has the power been shut off?"
"Yes. We had our janitor take care of that an hour ago."
Jamie then attached an electric motor to the pulley system to bring the elevator up ever so slightly. Shen hopped onto the top of the cabin to make her inspection. After scanning the area, she located the magnet switch box. She used her screwdriver to pop it open to take a gander inside. She tapped the inside of the box with a screwdriver, realizing that the magnet was nonfunctional.
"Looks like I found your culprit. It's a simple fix, I just need to replace the magnet switch box."
"Excellent! How long will it take?"
"I happen to have a spare one in my van, I'll probably have her up and running inside of an hour."
"Great! I'm working overtime myself and the owner wants me to stay until the elevator is operational again."
"Okay. We'll I'm going to head to my van to get the box. I'll be back soon."
"I actually want to be with you every step of the way. So we'll go to your van together."
Jamie thought this was a bit strange. Usually general managers had no interest in her work. They typically stationed themselves elsewhere until the job was done. That being said, she wasn't adverse to having Susan tag along.
"Let's head to my van, then."
While they traversed through the hotel, Susan asked all sorts of questions regarding Jamie's line of work. She seemed truly surprised that a young, beautiful female was working as an elevator technician. This was fairly common, though, even Jamie's parents were surprised when she chose this career path. But that was fine, she enjoyed marching to the beat of her own drum, as it were. The two reached the van as Jamie made her way inside to grab the new part.
"Here we go." Announced Jamie as she leaped out. "Let's get this done so you can head home."
"It's a little after eleven, I should probably guide you to your room first. Nothing worse than stumbling around after midnight looking for your room."
"Um, I suppose that's fine."
Jamie stuffed the magnet box into her work bag as she followed Susan back into the hotel. Susan took her to the reception area as she motioned her to walk into the employee area. She then walked up to a locker to grab a black duffle bag.
"These are the clothes you can wear for the weekend, we'll drop them off in your room right now."
Now the hotel was comprised of four different buildings, and Jamie's room was at the far left end. Oddly enough, the building with the faulty elevator was in the far right building. Each building had four floors with its own indoor and outdoor pools. Susan guided her to the fourth floor, room 426. She used her master key to open the lock as Jamie was awestruck by how lavish the room was.
"This is incredible."
"There's two queen beds in this room with another king bed in the other room. You also have a full kitchen with an espresso maker to boot. It's really an incredible space."
"I feel sort of guilty, there's no way I would splurge this kind of money on a hotel."
"Girl, you need to treat yourself. I'm hoping your man does at least."
"Oh, I don't have a boyfriend right now."
"All the more reason. Your only going to be young once, so you might as well smell the roses."
"Surely I can't thank you enough, but I really ought to get to that elevator."
"Before you do, why don't you change. I can only imagine how grimy those work clothes are."
"But, I don't want to get your clothes dirty."
"You worry too much, that's what washing machines are for. Oh! Try on the white crop top with the baggy jeans. It'll match your look so well."
"Crop top?" Thought Jamie. That's the kind of stuff you'd wear to the club, not while working in an elevator shaft. Nevertheless, it was a harmless request and Jamie just wanted to get the job done so she could get that yummy food. She grabbed the bag and motioned to the bathroom before Susan interrupted.
"What are you doing?! We're both women, just get dressed here."
Jamie thought this was an odd request, but perhaps she was overanalyzing things. After all, she got dressed in front of other women all the time at the gym. She then pulled her work shirt out of her pants and started unbuttoning it. She slipped it off of her body and threw it into one of the nearby drawers. Her pants came off next, which meant she was no standing there in her grey bra and panties. The bra pushed up her tits so well that they were standing at attention.
"I refuse to believe you don't have a boyfriend with that body. You look magnificent, girl."
"It's true. No boyfriend."
"How do you normally dress?"
"Mostly in sweats, I like to be comfortable."
"There's your problem, you need some clothes to highlight your brilliant assets. It's a shame your hiding so much beauty under gym clothes."
In truth, Jamie was mildly introverted, having difficulty showing off parts of her body to others. This is probably why she liked working by herself on elevators. Now this conversation was a stark contrast from how she lived her life, given that she was having a causal conversation in her underwear.
"It's not a big deal, I enjoy my alone time. I'm an especially avid reader."
"Books are fine and all, but there's something a book will never give you...worldly experience. I'm telling you, if you don't become more adventurous now, you'll regret it later."
This was a common complaint Jamie heard from her friends and family. She was 29 years-old now and life was sort of passing her by. Sure. She still had plenty of time, but her 20's were remarkably uneventful.
