Early Morning Kayaking
By Nutmegman
I had made plans with friends to do some early morning (for me) kayaking. The night before I loaded the kayak on the rack, put my pfd, dry bag, sun tan lotion, paddle and stuff in the car. I just had to remember to bring something to drink and wear clothes or bathing suit to get wet in.
I left the house for 6 am hoping to get up to Bartons Cove in Gill, MA near the Turners Falls dam for 7 am. Thankfully I seemed to miss the town and city traffic and made good time to the boat launch. There were 4 of us and it was the first paddle of the year for me. The five miles out and back felt great and I was going to ache in my shoulders, back and arms very soon as I over did it a bit. Ten miles round trip was probably 3 miles longer than I planned but it was great being back on the water.
We were pulling out of the water as the power boaters were arriving. Most of them tend to be rude and speed by us dangerously close. But getting out there early is usually safe for us. Seeing the eagles nest and soaring eagles above us, was a plus for the trip.
We all loaded our kayaks and stuff into our vehicles, made plans for another paddle somewhere next week to be coordinated via email and we all left. I took my time, cranked some good tunes and started the drive south to my house. I didn't get very far when the phone rang. Without thinking I answered it. I usually let unknown callers leave a voicemail message, but I didn't think and answered it.
"This is Lou the Computer Guy" I said. "Hi Lou, this is Suzanne Jacobs, all my friends said you are the computer guy I should call. So here I am. I have a new laptop and need it set up and transfer my files from my old computer. Can you do that?"
"I sure can Suzanne. Where are you located? And when would you like this done, when are you available."
"I'm in West Deerfield, right above the Deerfield River, minutes off route 91. Is there any chance you can stop by today Lou?"
"Uh, well, I'm actually just north of you having just kayaked in Bartons Cove and the Connecticut River. I'm in water shoes, bathing suit and t-shirt. I'm clean, a little damp and not really in my presentable work clothes."
"Lou, it's going to be another scorcher of a day. We have a swimming pool out back. The AC is on in the house. Come on by the way you are and take a swim when you're done."
"Uh, OK. Let me stop and get a bagel or something for breakfast number 2 as I'm starving. I just kayaked 10 miles and worked up a hunger."
"Lou, we have fresh bagels and cream cheese, I can make some eggs, or burgers on the grill for lunch or sandwiches. I have lots of food with 22 and 24 year old kids home for the summer. They are always hungry, so the fridge is always stocked. Help yourself to anything."
"OK Suzanne. I'm just getting on 91 south in Greenfield and can be there in about 20 minutes. Please text me your address. I'm driving a Ford pickup with a green kayak on top, if you see one in your driveway, that's me"
I arrived about 20 minutes later. Getting out of the truck and bringing what I needed for the job. I felt the morning sun and it was going to be a hot day, that's for sure. It was only May, it was going to be a killer hot summer if this weather continued.
I rang the door bell and introduced myself to Suzanne and she to me. She was pretty, dark hair and a nice bod. My guess was that she was around 45 years old. She was a looker.
She had both computers on the kitchen table and the view out back was pretty. Nice outdoor pool and beyond was the river. A sight that no one could ever tire of.
I followed her to the kitchen and she told me where the glasses were and as I reached up and groaned. My shoulder, back and arms were sore already. I got a big glass and filled it with OJ from the fridge, picked a bagel and a cream cheese from the 3 types she had and thanked her very much and went back to the table and computers.
"Lou, what was that groan you made?"
"I definitely over did the first kayaking of the season. My back, shoulders and arms are already achy. I'm going to be hurting very soon."
"My 22 year old daughter Rebecca, who is home for the summer, is a masseuse and if she ever wakes up can give you a massage. She has magic fingers and can work away your aches and pains. My son is away for the week with friends for his vacation."
"That would be fantastic." "Looking at your computers, I probably have 2 to 3 hours of work depending on how fast the data backs up from the old computer. The bagel is delicious, thank you very much. It's perfect as breakfast number 2."
At that moment Suzanne's phone rang and she answered it. She came over a few minutes later and said "That was work, the day shift supervisor went into labor and asked if I can come in and work a double shift. The labor is 2 weeks early and they have no one else to call at the moment. So I said yes. I'll wake up Rebecca. She can take away your aches and will write you a check when you are done. Just leave the invoice on the counter. Feel free to take a dip in the pool too, the water is refreshing. Thank you for being able to stop by today. The way you are dressed is perfectly fine with me, we're very casual here." And she went down the hall and then returned saying "I woke up Rebecca and she'll be out soon. Thank you again." And walked out the door. I heard the garage door go up, and her back her vehicle out and the door went down again.
I continued to work and about 25 minutes later, Rebecca emerged from the hall. She was a younger and even prettier version of her mom. She had on long pants and long sleeve pj's and walked in and said hello as she made herself a coffee.
She walked over to me and I stood and held out my hand to introduce myself. "Hi, I'm Lou the Computer Guy."
"You're not dressed like any computer guy. My mom said you are achy, from what and where? You can call me Reb." As she held out her hand which was soft and smooth. She was gorgeous. She must have been wearing contacts as her eyes were green and beautiful. She saw me looking at her eyes and said "Contacts. You like?"
"Yes, very much so. You have beautiful eyes." I said.
"Most guys stare at my boobs or butt, you're the first to look at me, my eyes and face. You're different Mr. Lou. I like that." She reached down and grabbed her boobs causing me to look. "They're not much to look at and guys don't look for long. Same with my little butt."
"I, uh, can't see much under your pj's, but what I see is beautiful. I can't imagine any guy or girl being able to look away Reb. Maybe they feel you are out of their league?"
She smiled. "Where are you achy and what did you do to cause that?" I explained that I kayaked this morning and over did it and am already achy in my shoulders, back and arms.
"I should be able to make you feel better. Let me eat breakfast and get my massage table, oils and stuff and get ready for you. Probably 30 minutes. Is that good?"
