Late October

Year 4 of Us

Halloween

The twins were excited, because this was the first Halloween party that we hosted, and the first one that they understood the concept. Well, partially, at least. They were wearing their costumes when the doorbell rang, and they beat me to the door.

Sherlock and LB beat me there, too, of course, but they were better behaved than my daughter and son, who were jumping up and down.

"Duncan! Sam!" I said firmly. They looked at me, smiling. I had to remain firm. "Please step away from the door so that our guests can come in." I pointed to an area beyond the dogs.

Still smiling at me, they moved to where I had pointed. "Thank you, my little princess and my little cowboy." Duncan took his hat off and Sam gave me a sort of curtsey, so I smiled and winked.

Opening the door, I found Erica, Travis, and all three of their kids, smiling. "Wrangling dogs?" Erica asked, sweeping in to give me a kiss.

"No, wrangling kids. No quite as difficult as herding cats, but it's close."

Travis laughed as he followed the three kids inside and we shook hands. "I know the feeling."

I looked at him. "Do you have stuff to bring in?"

"With her? What do you think?"

"Give me a minute." I stepped past the few early guests and looked at Erica. She got what I wanted immediately, so she urged all of the kids to go to the toy area. I went quickly to find Lacey, who was in the kitchen talking with Roni. I touched her shoulder and leaned closer. "Erica and the rest are here."

Lacey turned, a big smile on her face. "Great!" She turned to Roni. "Watch the oven?"

When Roni nodded, Lacey went gliding out into the great room. I followed, enjoying the view of her behind moving under the dress of her costume.

She paused for a moment, her hand reaching back for me. I took it and she urged me up to her. "Are you watching my ass?" her voice was light.

"Every chance that I get, my prin... err... my queen."

She giggled and she lifted her free hand to the crown she was wearing. "Is this too much?"

I shook my head. "No. You're beautiful. You're the queen of my heart."

We had almost reached Erica and Travis, but she stopped and turned to look at me. "What did you say?"

"I said that you are the queen of my heart." She looked up at me, her eyes bright. I put a finger up to one of her eyes. "No crying, Beloved."

"I'm not going to cry, but you amaze me, mister." She used her free hand to pull my face to hers and kissed me lightly and quickly. With that, we turned back and then Lacey took Erica in her arms and gave her a kiss, before repeating the process with Travis.

Erica had removed the cloak she had been wearing and I took in her costume. Flesh toned body suit, sexy strapped outfit, horns, wings, and a tail.

"Succubus?"

She smiled. "Right on the first try," she added, licking her lips.

"Promises, promises," Lacey and I said at the same time, which made her and Erica giggle. "I'm going to help Travis bring stuff in." Luckily, it turned out that there were only two bags and a decent sized box, so we were able to bring everything in without extra trips.

Once inside, Erica directed that one bag and the box were to go to wherever the food was going to be set, and the other was for the kids.

I took the box to the dining room table, where Cathy was placing a tray of something that smelled delicious. She looked at me and grinned. "Like the smell?"

I nodded and she giggled. "They're Roni's chicken hand pies."

"Chicken hand pies?"

"Yes," replied Roni, coming in behind me. "They're like pasties, but with chicken and rice."

"Spicy?"

"Oh, no," Roni shook her head as she put a small card in front of the platter. She walked over to me, and leaned in. With a lick of her lips, she raised up and kissed me, her tongue slipping into my mouth. Before I could put arms around her, she stepped away and grinned. "That kiss was spicier than the hand pies!"

Cathy looked into the box and began pulling things out. Delicious smelling things, too. Each had a card, and she moved around the table setting them in some order. Lacey walked into the dining room, holding hands with Mir.

"I'm glad you put in the table leaves, Wyatt." I nodded.

"Is there going to be more food?" I looked at Lacey as Cathy took my hand.

Lacey shook her head. "Not as far as I know." She leaned closer. "Go get into costume, love." I looked at all three of my loves, then nodded.

"I'm glad mine is fairly easy." Cathy was in a version of her cat make-up and wearing a sleek body suit that didn't hide her tummy bulge, at all, while Mir was in some anime character costume that was mostly armor and a short skirt. I looked at her and tilted my head. "Is that my sword?"

She shook her head. "No, it's light foam. I don't think that I could handle your claymore."

Lacey broke into the giggles. "You handle his claymore all the time!"

Mir blushed. "You know what I mean!" She was smiling, though, so she wasn't that embarrassed. I took her face in my hand and gently kissed her.

"So, what character are you?"

"Erza Scarlet, from Fairy Tail."

I just smiled. "I have no idea who that is, but if she looks like you, she's amazing!" Mir blushed a bit more.

Lacey laughed. "Kiss her, already and go get your costume on!'

"Yes, Your Majesty!" I grinned and gave her a deep bow.

She giggled and gave me one of those looks. "I could learn to like this behavior!"

I grabbed her and pulled her to me. "You'd better like it, Beloved!" I kissed her and headed for the stairs. As I went up, I saw that Roni was dressed as a mouse, so I expected that there would be some hilarity between her and Cathy.

Once I got changed, I wandered back down and looked for Lacey. Her back was to me when I found her near the fireplace, chatting with Tina and a couple of ladies that I didn't recognize. Tina grinned, which made Lacey spin around.

She squealed with pleasure and nearly launched herself into my arms. She stopped short, then placed her hand on my chest. "I'm sorry, my Highlander. You looked terrified just then." She leaned her forehead against me. "I'll never hurt you, you know that, right?"

"Yes, beloved, I know it." I wrapped my arms around her and held her close for a few moments. Suddenly, there were lots of people trying to get into our hug. I started snickering as I felt Cathy's tummy press into my side, and then Mir was behind Lacey, a big smile on her face. More people joined in, and I saw Travis behind Mir, resting his chin on her head.

A few moments later, the hug broke when Travis bent over. When he stood up, he had Princess Sam in his arms and then Erica was holding Princess Amanda up so that she could see what was going on.

Lacey waved her hands over her head, and everyone went quiet. She looked around, then found one of the twins' stools and stepped up onto it. "Thank you, everybody, for coming to our debut Halloween party. We have plenty of food, everything has placards about the dish, so enjoy." She looked around. "We do have littles here, so behave while they're downstairs. They'll be going to bed around eight, so don't get carried away too soon."

She dropped from the stool, pulled my face down, and kissed me. A tug at the bottom of my kilt got my attention. I broke the kiss with Lacey and looked down at Duncan. "What do you need, cowboy?"

"Eat, Dada. Hungry!" He looked from me to the table. I lifted him up, and he grinned at me. "Lots hungry!"

"Lots hungry?" He nodded, then I saw that Sam and Amanda were nodding, too.

"Okay, hang on a second." I looked at the table. "Nate? Paul?"

"Yes?" They were behind their dad.

"Are y'all ready to eat?"

"Yessir!"

"Okay, then." I look at Lacey. "Let's feed them, then we'll see what else happens."

She smiled at me as she moved off to talk to some of the other guests. I led the way, with Travis and Erica following me. Their boys stayed near Erica, and we got enough food for the time being. Cathy was behind Erica, watching while she smiled.

"Cathy, love, would please get them some milk in their mugs?"

"Mama Catty? Please?" Duncan smiled at her, and she dimpled.

"Of course I will, my little cowboy! And my big Highlander"

We gathered some food, then headed for the kitchen. I was surprised to see Lacey and Mir already there, smiling at us. "Their seats are ready!" Mir said.

We got their plates down, settled all three of the youngest into their seats, and then Lacey walked over to me. "If you help them, I'll get us a couple of plates," she said into my ear.

"Thank you, my princess!" I smiled at her, and she returned it. Once again, no matter where we were, her smile made my life brighter. She kissed me and walked off, with Mir following closely.

Erica watched as Mir walked away, then looked at me. "Congratulations, Wyatt."

I was helping Sam get her plate set, so I looked up and said, "Huh?"

"I said, congratulations, Wyatt."

"For what?"

Erica snickered. "She's pregnant."

"Who?"

More snickers, this time with Cathy joining in. "Your redhead."

"Are you sure?"

"Ask her when they come back with your plates." Erica just smiled, then turned to help Amanda. Nate and Paul were busy eating, but Nate paused long enough to grin at me. I suspected that he knew what was going on in our house, but there wasn't much that could be done to avoid that.

A few minutes later, Lacey and Mir came in, Lacey balancing three plates while Mir had one in each hand. She set one at where she was sitting, then handed the other to Travis. She took one plate from Lacey, handed it to Erica, then handed another one to me.

We ate, with our guests wandering through, pausing to chat or simply gather something to drink. There was a pause in the movement, then Erica said, "Ask her."

"Ask who what?" was Lacey's response.

I shook my head, then looked at the redhead, who was smiling slightly. "Mir, Erica says that you're pregnant. Are you?"

"Maybe." Then there were five slight smiles facing me.

"Maybe?"

She nodded. "I missed, but you know that doesn't mean that much."

"Yeah, okay." I looked into her eyes. "Is it okay if I get a little excited?"

"You'd better be a little excited, mister," said Lacey. She smiled, that big, wide, sun on the horizon smile. Suddenly, there were lots of big smiles around that table.

"You look bemused, Wyatt," Travis said.

I looked at my friend, then smiled. "I have to admit it."

"Admit what?" Cathy smiled at me, as she once again caressed her bulging tummy.

"I'm excited. Thrilled. And a little scared."

"Why are you scared?" Mir's voice was alarmed.

"The usual reasons. Will you be okay throughout the pregnancy? Will the baby be okay?" Mir's eyes started to water. I stood up and crossed behind Lacey to get to her. I bent over and hugged her. "Why the tears, sweetheart?"

"You love me!"

That startled me. I got her to stand up while I hugged her. "I certainly love you, Miriam Lee. I would never have agreed to try for a baby if I didn't love you."

I held her while she cried for a few moments.

"Mama Mir-yam sad?" Sam was concerned.

"No, Sam. Mommy Miriam is happy." Lacey told her gently.

"Oh! Happy tears?" Sam sounded relieved.

Mir pulled away and wrapped her arms around Sam from behind. "Yes, Sam! I'm happy!"

"Good!" Then Sam went back to finishing her food.

After finishing their food, the kids headed back to the toy area, which I noticed had been blocked off by a couple of chairs and a hassock. I looked at Lacey and pointed. "Your idea?"

She shook her head. "Nate's."

"That's impressive." She nodded, and Travis did, too.

Throughout the evening, I noticed that everyone in our family, and Erica and Travis, rotated in to be near the kids. I smiled as I took my place, sitting beside Duncan, who was playing with Paul and a couple of fire engines. I looked over at Sam, who was sitting by Nate. He was gently talking with her. Sam's eyes started to flutter, and Nate noticed.

He looked around and saw me. He waved his hand to get my attention and used hand signs to tell me that she was sleepy. I nodded, then looked around myself. Roni was scooting towards me, squeaking and smiling. I put my hand out and she stopped.

"What's up?"

"Sam's starting to fade Do you know where Lacey is?" She nodded just as a hand landed on my shoulder.

"I'm right here, my old cowboy," came the soft voice.

"Good. Sam's starting to fade."

"I figured as much." Lacey sounded amused. When I turned to look at her, I saw Erica closing in on us.

"It's amazing. Both moms are here." I grinned at Erica as she stopped beside Lacey.

"I was figuring that Amanda was fading." She looked over and smiled. "Both little girls are."

"Duncan is, too," added Roni. I checked, and he was blinking to stay awake.

"Okay," I stood. "How are we doing this?"

"Simple." Lacey stepped past the hassock. "I'll take Duncan, Wyatt'll take Sam..."

"And I'll take Amanda," added Erica.

So, we did, and it was amazing how many of our guests said goodnight to the littlest ones, as well as Nate and Paul. Once upstairs, Lacey led the way towards the twins' room.

"No baths?" Lacey shook her head.

"We've put the big boys in the next room down, and once everyone is in their PJs, it'll be story time."

"Story?" Sam asked, her face in my neck.

"Yes, my little princess. Story time. Is that good?"

She nodded and we soon had everyone ready for bed. Lacey sat in the overstuffed chair we had set by the window and started to read. I was on the floor, as was Erica. Tina slipped in and Duncan went directly to her as she sat on the floor.

"I'm here, Aunt Tina," he said softly.

"I see," she held out her arms and he crawled between, settling himself in her lap.

Amanda and Sam surprised me, though, with Amanda wanting into my lap while Sam wanted Erica. We shrugged, and settled the girls down as Lacey began to read.

The time passed gently and then Lacey looked up. "I think that they're all asleep."

I looked over and Erica's sons were slouched against the wall. Lacey smiled and stood up. She took Duncan from Tina, who stood and took Amanda from me. I repeated the process with Sam while Erica gently roused the boys. They were herded out by Erica as we settled the littles onto the beds, with Sam and Amanda in the same bed.

We met Erica in the hall, and Lacey grinned before they kissed.

"I'm glad that we all have the monitor app on our phone. I'll keep watch," I said as we made our way to the stairs.

Lacey shook her head as she closed the upper gate behind us. "That's not fair, love."

I shrugged. "It's fine. I know how excited you are about this party. I don't mind."

"Are you sure?"

I nodded. "Go play, Beloved." She smiled at me and moved off amongst the guests.

"Why'd you do that, Wyatt?" Tina was curious.

"I know how she is, Tina. She wants to taste, and I don't necessarily have that urge." I wandered off, noticing that the toys had been picked up and stored away, giving more floor space for the adults.

I saw two different couples making out, the lighting dimmer than it had been. One was Lance with a woman in a wench's outfit, whom I didn't recognize. I stopped by the end table and turned on some music, picking "Lacey's Party" for the playlist.

As I moved around towards the kitchen, Roni was standing by the corner. She extended her hand, and I took it. "How are you doing, little mousie?"

She smiled. "Pretty good. I know that things might get a little spicier, now that the kids are asleep." She looked at me as I poured some tea for myself, then nodded when I offered her some. "You know, Lacey has told us to keep an eye on you." I stared at her, and she sighed. "This is what, your second adult party with her?"

"Yeah, the first was at Erica's the year we moved into this place."

"I missed that one, but I know what has happened before." She looked up at me.

"You're feeling a little out of place, aren't you?" I nodded and she leaned against me. "I'm here," she said softly.

"I'm here, too," Cathy said from behind me, her hand caressing my back. She pressed herself against my side and I watched as she kissed Roni. "I finally caught the little mousie," she laughed. I caressed their faces, one at a time, and they both smiled. "You're not alone, Wyatt. You're not an outsider."

"I know. I just feel... weird." That was the best word I could think of. "I know that she loves to play. With women. And other men."

"And you're not jealous?" I heard Erica's voice and looked up to see her leaning on the island.

I shrugged. "I don't think so... I mean, I trust her, and I love her, with all my heart and soul."

"But you don't trust people you don't really know."

"Exactly!"

There was a gentle laugh from behind Cathy, and I heard my heart's love. I turned my head and there she was, smiling that "I Love You" smile.

"I was talking with people, getting invitations to play. It felt different this time." She walked around Cathy and wormed her way in beside Roni. Lacey looked up at me, that smile still shining.

"Different?" Travis asked as he came up behind Erica, wrapping his arms around her.

"Yes." Lacey nodded. "Like I was missing something."

"Or, maybe, someone?" Erica was looking intently at Lacey, who quickly looked at her friend.

"Yes! That's it!" Lacey turned back to me and buried her face in my chest. "I was missing someone very special!"

I kissed the top of her head, then I felt hands moving under my kilt. "Okay, whose hands are those?"

"Hands?" Lacey looked at me, puzzled.

"Yes, there are two hands under my kilt!"

"Those are mine," Cathy confessed. "Your Kitty-cat wants some cream!" She giggled.

"Besides, I always wondered about..."

"Am I commando under it?"

"Yesssss...!"

"My rule is simple. Ten bucks or a deep kiss, and you can find out!"

"Take the kiss option," urged Lacey, smiling.

"Oh, I will take that option of payment!" Roni moved a bit, letting Cathy get into position for a kiss. While we kissed, I felt Cathy's hands moving up my leg. She learned what she wanted to learn, then pulled away from the kiss. She grinned at me and started to speak.

"No, no, no, little girl!" I grinned. "If any others want to know, they have to pay."

Three of our guests stuck their heads around the end of the wall. "I think that we're going to head out," said the wench that Lance had been making out with. I realized that he was standing behind her, along with a woman that I didn't recognize.

We broke up the hug and walked over to say goodbye. Once the first group left, it didn't take long for others to begin to make their way out. Everyone congratulated Lacey on the party, as well as giving kudos to Erica for her share of the nibbles.

There were kisses and hugs, and then I heard stuff going on in the dining room.

"What's going on in there?" I wandered over to find two of our guests gathering all the food and putting it into storage containers. "Hey, y'all didn't need to do that!"

The woman smiled at me past her zombie makeup. "Oh, but we do! At least two of our group always stays to help clean!"

"Okay." I moved back into the great room, and then Lacey grabbed my hand, pulling me into the center of the room. "What's up?" I looked at her and then she smiled as I recognized the music starting to play.

"Our song," she said softly as I took her into my arms. We swayed to the music, and I noticed that everyone had paired up, moving slowly to the music. Erica and Travis, Mir and Cathy, Roni and Tina, as well as the couple who had been dealing with the leftovers. When the song ended, Lacey pulled my face down to hers, kissing me fervently. "Let's say goodnight to Margo and Robbie..."
