The following story contains themes of non-biological mother-son incest, mild reluctance, heavy exhibitionism, and first-time sexual intercourse. Please enjoy this first entry of "Duties of the Only Man on Earth"!
-----
As much as Adam's daily life had become routine, he still somehow manage to find great pleasure in it.
Adam was, for all intents and purposes, the only man alive on planet Earth. There was no way to know for absolute certain if this was true, but he was the only man known to have been born in two centuries.
For reasons that nobody can truly explain, men stopped being born about two hundred years ago. It was a gradual realization to humanity, but as each worldwide census started to note that the female population was growing while the male population was remaining stagnant, panic began to set in. The number of males were dwindling, and people had experienced a baby-boom unlike anything seen before.
All of the children born during this time were female.
Men accepted that their duty in life was to ensure the longest possible continuation of the human species, and worked to store as much sperm as possible before that horrific inevitable future crept up. Millions of samples were stored, and eventually it happened. The very last man died and women everywhere were concerned for the continued existence of humanity. The immediate future was taken care of, but nobody knew what would happen once the samples of sperm ran dry.
Life on planet Earth continued almost as normal, with women continuing to live their lives. Key changes were made to their lifestyles, however, as women who wanted kids would have to go and get a donation from the stored sperm of the men who were now extinct. All the children born this way turned out female, but scientists and doctors and researchers worked day-in and day-out to discover ways to return the male population to Earth.
Supplies of semen were dwindling. A creeping pressure was felt by everyone in society as the question rose within everyone's minds: what happens if we run out? The crisis started to spread as top researchers calculated that there was only enough sperm left over for about twenty years of births. Miraculously, it wasn't long after this announcement that Adam was born.
Adam's birth was a closely guarded secret. After doctors had discovered that his mother held a male child in her womb, they tried their best to stifle this information, and every care was taken to ensure his safe arrival on Earth. Rumors spread, of course, but nothing concrete could ever be confirmed. The world stood still, hoping against hope that the talk was true, but never being quite sure.
Adam had never really gotten to know his birth mother. As was to be expected, Adam was given up to the control of the Worldwide Fertility Council, the premiere organization for the study of the decline of men. His birth mother had been studied, and offered exorbitant amounts of money to continue having children in the event that those children were male also. After four children all were born female, people were stumped by the anomaly that was Adam. Perhaps a genetic mishap, but everyone knew he was a miracle.
Adam grew up well taken care of, though his upbringing was unlike anything anyone had ever experienced. He was assigned a mother-figure from the Council, Alice, who raised him like he was her own. He was studied daily, though not intrusively, but after a decade of research that went nowhere, the council found the best course of action to be to just let him live his life. Soon enough he would become fertile, and that is when his true purpose in life would begin.
Through his upbringing, Alice and Adam stayed separate from the world. His isolation was in the interest of keeping him safe. He had teachers who taught him everything about the world, including revealing who he was and why he was so important. Adam took to his role well, and due to his upbringing by Alice, always felt a sense of duty and obligation to humanity.

On the day of his eighteenth birthday, Alice had baked him a cake.
"Happy birthday, Adam!" she said, smiling brightly and holding out the cake for him as he lay in his bed.
"Thank you, Alice!" Adam said, and blew out the candles.
Alice sat down on the bed and gave Adam a massive hug. She swung him back and forth with more force than necessary, and Adam yelled performatively. Alice let him go and rubbed his hair.
Adam always knew that Alice wasn't his real mother, but she had been the one to raise him. He had spent many nights sleeping next to her when it was cold out, had enjoyed many game and movie nights with her, and even learned how to dress well and take care of himself from her. She was his mentor, but the nature of their relationship had changed only slightly when Adam had started noticing her as a woman.
Adam could tell that Alice was beautiful, with her long blonde hair and round face that lit up a room. As he got older, he noticed her body more and more, sensations which were confusing and strange to him. He would often have dreams about her, being the only woman truly close to him in his life, besides the doctors and teachers that were brought in to help him. In his dreams, he would touch her on her hips, or on her large breasts, or she would touch him on his chest and neck and other places, though he couldn't tell for sure exactly what he should be doing. When he woke up from one of those dreams, he would ask Alice what they meant and what they were about. Alice had always told him "We will talk about that stuff once you turn eighteen."
And today was the day.
Alice kissed him on the forehead, and said "Let's go downstairs and have some breakfast. You've got a big day ahead of you."
Breakfast was a feast, with bacon and eggs and pancakes and fresh fruit galore. Adam and Alice chowed down, joking and laughing and enjoying each other's company. As breakfast was drawing to a close, Alice's personality began to shift subtly. Adam presumed that it was about his grand purpose, and asked her about it.
"Alice, you told me that on my eighteenth birthday you would tell me about my dreams. What they meant and why I felt so weird when I had them."
Alice smiled. It was good to know that Adam was already thinking about this. "Of course, Adam. I'm willing to tell you everything you know. That's actually the main thing we are going to do today."
Adam smiled. "I'm glad I get to finally find out. I have always had my suspicions that those dreams are connected to that grand purpose you were always telling me about."
Alice nodded calmly. The floodgates were opened, and it was now time to reveal everything to Adam.
"Of course, darling." Alice said, and pulled her chair closer to Adam so they could sit right next to each other. "You remember those sex education lessons you were taught?"
Adam remembered them well. They seemed so strange to him, especially since it felt like the teacher was far removed from the experience of anything she was talking about. "I remember," he said, "about how babies used to be made before the men disappeared?"
