WELCOME NEIGHBOR - PART 2
CHAPTER 1
Bruce helped his dad catch up on a job that had gotten behind schedule because one of his men had been off sick. That kept him busy over his weekend off, so he didn't go over to Dot's any more that weekend. Then he was back at work for 3 days. He and Dot talked on the phone and sent a few text messages, but didn't see each other all week.
He watched Sandy out in the yard sometimes before he went to work in the evening. Sometimes laying out in her bikini. Or washing her boyfriend's car, again in her bikini. Or shorts and a halter top. She spent quite a bit of time outside, presumably to keep her nice tan. And she did look really good. He thought he had given up on her, but realized he still lusted after her. He knew there would never be any chance of a relationship, but if he could just get in her pants. Just one time. Damn! She was hot.
He had to help his dad again the next weekend. He didn't mind. His dad was a great father and had done a lot for him, so it was not a burden to help when he needed it. And he paid him good, too. Bruce told Dot he was sorry he hadn't been back to finish any more of the jobs she wanted done yet, but that he should be free next weekend, hopefully. She said it was fine. That there was no rush.
CHAPTER 2
He did go over the following Friday about 2 PM. Dot was still at work. He said hi to Sandy, who was laying on a blanket in the backyard sunbathing. She was her usual unfriendly self. She answered when he asked a question, but wasn't real chatty. After trying to chat her up for about 10 minutes he gave up and said he was going in to put up a ceiling fan in the living room that her mom wanted if that was okay. She said, "Whatever."
He was just finishing up when Dot came in from work. She was working as a paralegal at lawyer Franklin's office downtown. She was dressed nicely. A knee length grey skirt, white button-up blouse, pantyhose, and black shoes with a slight heel. Her brown hair hung loose around her face. She also had glasses on, making her look very professional. And also pretty hot. They were very stylish glasses and added to her appeal. She had make-up on and smelled really nice. He told her she looked really nice.
"Why, thank you. I had to get a new wardrobe for this job. I tried to get something that would look professional but still be somewhat cute and not too frumpy."
"Mission accomplished. You look great. And I love the glasses. I didn't know you wore glasses."
"Just when I'm reading or working. Or driving sometimes. I just forgot to take them off when I got out of the car."
"They look good. Perfect for your face. They make you look scholarly. And sexy."
"Thank you. I usually don't wear them because I think they make me look old and decrepit."
"Not at all. They really do look good. You are beautiful and it would take more than a pair of glasses to detract from that."
"Thank you again. You're just full of compliments today. Or full of something, anyway. I see you got the fan up. Thanks. I'm going in and change into something more comfortable, then start supper. Will you join us?"
"I don't want to impose. You don't need to be cooking for me."
"You're not imposing. I have to cook for the kids anyway. Please stay. I want you to."
"Well, okay. Thanks. But only if I can wash dishes afterwards."
"Gladly. I hate that job. And it's like pulling teeth to get either one of the kids to help."
CHAPTER 3
Bruce cleaned up, put his tools away, and took the box and trash out to the trash can. Dot went in to change out of her work clothes. She came out wearing a pair of loose fitting yellow, mid thigh length shorts and a loose t-shirt with a picture of Elvis Presley on it. And no glasses. Or shoes. She had also washed the make-up off but still looked very pretty. He thought she didn't really need it.
Bruce carried his tools over to his house, came back, showed Dot the remote and how it worked. She hugged him and said she loved it. She got her purse to pay him and he said, "Put that away. I don't want your money. I was doing it as a friend."
"Take it. Remember. In the beginning I told you I wasn't going to let you do the work if I couldn't pay you."
"Yeah. I remember. But that was before we became friends. Now I just want to do it as a friend helping a friend. Maybe I'll let you pay for the bigger jobs. But this was nothing. Please. Let's not make a big deal out of it."
"Okay. I won't argue. But this is not going to happen all the time. I would have to pay anybody else. And I don't expect you to give up your time off doing stuff for me."
"Fair enough. Now feed me and we'll be even."
She laughed. "You got it."
Dot threw some pork chops that she had put in to marinade that morning in the oven and got stuff out to make salads. Bruce bumped her aside with his hip and said he would make the salads. For her to sit down and relax a little bit. But instead she opened a couple cans of green beans and put them in a pot to warm on the stove.
Then they sat down to talk and wait on the pork chops to be done. Supper was ready in about 45 minutes and she called Sandy and Liam in to eat. Sandy ate very little, and very quickly. She said she was going out with Troy. Bruce didn't know who Troy was. Last he heard she was dating somebody named Connor. Dot looked at him, shook her head and said, "Don't ask."
After supper Liam went to hang out with 'the guys', and said he'd be home by 11. Dot put away the leftovers and Bruce washed the dishes. When he was done he said, "I'll go home now so you can rest. I'm sure you had a long day at work."
