This is a continuation of The Lawsons Pt. 7
Recap - Upon their return from Italy, Samantha is offered an interview for the position of Sarah's assistant. The interview goes well and she is offered the position. Roger finally purchases a truck, amazed that he can just pay for it with the card in his wallet. Sarah surprises Emma and Roger by wanting to have a child--Roger's child. But since she wants to move to the house in Italy, Emma and Roger would just play the role of godparents. After a long lovemaking session, Roger and Emma admit to each other that they love Sarah, and the next day they plan a very impromptu wedding with just the three of them, although not an official one, to bring Sarah into the fold. After the brief and very sexy ceremony, and another massive lovemaking session, Emma decides that Roger has to take Sarah to Italy for her own honeymoon while Emma stays home to get Samantha's first day of work started off right.

-------------------------------------------
It was Monday morning and Samantha arrived right on time. Emma, Sarah, and Roger stood at the front door and watched her park just where Emma had instructed. When she got out of the car, Sarah whispered, "Wow."
"Yeah," Emma added.
Samantha was a small, young woman. She was 5'4" and could not have weighed more than 120 pounds. Her long, black hair hung down to her shoulder blades, partially covering the black blazer she wore over the gray crew-cut T-shirt. The dark jeans she wore were very tight, showing off her small hips and leading down to her black flats. She had a dark brown, leather messenger bag slung over her shoulder as she strode up to the front door.
Roger opened the door for her. "Good morning, Sam," he said.
She smiled. "Good morning," she replied, looking at all three of them.
"So, there has been a little change of plans," Emma said. "Today you'll be with Sarah, but she and Roger are flying out tonight on business. So, it'll just be me, you, and the staff."
Samantha had no reason to ask why Roger and Sarah were going since this was a business. "Okay," was all she said.
"Follow me," Sarah said as they walked off through the foyer to the office area. "I'll take you to the office and we'll get you all set up. This will be a bit of a whirlwind day because I'll need to make sure you have all the access you need, but don't worry--Emma can get you set up with anything that we may miss today."
Emma and Roger went to their offices and started working on their own things. Roger called the doctor to set up his vasectomy reversal and had a date set for three days after he and Sarah would return from Italy. The night before, the three of them had packed up everything that he and Sarah would need for their trip, so Roger began carrying the bags down to the garage. Emma insisted Roger drive Sarah in his truck to leave at the airport. If she had gone with them, she was afraid that she wouldn't let them get on the plane because she would miss them so much.
As if this day wasn't going to be busy enough, Sarah had contacted Derek to come by at lunch with all the same paperwork that he'd brought for Roger. She explained to him that both she and Roger wanted Sarah's name on everything as well, calling it a business decision. She clarified that everything should be in the name of Sarah Lawson and that Derek should also bring a name change form changing Sarah's last name from Hayes to Lawson. He was very confused, and kept asking questions, but she shut him down.
Roger had asked that a very nice lunch be made in Samantha's honor. After his phone call with the doctor, he popped into Sarah's office. "I'm sorry to interrupt," he said, "but Samantha, are you allergic to anything, or have any food requirements? Since we provide breakfast and lunch, we like to make sure we have something available for everyone."
She shook her head. "I'm not picky, other than not being a fan of avocado."
"Yuck. Neither am I," he said, scrunching his nose. "Okay. I'll let the kitchen staff know."
"Uh, sir?" she said before he left.
"Roger," he corrected.
"Sorry. I'll get it right. Would there happen to be any coffee available?" She looked at Sarah hoping it would be okay.
He looked at her flatly. "You're asking if the house of a former Marine First Sergeant has coffee available?"
She laughed. "Would you mind if I grabbed a cup real quick, Sarah?"
"No, no," Roger said. "I'll get it for you. What color do you like?"
It was her turn to look at him flatly. "Black, Roger. Always black."
"Good Marine. I'll be back," he said and disappeared.
Samantha turned back to Sarah. "Is he always that nice? I mean, I apologize if this is inappropriate, but anyone I've ever met with money was kind of, well, snobby."
"Roger and Emma are two of the warmest and kind people I have ever met in my life," Sarah replied. "Of course, I've known Emma since she was little, but she was raised right. This place really is like a family, Sam. I know it's a bit weird because you work for them, but they don't treat you like 'just an employee'," she said, using air quotes. "They treat you like a person who happens to do some work for them. You'll get used to them, especially Roger. He's...well, different."
"Different?"
"Honest to a fault, kind, protective and loyal to those he loves, and he would quite literally give you the shirt off of his back." Sarah saw that Sam looked a bit dubious of her last comment. "Don't believe me? Watch."
Roger walked back in the door and, as usual, he was wearing one of his Marine Corps shirts, this one was black with the 2nd Recon Battalion logo on it in gray.
"Here you go, Sam," he said as he set a large mug on the desk that Sarah had set up for her. "I've asked them to keep the coffee going through lunch in case you want more later."
"Roger," Sarah said, and Sam turned to her with her eyes wide, pleading with her. "Sam was talking about your t-shirt and how much she liked it."
"Oh yeah?" he asked. When Samantha turned back to him, he noticed Sarah surreptitiously motioning for him to take his shirt off and hand it to Sam. "Did you have your eyes on being in a recon unit?"
"It would have been an amazing feat, but even though women are allowed to try out now, none have made it yet."
He nodded. "I think women in MARSOC would be a great thing. Want me to get you one of these shirts?" he asked. "Actually, here," he said and pulled the t-shirt off and handed it to her. "Take mine. It's a few years old, and I swear it's clean--well, I've only had it on for about an hour and a half. But you can have it."
She slowly took it from him, amazed that he had given her the shirt he had been wearing, just like Sarah had said. But she was even more amazed at how good he looked. She'd met several Marines who had been out a few years, and they quickly went downhill, but Roger was still an amazing specimen of a man.
"Th-thank you, sir--I mean, Roger."
