The following day, Monday was a day off for most employees to represent the July 4th holiday which happened to have fallen on Saturday that year. Accordingly, Chantal and Sonia drove back to St Louis as Chantal would be working the next day.
Likewise, Erica along with Vivian and Maia drove back to Chicago. They arrived in mid afternoon ahead of the time when Rod along with children would arrive from Charlotte, NC. Once again during the trip Erica voiced her concern regarding her dissatisfaction with her marital sex life. Vivian and Maia had no concrete constructive advice to offer, and so they just endured absorbing Erica's complaints.
About three hours after their own arrival, Rod along with Charlie and Rose arrived from North Carolina. Also arriving separately, in his own vehicle, a Cadillac SUV, was Tony Koeninger, the eldest son of Erica and Rod. Tony explained that normally with his scheduled commitment with his NFL team, he had invariably missed out the semi annual visits to America by his Estonian aunt and cousin. This year the start camp for the ensuing new NFL season was delayed by a week, so that he was in a position to come to Chicago this time to take the opportunity of meeting his Estonian relatives.
Now Rod and for that matter Charlie and Rose, were not privy to Tony's and Maia's romantic rendezvous of the past March. Thus, they took Tony's explanation for wanting to come to Chicago at face value. However, his mother as well as Vivian and Maia suspected that Tony's ulterior was to arrange another tryst with Maia. The latter visibly blushed upon hearing Tony's stated purpose as became excited at the prospect of another engagement of lovemaking with her breathtaking impressive black cousin.
Thus not unexpectedly, at the first opportunity in having a private conversation with Maia, he proposed a date at Erica's, his mother's restaurant/nighyclub. Left unsaid but telepathically via mutual understanding, a night of sex would follow the diner and show. In reply, Maia suggested that they could double date with her mother and Jed on Wednesday night.
Tony displayed an impatient look at what he viewed as an unnecessary distraction by including Maia's mother and her date to their evening entertainment. Maia recognizing Tony's hesitation assured him, "Relax Tony. My Mom and Jed have their own agenda. They'll probably want to forgo the show for their own private merriment. On the other hand, I do want to see the show before we do 'other things'*, (*air quote) So we won't be disturbed by their presence and will probably enjoy their company."
That Wednesday night Erica was doing a rare stint in supervising the restaurant, since Abbie Van Buren, her scheduled general manager had called off sick. Likewise Rod was working the bar of the first floor sports bar facility of the total establishment of Erica's. Erica and Rod in essence were needed as a result of shortage of staff as those who worked the busy holiday weekend were given Tuesday and Wednesday off.
Both Rose and Charlie stayed home that night having completed their normal work day employment. Rose was employed as a receptionist and file clerk in a doctor's office. Charlie, having graduated from the University of Illinois, found employment with an ad agency located in the Willis Tower formerly known as the Sears Tower. Since both of them started work early the next day they were neither in the mood to go out, especially in a mid week night.
Erica saw to it that Vivian and Jed along with Tony and Maia were seated at the best suitable table in the room and attended to by her most efficient server, Cheryl Pace. Since the meal would be comped, and a bill not presented, Cheryl was promised that a tip of twenty-five per cent of the menu price would be added to her next paycheck. This in turn inspired Cheryl to provide exceptional service especially in the speed of serving drinks. Consequently, Maia enjoyed imbibing two orders of Grey Goose on the rocks before the arrival of the ordered appetizers.
In their travels to the Wimbledon tournament in London and thereafter, to the Wisconsin farm and the Koeninger's residence in Chicago, Maia and Vivian traveled with an adequate but sparse clothing supply. Thus, for this date on the day before, they took time to shop at a trendy woman's department store in Chicago to acquire a suitable dress for the occasion. Accordingly, Maia purchased a wine red colored, chiffon fabric, short sleeve, lace panel, knee length, cocktail party dress. Vivian opted for an evening dress, polyester fabric, mint green colored, short sleeve, boat neckline, cut high in the front and low in the back.
Both women looked absolutely stunning and the heads of the patrons turned as they strolled into the restaurant. Mind you as Jed Baxter was a well known figure in Chicago, a natural buzz was the inevitable result of their entrance in any case. Although Vivian was thirty years older than her daughter, her youthful looks suggested that the pair of them were not out of place when appearing together in an auspicious social setting.
During the meal there ensued convivial conversation. Jed volunteered that through Vivian he was acquainted with Tony's parents and avowed that he along with Vivian had double dated with them once. So, now he pointed out the remarkable coincidence of double dating with the next generation.
Tony was able to deduce that by recounting the circumstances of the former double date, Jed was intimating that his parents had indulged in a foursome group sex with him and Vivian. This led Tony to think, 'Surely he isn't suggesting that our double date would transpire into replicating the aforementioned double date with his parents. Why now his date is the mother of my date.' But then he realized that on that previous occasion Jed's date and his father's date were sisters, So. apparently incest was not a taboo to participating in their debauchery.
To clear the air, Tony said, "To be sure it is a coincidence but not too unexpected considering the familial ties. In any case, I'm certain our double date will most likely differ in outcome than that of your previous double date."
Ignoring the not so subtle implication of Tony's remark, Jed changed the subject to expound on his admiration of Tony's father when he was a player with the Chicago Bears. Jed in his capacity as the head of Baxter and Sons had possession of a corporate luxury box suite which contained twenty seats available to view the games in an extravagant style. As a result, he had attended many of the Chicago Bears games and saw Tony's father in live action.
In this regard, in addressing Tony mainly, Jed was able to add, "One particular game I saw your father play, which I fondly remember, occurred during a Monday night game following the Thanksgiving holiday and subsequent weekend. I sort of remember that the opposing team was the New York Giants, but I can no longer recall which team won the contest. However, what I do remember of the game was that Vivian and I had the whole Baxter and Sons luxury box suite to ourselves. And we did not just watch the game."
Vivian hurriedly interrupted, "And whatever you two can imagine as to what might have happened, well it did happen. So, Jed, darling, I can see that you have finished your meal as so have I. So let us make a quick exit, and let the youngsters enjoy the rest of the evening unhindered by us oldsters and our reminiscences of our ancient past."
