The Bunker Project
By: VanillaUnicorn
Chapter 3: The 3rd Wave
Third Week of March 2024
It hadn't even been a month since the first residents entered the bunker and Paul had already had some form of sex with multiple women he welcomed into the Bunker. This was something he knew he needed to change and he swore to himself to keep it professional going forward. It was only a matter of time before someone caught on to what was happening and he was afraid of what that might bring.
Of course he had also been careless in that he hadn't erased the footage of his sexual encounter with Ashlei yet either. For all he knew anyone could have already watched what he had done. He had been wisely more careful to cover his tracks with the White sisters and thankfully his little romp with Cori and Kristy had been done outside of the quarantine rooms where no cameras recorded any of what happened.
Granted he wouldn't have minded if he did have a recording of it, if nothing else than to watch it back the way he had the few times with the video of him and Sarah together. He wasn't sure what had changed in himself though, prior to all this happening he hadn't had the desire for anything sexual since his late wife had died. It wasn't from the lack of interest from the women around him because women routinely threw themselves at him but he always shot them down. He rationalized it as most were just interested in his money or the fame that might come from hooking up with him.
He was just finishing up with his breakfast when his phone began to ring. It was the administrative offices calling to let him know that Jade wanted to see him. She had more questions she wanted to ask him finally.
The walk over to her residential tower wasn't long since it was in the same general area that his was. Looking down at his phone, he double checked that he had the right suite number and made his way into the building. Her suite was located on the fourth floor so he opted for the stairs instead of the elevator for a bit of exercise. Approaching her door he knocked and waited for a reply.
It took a couple minutes but Jade finally opened it up and let him inside. She was dressed in her own clothes again and he got a sense that she preferred a more casual style to clothing. Her place still wasn't unpacked and boxes were carelessly strewn about the place.
"Hi. They said you had some more questions about things?" Paul asked.
"Uh yeah a few actually. I remembered you said that I would have this place to myself unless it got over-populated here or if I met someone. What did you mean by met someone?" She asked with a bit of curiosity in her words.
"Oh well surely as time goes by it's a strong possibility that you might meet someone here and develop feelings for them leading to that person moving in with you or you with them." He explains.
"I see. Are there a lot of single people that are going to be living here?" She asks.
"I'm not sure how many but yes there will be other single people living here." He answers.
"Ah and am I going to be required to be with any of those people?" She asks almost hinting at something.
"No, no one will force you to do anything of that nature here. If you are interested in someone or something happens with someone that will be entirely up to you. Well you and that other person since it would all be expected to be consentual." He explains further.
Her questions did very little to quiet the little voice in Paul's head that was telling him to check her out again and possibly hit on her. The sexual tension between the two of them had been steadily building the longer they sat with each other. Jade's questions seemed to give the slightest hint that she had called him over there with something else in mind.
"Is that all you wanted to ask me?" Paul asks her in an attempt to wrap things up.
"I guess but I am curious about a few other things though. You don't have to answer but I'm interested to know more about you." She tells him with that bit of sparkle in her eyes again.
Paul doesn't know what to make of what she just said. Why would she want to know more about him? He thought. Had that been her original intent when she called him over there?
"I asked around some about you but most of the people didn't really know all that much. They mainly knew about things they had read on the internet or heard on television. You seem like a really nice guy and I guess I'm just curious to know more about you." She says with a smile.
"Like are you married? I mean I saw you without a wedding ring on your finger but you could have taken it off. Do you have any children? Why would you choose to live down here when you are mega rich and could live anywhere? Hell I bet you could live on the Moon or Mars or something like that electric car guy wants to. That got me to thinking, if you are this super rich and attractive guy, then how do we all know you aren't this ultra-evil villain or something? I mean how do we know you aren't planning to murder us all and harvest our organs or something?" Jade nervously gets out.
Her questions seemed to come out of left field and he is taken aback. Granted he has done little to quiet those very questions that he was sure were shared by more than a few of the other residents. The whole idea of the bunker project had seemed far-fetched even from the beginning. It was the reason the board fought him on nearly everything and he was forced to give them most of the control when it was nearing completion. If it had stayed purely up to them the whole thing would have been scrapped or turned into some sort of luxury condos for the ultra-rich.
"No I'm not married. I was at one point as I'm sure you read online or heard from some of the others. I lost my wife in a tragic accident and lost my future child with her as well. As to why I would choose to live here instead of in some bloated mega mansion somewhere, well I truly believe in what this bunker was built for. You see, I see the way the world was moving and it was traveling into a direction that could only lead to mass destruction. It wouldn't take much, hell it wouldn't even take a great tragedy for it to happen. Everyone is so at each other's throats that the smallest thing could set everything off. I wanted this place to exist so that through all of that, somehow humanity could still survive. I know that makes me sound like a crazy person but it's how I truly feel." He explains.
"Now am I some mad murderer or something, no. Yes I have or had a lot of money and people generally assume that rich people are crazy, which I'm sure some probably are but I can tell you with a clear conscience that, that isn't me. Hell I just wanted to live here as just another person but I knew I couldn't fully trust the people who run my company to take care of things, so I had no choice but to take on a leadership role here." Paul finally finished.
Jade felt relieved because she thought he would never open up to her like that and had expected him to get upset by what she said. Her nerves seemed to calm as he explained his reasoning behind everything and she seemed more relaxed around him now.
One thing that seemed to play over and over in his head was when he said 'I'm not married'. It was as if all the other things she had said was just shelf dressing and that was what she had wanted to know all along. She had been thinking about him non-stop since he left her alone in that dreary quarantine room.
