Life after the Lottery, Ch. 30
Hawaii Vacation
A surprise for the girls
I was up early Monday morning making sure everything was ready for my surprise sailing trip. Lieke came out of her room downstairs when she heard me.
"Did you get everything ready for today?" I asked her.
"Yes, I got everything I could in a couple of bags; they are in the car trunk," Lieke told me.
"What about the helicopter tour for Thursday?"
"Taken care of."
"We need to leave by 9:00 to get to the airport. I'll help you cook breakfast, if you will let me."
"You can help," Lieke said with a big smile.
Lieke and I had fun cooking together while the girls slept. I asked her how late they stayed up last night and she just smiled and told me they got to bed 'on-time'. I had a feeling that they had had a little fun last night. Everyone was up and eating breakfast by 7:30, they all wanted to know where we were going for the day. I told them to plan on an outing outside all day and to get ready we needed to leave by 9:00. After more questions that I wouldn't answer and Dawn teasing Lieke trying to get her to tell they gave up and went and got ready. By 8:45 they all had on their bikinis under long t-shirts and were ready to go.
When I pulled into the airport the questions all started again, Amy and Sam had Lieke down in the backseat tickling her trying to get her to tell. Once I parked Lieke jumped out of the car before I could get the top up to get away from them. When I picked up the tickets in the airport and we checked in they all got excited to know we were flying to Kauai.
The flight to Kauai was short and when the shuttle from the sailing outfit picked us up the girls went crazy knowing we were going sailing.
When we got to the south shore harbor and the crew took our bags and escorted us to the catamaran yacht I heard nothing but squeals from all the girls including Lieke. The catamaran was huge with a galley and a bar and plenty of deck space for everyone. The captain introduced himself as Jack when we boarded. I found out he and his wife owned the catamaran, she was the cook as well as his deckhand. A tall young bleached blonde guy that looked more like a surfer than a sailor was also on-board to help. Once the girls were settled down some the captain spent about 30 minutes going over the ship and the safety procedures.
We set sail just before noon. I was having fun watching my group of 'teenagers' explore the boat. The captain's wife Kristi explained we would be sailing along the Na Pali coast for several hours to a reef that we could go snorkeling on. She took us to the galley where a buffet of snacks was laid out then she offered us some sodas and fruit drinks, she said we couldn't have any alcohol until after snorkeling.
As we sailed for the next several hours all of us enjoyed the scenic cliffs of the shore-line and watched the dolphin swim along with the boat. Lieke had talked Amy and Sam into keeping their t-shirts on until after the mid day sun. I visited with the captain's wife in that galley for a while. She and her husband had moved to the islands from California 15 years earlier. They bought the catamaran and had been here since. She was around 40 and very nice looking. The deckhand, Brent, came in to grab some sodas for the girls and introduced himself before he went back out.
"Do you sail every day?" I asked her.
"Most days, we would rather be out here than sitting around the house. It appears everyone is having a good time. Have you been sailing before?"
"No, this is the first time we have been to Hawaii or sailing."
"I'll make sure everyone has a good time. We don't get many private charters; we usually have a boat full of people."
"This was a special trip for us."
"Is that all your family?"
"Sort of, you met Dawn my wife, Amy and Sam the redheads are sisters, they are close friends of ours. Lieke is taking care of the house we are staying in."
"How long have you been here?" Kristi asked.
"Dawn and I have been here for two weeks. Amy and Sam flew in Friday; we are all staying until the end of the week."
"I hope the two redheads don't get sunburned?"
"Lieke is in charge of making sure that doesn't happen. Since you mentioned sunburns, is it okay if the girls sunbathe in the nude?"
"Sure, we don't allow it when it is a group of mixed tourist but since it's your charter, you can do as you please if they don't mind my husband and Brent looking."
"That bunch doesn't care who looks," I told her. She laughed and poured me another glass of pineapple juice.
Sam came running in wanting me to come look at something, when I got outside they had spotted a huge sea turtle swimming near the boat. Dawn was taking pictures of it when I caught up with her.
"Honey this is so much fun; how did you think of this?"
"That's what the internet is for."
I took the camera from Dawn and took some pictures as she ran up to the front of the boat to look at the sea turtle. I took more pictures of everyone as we sailed along the coast for another hour or so. The boat was slowing as we came up on a reef in a quiet cove. Brent came up to the front of the boat to drop the anchor. Once we were ready he explained what to do and not do while we snorkeled.
"Are there any sharks?" Sam asked.
"None to worry about, they don't like redheads anyway," he flirted with Sam.
He took everyone to the back of the boat and outfitted us with snorkel gear and helped everyone into the water. We spent the next hour or so swimming and looking at all the different color fish and the other sea life. Dawn and Amy were doing a pretty good job of swimming down about 15 feet and exploring the reef. Lieke was like a fish; she was swimming with Sam and getting her to dive down to the reef. I had bought a couple of disposable underwater cameras and was taking pictures of them in the incredibly clear water. After awhile Brent shouted it was time to go so we got back on-board.
"You can snorkel again in about 30 minutes, we are going to sail just a few miles to some lava tubes in the cliffs," Brent told us.
Amy and Sam pulled off the wet shirts they had on, Lieke and Dawn sat them down and covered them in more sun screen while we sailed. About 20 minutes later we sailed up near the edge of a grass covered cliff, Brent told us about the lava tubes and what we would see. Kristi came down in her swim suit; she and Brent were going with us to show us around.
We all got in the water and swam toward the cliff. Kristi led Dawn and I inside one of the lava tubes while Amy, Sam, Lieke and Brent went in another. It was so much cooler once we swam inside out of the sun. We snorkeled around as Kristi pointed out some of the wildlife living in the walls of the cave. We saw lots of different colored fish and several eels living in the holes in the wall. Kristi had brought along a bag of cut up fish and was letting Dawn feed the eels after she showed her how. We spent about half an hour swimming around in the cave. When we swam out, Lieke, Sam and Amy were already out horsing around with Brent.
Once we were back on the boat everyone decided they needed a drink and something to eat. We all went in the galley and indulged in the snacks. We all had a beer and Sam got a glass of wine from Kristi after much pleading. Lieke was checking out Amy to make sure she wasn't burning. By the time we went back out on deck we were underway sailing along the coast again.
Sam and Amy had discovered they could go out on the trampoline and lay in the sun as we sailed. They were having a good time looking down at the water as we went. Lieke crawled out there with them with the sunscreen. I watched Lieke rub Sam and Amy's back and legs down as they lay face down looking over the edge. Once she finished the back side she had each of them roll over so she could cover the front. I watched Brent walk up to the front and look a minute then asked them if he could get them anything, Sam asked him if he would get her another glass of wine. When he returned Sam crawled to the edge of the trampoline to take it from him, Brent paused to watch Amy rubbing oil into Liekes' ass. The girls were not wearing thongs but their suits were pretty small and high cut.
