The long weekend is finally underway. It's been a terribly cold, snowy, drive up, but the weather won't ruin my vacation spirit. I'm finally getting some alone time at the cabin, something I've needed for months. The car and cabin are already stocked, and I won't have to leave or see anyone for at least three days. Enjoying the views despite the cloudy skies only a mile left. A few more minutes until peace, quiet and solitude.
Coming around the bend I see a car stuck in the snow, on the side of the road. "Do I? Don't I? Definitely not, right? But what if they're in trouble, fine a quick stop," I think to myself. Pulling over in front of the car and getting out. "Can I help you?" You look at me, tired, cold, worried. Wondering if you can trust me, but what choice do you have stuck up in the mountains. I can see you looking me up and down, concerned. "It's ok, I just wanted to help" seeing how nervous you are, "I get it" and head back to the car. One last look in the rear-view mirror and I feel so bad, but better to know when you're not needed. "Good luck" I mumble to myself as I start to pull away.
A snowball hits my back windshield and I stop the car. I can see you running toward my car. "What now?" I don't even get out of the car just roll down the window as you catch up and stand by the window. "The tow truck said they can't make it up here in this storm and it'll be at least two days until they arrive, I'm not sure what to do" you say so understandably frustrated, practically yelling at me. I really want to be a good person, but I really need this time alone. "I'm staying just up the road, you're welcome to join me just to get out of the cold and figure out what to do next, but I understand since I'm a stranger..." You cut me off and say "Yes, please" You don't even wait for my answer before heading back to your car.
Enthusiastic to get out of the cold and a little apprehensive to go with me. You get your bags, hop in the warm car and we head off. "What were you doing up here, if I can ask?" "I was heading to a work conference but wanted to enjoy the scenic route, I guess that was a mistake." "I believe everything happens for a reason, but there's some nice views from the cabin, we'll be there in just a minute." cabin You think to yourself, he looks nice enough but it's probably some murder shack, this is the last time anyone is going to see me, I should a call someone. You look at your phone, no service! "Can I use your phone?" you ask "of course" You call a few people and let them know, give them the address, and feel more confident about this. You hand it back to me with the first glimmer of a smile "Thank you."
We pull up to the end of the long driveway "Where's the cabin?" you ask. I point to the structure in front of us. "What do you mean that's it, right there in front of us?" "What!? That's not a cabin! That's a fucking chalet!" I smile, "The tow truck can't get here fast enough." You run out of the car leaving me to get your bags and I see you dart off to explore. There are three floors, the upstairs has 4 bedrooms, a theater room & laundry room. Each room has its own en suite amenities. The master suite has a deck overlooking the mountains, with an outdoor jacuzzi, overlooking the main deck downstairs with an even bigger jacuzzi overlooking the winter heated pool. There are no houses around, the air is crisp and clean, the scene is amazing inside and out. Feeling lucky to be here.
I carry the bags in "I'll leave your bags at the door until you figure out what you want to do" but you're acting like a little kid at a hotel for the first time darting from room to room. "Are you ok with steak, potatoes for dinner? "Yes!" I hear from somewhere. Happy you're feeling more comfortable while I prepare dinner. I see you every few minutes as you go upstairs exploring until you eventually come downstairs and plop down on the couch off the kitchenette. I can hear you calling your friends, posting pix and feeling a bit better out of the cold.
