THE BET
CHAPTER 1
Friday afternoon. Billy Jarrett and Don Bryce sat in the living room at Billy's parent's house watching some mindless drivel on the TV. They had been friends since second grade when Don's family had moved into the neighborhood. That was 10 years ago. They went all through school together, played together, studied together, and played football for their high school together. And sometimes double-dated. They were pretty much inseparable.
School had just ended and they had both graduated. They had a 3 month break before college started. But neither one was playing for college. Unfortunately they weren't that good.
Billy's mom came down the steps carrying a laundry basket full of dirty clothes and passed through the living room on her way to the laundry room. Don looked up at her as she passed through, and said, "Hi, Mrs. J. You look lovely today."
"Hi, Don," she replied. "And thank you. How's your mom?"
Ann Jarrett and Don's mom, Donna Bryce, were friends, also. But they didn't spend as much time together as the boys did.
"She's fine," he replied. "I think she's doing laundry today, too."
"Must be the day for it, I guess," Ann said. "Tell her I said Hi. And how are you?"
"I'm good," Don said. "A little bored, maybe. What with no school and no more football practice."
"I'm sure you'll find something to occupy your time," Ann replied. "You guys enjoy your show. I got work to do. A woman's work is never done."
Don chuckled and said, " Yeah, I guess not. You have good day."
"Thanks," she said and headed to the laundry room.
Don watched her go. He had had a crush on Ann Jarrett since he was 15. Now, at 18, he was a walking hormone. He thought Mrs. J. always looked good, even working around the house. She was dressed today in red shorts, and a white tank top. Nothing fancy. But Damn! Her ass looked great in those shorts, and the top showed her breasts off very nicely.
When she was gone, Don said,"Dude. I'm sorry. But your mom is fuckin' HOT!"
Billy exclaimed, "Dude! That's my mom!"
"I know," Don said. "But Damn! You had to have noticed."
"No. I haven't," Billy argued. "I admit, she's pretty, but I don't look at her that way. She's my mom."
Ann was very pretty. She had Billy when she was 18, so she was only 36 now. About 5' 8''. 120 lbs. Semi-long black hair. A body to die for. Billy thought she probably had a boob job. But, no, they were all natural, and spectacular. She had been head cheerleader in school, prom queen, and won several beauty pageants.
Ann got her load of laundry started and came back to the kitchen. She called out, "You boys want some lunch?"
"What do we got?" asked Billy.
"I'm starving," answered Billy.
"I can warm up some stew left over from last night, and make a grilled cheese, if you like," Ann answered.
"Whatever," said Billy.
"Sounds great!" Don said. "I'll help you make the sandwiches."
Don got up and went into the kitchen. "Just sit. You don't have to help," Ann said.
Don said, "It's the least I can do. It's not your job to take care of me. I'm practically a grown man. And you have plenty of other stuff to do. I want to help."
"That's so sweet," Ann replied. "I wish your manners would rub off on Billy a little."
The truth was Don just wanted to be close to her. He was willing to do whatever was necessary to do that.
"So. What can I do?" Don asked.
"Okay. If you want to get the tupperware bowl of stew out of the fridge, and dump it in a pot to warm, I'll make the grilled cheese sandwiches," Ann smiled and said. "This is wonderful. Having some help. Thank you, Don." She touched his arm as she said this, giving him a thrill.
"My pleasure," he replied. "Where can I find a pot for the stew?"
"Look in that cabinet door right beside the stove," she told him.
Don enjoyed standing right beside Ann as she toasted the sandwiches on the stovetop in a skillet and he stirred the stew. Especially when their hips touched briefly a time or two.
When lunch was ready Ann called Billy to come and eat. She put the stew in 2 bowls and the grilled cheese on 2 plates and sat them on the table. She told them to get whatever they wanted to drink out of the fridge.
Don asked," Aren't you eating anything, Mrs. J?"
She replied, "Not now. I'm meeting Joyce for lunch at the deli." Joyce was another friend of her's she had recently met.
Don was disappointed. He and Billy got sodas and sat down to eat. Ann went upstairs to change clothes to go meet Joyce.
As they were eating Billy asked,"What the hell are you doing? Hitting on my mom?"
"No!" Don said. "I was just being nice."
"Yeah. Sure. You're not that nice a guy. You're a total horndog," Billy said.
"Okay. I admit, I DO kinda have a thing for your mom," Don admitted. "She's a total MILF!"
"As if you'd have any chance with her," Billy said. "Mom doesn't fuck around with anybody. And especially not with you!"
Don knew Billy was right. But he liked to fantasize about it anyway. And her husband's gone all the time. Maybe she gets lonely? Billy's dad, William, was a lawyer at a big firm up in DC. He stayed there all week and came home on weekends.
"I know," said Don dejectedly. "But a boy can dream, can't he?"
CHAPTER 2
They finished eating, rinsed their dishes, and put them in the dishwasher. Billy asked, "Whatcha wanna do now?"
"Let's get in the pool," Don said. "It's hot."
They changed into their swim trunks and dove into the pool. Then they lay on floats and soaked up the sun.
After a while, Billy said cautiously, "You know? I kinda got a thing for your mom, too. She's really pretty."
