There are points in your life when you know that things are going to change. Some are really small really trivial things and others can a total hairpin curve on the direction your life was going in. Waking up I could already tell this one going to be one of those points. My alarm woke me up in the morning so I could go to work, but I had that whole feels like you've got hair all over your tongue things going on so I decided to stop and grab some coffee. Just as I was walking in I accidentally bumped into this girl and made her drop her cup. "Oh my god I am so sorry, here let me help you with that." I said grabbing tissues and bending down to help her.
"Hey no big deal it was an accident," she replied.
"Well let me get you a new drink, that's the least I can do." I used my best sincere voice
"Well that would be very nice, my name's Emily."
"Pleasure to meet you Emily, the names Lee." I announced
We walked back up to the counter and I bought us drinks. I told her I had to get to work and left on that note. God damnit! I should have asked for her number! I'm always like this when it comes to women, stupid and clumsy. I went through the whole day thinking about her and what could have been. I decided to go talk to my buddy Zach about it. I really should have mentioned it earlier but Zach and I are both really close friends and residents at a hospital in Columbus. A resident is a one step above intern and one below real doctor.
"Hey Zach you got a minute, I need to talk to you about something." I said as I approached him in the break room.
"You need help with a patient?" he asked me
"No, I, well I did it again." I struggled with the words
"Did what again?" he had no idea what I was talking about
"Well this morning at the coffee shop I met this pretty girl who seemed to be into me and I just blew her off and came here." I admitted to him
"Oh my god, you're a real Casanova aren't you. How many times are you going to do this before you learn? When that happens get the girls number, remember my first rule?" he asked me
"Always get the number" I chanted in an emotionless voice
Zach is what you would call a ladies man and always has a girlfriend. In medical school he was the one who partied hard and I was the one who studied hard, it's always been like that since I can remember. But as a result I'm the better doctor and I never let him forget it. When you work at a hospital as a doctor you need help from a lot of different people. So as a result you become friends with a lot of people. Other than Zach my best friend at the hospital was a nurse named Jenna. She was one of the few women I felt comfortable around and we hung out regularly.
"Hey Jen I'm gonna need Mr. Burke's vitals and could you get a CT on Mrs. Reid?" I asked her, I was really swamped today and needed all the help I could get.
"Sure...hey Lee, could you please come out with me to a party tonight. I just wanna go out and I don't need guys hitting on me all night. Plus I'm pretty sure you could use a night on the town as much as I could." She said to me
I had to think for about half a second before replying, "Sure I'll go with you, you're probably the only girl I'll be going out with any time soon anyways." Man this coffee girl thing was really getting to me.
"Hey I know what I know what we can do. Tonight we are gonna find you a woman. I'll help you find some hot chick you can screw all night long." That is exactly what I loved about Jenna, she was just like one of the guys.
"You're too good to me, you do know that right. Fine we'll go on a chick mission tonight. As soon as we get off work we'll go." I told her as I walked away
I went through rounds and finished my day pretty ordinary. At least according to Jenna I had a night of meaningless sex to look forward to. But she and I both knew I didn't do that. I always feel guilty for like a week every time I have a one-night stand. I met Jenna at the entrance to the hospital and we set out on our mission.
"You should stay in your scrubs tonight, it'll help with the ladies." She told me
