Reverse Cowgirl
* * *
Nancy and I were sleeping soundly at 7:00 AM after our night at the Horseshoe when suddenly Angie was beating on our door, "Hey, hey, hey. Get your sweet pussies upâwe got work to do!"
Nancy rolled over and put her head under the covers, "Go away Angieâit's Saturday! I'm sleeping!"
I muttered, "Angie, Coach said, 'No practice till Monday.' Now go away!"
Angie was laughing, "Get your sweet asses up! Jamie and Michelle are already over at the gym! It's time for a little 3 on 2!"
I realized Angie wasn't going to go away so I got up, opened the door and there stood Angie ready for battleâholding a basketball in her hands!
Nancy and I stumbled around our room and finally got ready.
The three of us were heading toward the gym when I asked, "What's going on?"
Angie smiled, "You'll see...Well, both of you will. Jamie, Michelle, and me will challenge y'all in a little pick-up game of 3 on 2. It's time you both 'grew up' to what will take place this season when we play on the road."
Nancy and I were puzzled as we entered the gym.
Jamie smiled, "Glad you two finally made it! Remember last night I warned y'all about staying at the Horseshoe till 1:00 AM! Now you both are going to pay the price!"
Michelle laughed, "During the season you'll be faced with situations where you'll be forced to improvise, adapt, and today's little exercise will be lesson one on teaching you both how to spontaneously deal with adversity on the court."
Angie shouted, "Let's get goingâthe maintenance crew will be in around 10:00 to start setting up chairs for the closed circuit telecast of today's game. We get first ball in!"
Angie threw the ball inbound to Jamie who passed to Michelle then back to Angie. Their short quick passes were running Nancy and me ragged!
After 'toying' with us for a while, Jamie fired a bullet pass to Michelle. It didn't take Nancy and me long to see why Michelle was a two-time All Conference point guard, juking Nancy with one of the quickest jab steps I'd ever seen.
Michelle dribbled with lightning speed toward the baseline from the right wing, leaving me flat footed with a crossover step while dribbling beyond the bucket and making a reverse lay-up with her left hand on the left side of the hoop! Nancy and I looked at each other with a 'did you see that' look on our faces.
Angie was laughing, "Don't feel bad y'all. When I was a freshman she left me playing with my twat more times than one when we played the Tigers!"
Michelle only smiled, "Maybe, but we never could beat State for the conference championship in the four years I played. Now, let's get busy and play some ball! Y'all's ball in!"
Angie and Jamie were all over me, harassing the hell out of me, while I was trying to pass to Nancy. Angie grabbed my arm, clearly a foul, Michelle picked off the wobbly inbound pass, and once again was driving with lighting speed toward the bucket.
Nancy cut her off, establishing her defensive position, but Michelle lowered her shoulders sending her 5'9", 128-pound athletic frame into Nancy, rolling her head over heels, while easily making another lay-up.
Nancy got up, "Hey that was a charge! No basket!"
I yelled, "Angie fouled me too! No basket, our ball!"
Michelle looked at Jamie, "Coach, you hear any whistles?"
Jamie said, "Nope, never heard a whistle, so guess the basket is good, and there were no fouls! Y'all's ball in!"
I calmly took the ball, faked a pass to Nancy and dribbled to my left. I quickly used the move Jamie had taught me, which left the tea sip bitch flat on her ass, catching Michelle just slightly off guard with a bounce pass to my right hand. Nancy set a screen on Jamie and I drove the lane toward the basket realizing what our mentors were trying to teach us.
Angie established her defensive position, but I barreled my 5'10", 138-pound athletic frame into her, knocking her backwards like a bowling ball knocks down pins! I laid the ball up off the glass and through the net, while Angie was doing a 360 backward somersault! Angie got up yelling "Foul! You charged, Sue. No fucking basket!"
I grinned at Nancy, "Roommateâdid you hear a whistle?"
Nancy, realizing what was happening, smiled, "I never heard a whistle, guess it wasn't a charge! Y'all's ball in!"
The young freshmen were learning their lessons! There would be times we'd have to adapt, improvise to the game as the officials were calling it.
