I hope you enjoyed the last two chapters. I am going to skip forward a little. I am still not sure how many more chapters there will be. I have at least two in the works now. This one is for fun and ties some things together. Copyright LATL November 2022.
Life after the Lottery, CH 78
Another Big Surprise for Dawn!
Amy and Samantha returned home from their NLP school in Canada on the third weekend of July. Dawn and Samantha were driving Amy and me crazy. They were talking non-stop about going to the airshow as they hurried around getting ready all week. Amy and I had even been having sex at night while they talked in bed.
It was Thursday, and Jeanine and Stan were flying to the show tomorrow, so they would be ready Saturday when it started. They were picking us up at the house at 7:00 in the morning. Amy and I were packed and sitting on the sofa after dinner, watching the craziness show.
"I don't know! Don't take more clothes than you need!!" Dawn yelled as Samantha ran up the stairs.
"What are you wearing in the morning?!" Samantha yelled.
"My jeans...I guess!"
Samantha ran up the stairs with Dawn behind her.
"You know...when she gets this thing, you won't be able to keep the two of them out of it," Amy said and giggled.
"That is what I am afraid of, but that is okay. I received an email this morning from the marketing people at Eurocopter. They have finalized everything with the media. They asked if I could keep Dawn away until 11:00 Saturday morning. I told them I would try."
"What is at 11:00?"
"They told the media they have a special announcement they are going to unveil at 11:00. He said the media thinks it is a new model of helicopter, and they are running with that. He wants all of us to be at their exhibit in the main building a little before 11:00."
"Have they said anything to you about the finished paint job?" Amy asked.
"They just said it was awesome. Even the President of the company is going to be there for the unveiling. He emailed me and said the paint job was incredible."
"Wow. It must look great."
"I only talked to Crystal once because I didn't want to know too much. She told me that Dawn would be shocked."
"Good. I want to see Dawn shocked, just once!" We both laughed.
"This will be the only big surprise I have ever pulled off on her other than the Japan trip," I said.
"I am surprised it has been kept quiet."
"The Eurocopter people haven't allowed any photos of the finished helicopter. He said they were afraid they would be leaked on the internet."
"That says a lot."
"Have you seen my red top!!" We heard Dawn yelling upstairs.
"No!!"
"Linda and Rachel will also be there Saturday," I told Amy.
"How are they getting there?"
"Her small jet. Early tomorrow morning."
"Are you going to wear your pin at the show!!" We heard Samantha yell.
"Hell, yes!!"
"That reminds me. Come with me," I told Amy.
We went to my study. I pulled out a box I had managed to hide for the last few weeks. On the top, I had "Stay Out Dawn!" with a magic marker. I took out a small box.
"Dawn hasn't seen these yet. She said to get some pins," I told Amy.
"Does that work to keep her out of something?"
"Yes."
I handed the jewelry box to Amy, and she opened it.
"Oh, my god! That is so fucking hot!"
One of my other secret projects was ordering some Mile-High-Club pins that Dawn wanted me to get. I contacted the place on the internet where I had ordered one for myself. When I asked if they could design a custom pin, they said sure...if I wanted to pay for it. I sent them an 8 X 10 of the side drawing from the blueprints of our helicopter. Once they got it, they emailed me and asked what I wanted. I had them design a cutout of the EC-135 in full detail. The rotor even has four blades. They had made the main rotor blades big enough that the words Mile High Club was stamped on three of the blades. One word each. The size of the helicopter was about that of a quarter. I had them put a small diamond where the enclosed tail rotor was. The detail they had pulled off was great and not cheap.
"James! This is great!"
"It turned out very well. It is 18-karat gold, and that is a real diamond."
"Awesome! I want one!"
"You have to earn yours!" We laughed.
Amy looked over in the box.
"Damn! How many did you get?"
"After paying for the setup, 100 was not much more than 50. I am taking a few to give to the people at Eurocopter."
"What did these cost?"
"It worked out to be about $75 each."
"They look great."
"Look at this one," I said as I handed her a small red box.
"This is pretty! It has a blue stone instead of a diamond. Is it silver?"
"No. It is solid Rhodium."
"What is Rhodium?"
"The rarest metal on earth. It is almost ten times the price of gold. They use it to plate silver, so it doesn't tarnish."
"This must be for Dawn."
"I thought the pilot should have something special, but she has to earn it!"
"I won't ask how! Oh...what is the blue stone?"
"A tiny blue lapis."
"Is it really expensive or something?"
"No. It has special meaning to Dawn and Native Americans. When she gets her pin, you can ask her about it."
I handed her a blue box.
"This is Samantha's."
"This is perfect. Is it Rhodium too?"
"No, it is platinum with a ruby."
"She'll love it."
"I have one with a tiny emerald for you, but you have to earn it!"
"Oh, I will!"
"Well, I have these taken care of. That's one less problem I have to worry about."
"Someone should write a song about having one less problem!"
We heard the two of them running down the stairs. I grabbed the boxes and hid them under my desk quickly.
"Won't Dawn look there?" Amy asked.
"No. I have a cabinet that is off-limits, and she has one."
"I don't!"
"Just designate one."
"That wouldn't work with sis."
"Where did you two go?!" We hear from Dawn.
"In here!!" I yelled.
Dawn appeared.
"What are you two doing?"
"We came in here so we can laugh at you two so you wouldn't get mad!" Amy said.
"Bitch!" Dawn exclaimed, and we laughed. "Have you seen my red top?"
"The silk one?" Amy asked.
"Yes."
"The one you like to wear?"
"Yes, that one."
"The one with the short sleeves?"
"Yes!"
"The one with the red buttons?"
"Amy!"
"That really pretty one I like?"
"Amy!!"
"It's hanging up in your study where you left all the dry cleaning you brought in Monday while you were running around crazy."
"Oh...thanks..." Dawn disappeared. "Bitch!"
"Don't mention it..." We both laughed at her.
"Did you find my blue top!!" We heard Samantha scream.
"I found them!!"
"They are like a couple of crazy cats!" I said.
"Well, Dawn will enjoy all this."
"She better, for what we are spending."
"James...this won't make a dent..."
"I know. I am happy to do it for her."
We kept hearing the two of them yelling up and down the stairs.
"I have something else to show you," I told Amy and opened my desk drawer and got out two boxes, and handed one to Amy, and she opened it.
"I like this!"
I had gotten Dawn and Samantha a pair of small gold flight wings similar to what the military wear and took them to the jeweler. He had added a mount in the middle and a beautiful one-carat round diamond.
"When are you going to give them these?"
"Once we get the helicopter at the show."
"I am going to take my new camera and the GoPro video camera. I have a suction cup mount for it. I thought I could stick it up inside the helicopter," Amy told me.
