Since Jed Baxter and Vivian Laaning were recognized by everyone at Maia's victory party celebration as an established couple, it was not surprising that they were the first couple to exit the party to the bedroom allocated for Vivian's stay at the hotel. Vivian had first met Jed Baxter when she was twenty-two and he was forty-three at the wedding of his cousin, Angela Black. Vivian was Angela's maid of honor, and he gave the bride away in lieu of Angela's deceased father. Consequently, they were paired together at the rehearsal dinner and also at the wedding reception.
As a result of their racy conversation at that dinner, an assignation was mutually arranged. The ensuing sexual activity proved to be so satisfactory for Jed that he gifted to Vivian a lifetime membership for Vivian to the TLR plus twenty free passes to attend periodically the club's scheduled orgies.
They both recognized that this tryst was a one night stand. However, a little more than four years later, after Maia had finished law school and was employed by Kirkland, Mayer & McDermott, premier Chicago law firm, they met again at a fund raiser event for the hospital in Chicago, the same one in which Maia was later destined to be born. From that meeting, they embarked on a rather torrid affair that lasted almost three years. As evidence of Jed's infatuation with Vivian he advanced, unasked, a substantial amount of money to help assist Erica to establish her nightclub/restaurant.
During this affair, Vivian was of the opinion that Jed would eventually tire of her and move on to another mistress. Therefore, Vivian decided if she was going to ultimately benefit from this relationship she might as well try to get pregnant by him. In any case, she wanted to become a mother as she believed it was as good a time as any in her life to get pregnant. Besides being a single mother was not an anathema to her. More importantly in her deliberations, was the notion that at least by giving birth, she would perforce become a significant woman in his life. This would distinguish herself from the plethora of the other women with whom he was having sexual relations because his wife, Felicia, was frigid and did not enjoy sex. Positively, Jed was a man Vivian couldn't help but admire enough and who she believed would make a great father to her child. Consequently, she did not utilize any birth control protection throughout the affair, but she didn't get pregnant.
Felicia became alarmed at the intensity of this affair, and its prolonged duration. There seemed to be no end in sight. More unsettlingly was the fact that he was exclusive with Vivian during this entire time. Vivian was even his plus one for some public functions, which she for one reason or other reason was unable to attend; Vivian was the only woman to have ever been accorded such partiality. On such occasions when with Vivian in lieu of Felicia, his explanation to all and sundry who might ask, was that Vivian as an attorney at the law firm he retained for his business, was the suitable ideal substitute for his wife who unfortunately could not attend the particular event in question.
Given such disturbing developments, Felicia, arranged a luncheon date with Vivian in an attempt to induce Vivian to quit seeing Jed. Vivian was not dissuaded by Felicia's assertion that Jed would not end their marriage, because Vivian was content to remain as his permanent mistress. Likewise, the suggestion that Jed would eventually move on to another mistress held no sway in Vivian's mind as she was prepared to accept such possibility. However, when Felicia then advised that Jed had undergone a vasectomy operation, it was that fact that induced Vivian to end the affair.
To ensure that Vivian would quit her affair with Jed, Felicia invited her to a cocktail party where Vivian could meet some eligible bachelors. There Vivian met Sam Crawford who was the CFO of Baxter & Sons. She subsequently became pregnant by him, and so married him, but he was arrested for embezzlement within a couple of hours after they had exchanged their wedding vows. Sam was murdered four days later in jail while awaiting his trial, and so Maia was subsequently born fatherless. Vivian was also fired from her law firm, since Baxter & Sons was a very important client of the firm, and thus. it was an unforgivable conflict of interest for Vivian to represent Sam, notwithstanding that she was married to him.
After such tragic turn of events in her life, Vivian, with Maia in tow, went on a vacation to Estonia and met Eino Tarvas, with whom she married after a few dates. Consequently, Estonia became Vivian's new country of residence, and as a result Maia became mainly an Estonian citizen despite having been born in the United States.
Jed's wife was frigid as a consequence of suffering continuous sexual abuse by her own father, starting from when she was eight years old, and ending only upon his death when she was sixteen. In addition, Felicia had been gang raped by three high school class mates when she was seventeen. Although she pressed rape charges, at the subsequent trial her rapists were acquitted. Their allegations that the sexual activities in question were consensual was believed over her testimony. Not surprisingly, with such a horrific experience in her past, Felicia had developed a strong aversion to sex, which absolutely subdued her natural libido.
Although Felicia never refused to having sex with Jed, and they did have two children from the marriage, she was never aroused, nor did she ever display any enthusiasm. In emotion, it was a hundred and eighty degrees opposite to the joy he always experienced in his sexual trysts with Vivian. As a result, Felicia and Jed came to an agreement, whereby Felicia would overlook his adulteries and so their occasions for marital sex became increasingly infrequent. After Felicia had successfully engineered the break-up of Vivian's affair with Jed, she realized how close she had come to losing Jed, so she became even more vigilant.
Felicia believed that so long as Jed did not confine himself to one particular woman for a prolonged period of time her marriage was safe. But right after his three year fling with Vivian, Jed took up an exclusive affair with Vera Starikovich, the forensic accountant who Jed had hired and who uncovered Sam's embezzlement scheme which he had engineered while he was the CFO at Baxter & Sons. Felicia realized it was a close call in averting the affair with Vivian. She knew she had to do something desperate to avoid losing Jed because of her inability to participate in sex with genuine joy and exuberance.
Consequently, once she learned that Jed had become exclusive with this Ms Starikovich, she knew she had to rid herself of her aversion to sex. Accordingly, Felicia consulted a sexologist specializing in sexual dysfunction. After several months of determined therapy and special sexual exercises, Felicia was able to provide Jed with a surprise present for their seventeenth wedding anniversary: herself!
With the benefit of her dysfunction therapy, Felicia was indeed able for the first time in her life to be sexual and more importantly she learned how to enjoy herself! As a result, Felicia and Jed had the best sex they ever had that night and as a result Jed unceremoniously dumped Ms Vera Starikovich as his mistress. Then for about six months Jed and Felicia were monogamous, Jed didn't even attend a TLR orgy, although he remained a member.
Apparently though, Felicia's new found hot sexual desires did not last. Having gotten rid of Vera Starikovich as a threat to her marriage with Jed Baxter, her main impetus for engaging in enthusiastic sex had dissipated. At least she no longer found sex distasteful, and she no longer acted woodenly during her sexual intimacy with Jed. Still her main focus and interest in her life had to do with being Jed's wife and all that it entails considering his prominence.
As Jed's wife, Felicia was heavily involved in a myriad of charity works and other equivalent high societal functions. Such activity kept her mind occupied that as a result her sexual interest was secondary. Except for that anniversary night Felicia never initiated sexual acts with Jed. Her attitude or desire for sex was akin by analogy to her love for classical music. She enjoyed attending concerts of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and she and Jed had box seats for the season performances at Orchestra Hall. But if she missed a particular concert, it was a no never mind as she had other joys in her life; sex with Jed being among them.
