Alexandra had stayed tucked under his arm most of the trip back into the city. She sighed in relief as an over abundance of skyscrapers came into view. The glass of the building reflected the dying sunlight directly into her eyes. Alex turned to Victor and smiled. Not sure if Hugo would listen to her she gave Victor the directions to Le Bernardin. He laughed softly.
"Everyone under my command now is under yours."
Victor relayed the direction to Le Bernardin to Hugo. The traffic was light and they were in the city in no time. It gave him a new sense of what the city looked like with her under his arm. The city was beautiful. She was beautiful, things were going great.
She blushed then giggled, "I swear you are reading my mind Victor."
Alexandra nudges him with her elbow then nibbles on his earlobe. The sun had started to set as they pulled alongside the restaurant, the golden lights from the enclosed balcony made the sidewalk glow.
"I promise," he said looking into her eyes, "That is not one of my gifts."
Due to the location of the restaurant he told Hugo to stay in the car. He opened the door and got out to help Alexandra. The lights were bright and beautiful, but when she walked out, that was pure beauty. He held her hand as he opened the door and walked in with her. Alexandra smiled her cheeks a light rose color. The crimson shade of her dress against the gold lights made her skin dance with the colors of fire. The hostess was pale and in all black. Her hair was pulled back. She spoke with a heavy french accent. She knew it would be easier for the poor if she just spoke french. Alexandra smiled and spoke to the girl in a soft tone.
"Nous avons une rΓ©servation pour deux sous Pierce."
The hostess just smiled and lead them toward the back. Victor smiled, he actually did not know French and actually found it attractive. He followed Alexandra. He saw many faces he knew. He shook some hands and said a few words here and there. His eyes never left her. Her perfume, her hair, and finally her eyes held his gaze. Many women tried to get his attention, but she was there with him. That's all that mattered. They sat down and looked at the menu.
"I hope you know that you don't have to worry about the price," he winked.
She could have the world if she just asked. She couldn't help but laugh.
"Victor honestly if I was worried about price I definitely would have chosen somewhere else. This is a fine French cuisine restaurant. Most of the appetizers are over twenty dollars."
Alexandra could sense people were staring at her when she took his hand.
"I think I am making many women jealous tonight."
"Up until 48 hours ago, I was the most eligible bachelor in New York," he said and leaned in so only she could hear, "However, none know that I am over 1100 years old my dear. I was only kidding about the price. I would give the world to you if you wanted."
He stared into her blue eyes and just continued to get lost in them. She was so beautiful. She couldn't help but press her lips to his careful not to sneak her lipstick. He was hers and no one else could have him. Possession glowed in her eyes as a blonde at the table next to them sneered in her direction. The waitress finally arrived. This girl actually spoke English which would help him out. He waited until Alexandra ordered and then said, "I would like the Steak au Poivre with Cognac Sauce and please bring our table the most expensive bottle of wine."
They handed her the menus and his hands took one Alexandra's hands.
"I may not speak French but I can dine and wine more than they can."
She giggles as her thumb rubs against his hand.
"French happens to be my second language. The chef here used to work for my family."
Alexandra sang along with radio. Her gaze never left his as they waited for their dinner.
"Really?" he asked, "That's very interesting. Have you been to France?"
He had been there many times. He had been everywhere to be honest but it was all alone. Now he could experience the world with a companion.
Alexandra just smiled.
"Yes. I have been several times. Every one of them to Paris."
Her grip tightened on his hand as she spoke.
"My grandmother is a very powerful French diplomat."
"Really?" he said, "What is her name? I have been on many international councils. I may have met her several times throughout my travels and dealings."
He wondered if he had met Alexandra before as a child.
"Her name is Amelia Le Droue, she would be about 67 now. I spent a lot of time during the summers with her when I was little."
She happened to look to her left to see the waitress bringing over their food. Seeing how she had not eaten since breakfast, Alexandra was quite hungry. He saw her look away and then saw the food. It looked great and he did realize she had not eaten since the waffles.
The waitress put the food down and a fifteen thousand dollar bottle of wine. She poured each of them a glass and Victor toasted the two of them with a clink of their glasses. Alexandra smiled and took a sip. Wine was not her favorite thing but fancy dinner deserves an ever fancier drink. She at her plate; her stake was still bleeding. Therefore it was perfection. When she looked back up his eyes were on her just staring. His eyes only left her when he cut a piece of his own steak. It was delicious. The vegetables were superbly cooked and the wine was amazing. He would have to add the bottle type to his collection. He looked into her eyes and asked, "How is it?"
"It's perfectly cooked. And surprisingly I am in love with this wine. I made a good call for dinner."
Alexandra smiles sweetly and offered him a bite. It was a little spicy. He eagerly leaned and took the piece from the her fork. Yes it was spicy but nothing he could handle.
He smiled and said, "That's good. So far you make the best decisions."
He winked at her and took another piece of his steak. She giggles quietly and continues to eat. Alexandra ignored the stares and whispers as there dinner went on. Being here with him made her heart race. Everytime he looked at she got butterflies. He smiled at her as she continued to eat. He too heard the whispers and saw the stares but these people knew nothing. He was older than their families could be traced. He was more rich and powerful then they could imagine. He would give It all to her if he could.
"I think I will be buying a case of wine from them for my private collection. This is good," he said downing his glass. Alexandra swallowed the chunk of food that was lodged in her throat and looked at him.
"Is an entire case necessary Victor? I know money is not a problem but I don't drink wine very often."
She looked at him hoping that he wasn't buying it because she liked it.
