Early December
Year 1 of Us
Sunday
I sat up in bed as the sun came through the door to the office. "Lacey?" I found my glasses and put them on. "Lacey?"
"I'm in here, love," she called from the office.
I stood up and realized that at some time during the night, I had pulled on my sleep pants. I found my slippers, then walked into the office. I stepped behind her and placed my hands on her shoulders. "Uploading?"
She turned her head and rubbed her chin on my right hand. "Yes. Two more new ones left, which I why I wanted to get some filming done Friday."
"How about older ones?"
"Quite a few in the archives, so that's good." She spun around in the chair and looked up at me. She smiled and pulled me closer, her arms going around my waist. "I had the oddest dream last night."
"Really?"
She snuggled her face into my stomach. "Yes, really." Her voice was kind of muffled, then she tilted her face up to look at me. "Do you want to know about it?"
"Sure."
"Take me back to bed, and I'll tell you." She stood up and I took her in my arms, lifting her up and carrying her back to bed.
I gently placed her on it, then I settled in beside her. "Very well, my princess, tell me about your dream."
"I, um, relived that last night we were together. Before Gwen..."
"Passed."
"Yes. I'm sorry, love." She took me into her arms and held me for a few moments.
I smiled slightly. "That was also the first time I met Erica, too. Travis and the kids, too."
"Yes." I could feel Lacey's smile against my chest. "What do you remember, Wyatt?"
"It was really rainy that night, and I was asleep. There was a knock at our door, the doorbell rang, and my phone went off. I was fumbling around when I heard Gwen open the door. The dogs were going nuts, and people were coming inside."
"That was us. Gwen knew me, of course, so she automatically invited all four of us inside." She patted my chest. "She went into mama mode immediately. Pointed me to your bedroom and took Erica and the kids into the bathroom."
"Sounds like her. I remember getting up and Daisy was barking at you."
She laughed. "Ollie just wanted me to give him pets."
"You know how he was. Everyone was always there to see him."
"He was a good boy." Lacey said.
"Yes, he was."
"You came to me and gave me a big hug. I was soaked, and you mentioned that." She giggled. "Then Gwen came in and told you to strip me down and get me into dry clothes. She did warn you that playing wasn't going to happen right then. She also grabbed a bunch of clothes and hurried to the other bathroom. I don't think either of us expected that I'd be naked and soaking wet in your house."
"It surprised me, that's for sure. The whole thing did." I kissed her hair.
"You wrapped me in a huge towel and dried me off. Then you got me into a robe that she said you never wore, and we went out into the family room."
"I remember that you made that robe look amazing." I said.
"Thank you, love." Lacey replied.
"You're most welcome, my princess. I remember that Erica was sitting on the couch and her kids were cuddling up to her, Gwen was in her favorite chair, Ollie was trying to get the attention of the kids, and Daisy was lurking in the dining room."
"I remember! She barked any time somebody moved."
"She was a barker, that one," I smiled. "Erica started to get up, and I told her to stay with the kids. Erica said that she wished that our first meeting was under better circumstances."
She snuggled closer. "Do you remember where we sat?"
"You were on the end of the couch."
"And you sat on the hassock. You said that you could look at all three pretty ladies at once from there."
I laughed. "I vaguely remember trying to wake up."
"Oh, yeah! Gwen asked if I had woken you, and you said that I hadn't. You were awake enough to get me dried and dressed in that robe." She rolled her head to look at me. "I still have that robe, you know."
"You do?"
"Yes, and when I'm pregnant, it's going to be worn all the time." Lacey smiled at me. "It'll probably fit better then, too."
I caressed her face, getting my palm kissed. "I think the reason for that little unplanned visit was that I-80 was mostly blocked, so Travis decided to drive down I-5 and cut across to the Bay Area."
"Yes. We had spent time visiting one of his cousins in Tahoe. Once the van got to the Elk Grove area, the right front wheel broke. Once Travis got us to the shoulder, he got out and started swearing."
"I expect that Erica said something to him about *that*!"
She laughed. "She just tapped on her window and gave him a look through it. Once he told her that there was no way he could fix it, they agreed that it would have to be towed to the nearest dealership."
"Okay. How'd you end up at our house, though?"
"I reminded Erica that I had your address, and that Gwen loved me as much as I loved her. We called an Uber, and the driver got us to your house."
I smiled. "While Gwen was getting your things into the washer, Erica asked if she was mad. I knew that she was surprised, not mad, so I told Erica that."
"Oh, yeah!" Lacey giggled. "Gwen came up behind you just as Erica was talking with Travis on the phone. When Erica asked if you would drive her to where Travis was, Gwen said that she should stay with the kids and that I should go with you. After going into your bedroom, Gwen took a shirt of yours and gave it to me to wear."
I kissed her forehead. "I remember that shirt. Do you still have it, too?"
"No. It's hanging in your closet," she laughed. "You got dressed, Gwen gave me a jacket and we headed out."
"As we rolled into the street, I told you to call Travis and ask him what the last off-ramp you passed before the van crapped out. We didn't reach him before the tow truck arrived, but he told us the dealership, so we met him there," I said, remembering.
She purred, "We had Gwen's permission to play a bit, so you learned that I had no panties on, and you played with my kitty while you drove to the dealership."
