"So cleverly I thought I would be home free. First of all, my baby could have been Matt's and all would be well in such case. After Erica regained her composure from her laughing jag, she was able to continue outlining her problems with her marriage saying:

"As I'd hinted, after two years of marriage, the quantity of our sexual intercourse started diminishing. Still though, I kept strict records of my periods. "For example, if Matt's sperm count is low, or Matt's sperm are not strong enough to swim all the way to my egg, then artificial insemination could be the answer. And of course, there are other strategies that can be explored depending upon the circumstances. And if all else fails there is always the possibility of adoption, but I would not want to opt for that solution until it is absolutely certain that I could not become pregnant with Matt.

"As it is, by being silent about all the circumstances of my pregnancy, all kinds of morbid ideas and suppositions must have entered his head. I think Matt still believes he was the father of my child since he was well aware we had become exclusive months before conception could have occurred. That in fact was absolutely true except for the two occasions I succumbed to Dad's friend. For that matter I also believed Matt was the father as the odds were certainly in his favor. That of course was the main reason for my not telling Matthew about Mark. Why upset the apple cart was my mantra to justify my silence.

"So what plagues Matt the most is how to square the fact that he'd presumably impregnated me four years ago but hasn't been successful in doing it again. He was also privy to the many times I broke down into heart wrenching tears upon experiencing the onset of yet another period which signified I was still not pregnant. Surely those facts alone should make it clear that I really do desire to become pregnant by him. Finally, I told him that I would sign any and all permission slips necessary so that he could inquire of every doctor and pharmacist in Lydiaville and the surrounding area to ascertain whether I was utilizing any birth control measure. He hasn't availed himself of that offer.
