It was not enough to distract me from my growing fury, but it did create a definite pause. The bastard dared to address me once more, "I'm not so sure you'd be able to stand right now, let alone feed by force." He had a point, but that did not stop the rage that grew with every self-satisfied smile flashed at me. "So, pipe down and make yourself comfortable, sweetheart, because you're in no position to make any demands." He said the last bit with a wave of his hand.
The room got extremely silent. You could hear the insects chirping outside. Ryn had covered her mouth. Khaleel looked as if he might vomit. 'Granny' just sat there, mouth agape, staring at Alaric as if she were seeing this man for the first time. I blinked at him. The authority that radiated from his aura caused a chill to cascade down my spine. I blinked at him again. It was all I was in the position to do, and he knew it. Everything he said was true, so in all things that are fair, he was right. He had won.
That did not stop me from reminding him of his place, though.
For the sake of being kind to those in the room who did not offend me, I tried to keep my composure. I was able to make it to my feet, but it did not seem to cause him to flinch a single muscle. Who is this man? What is this man? "You know not whom you speak to, boy?" That word seemed to strike a nerve. His eyes flashed delightfully. Tasty. "Once I am fully functional, I could kill you faster than your little girlfriend can blink. All your kin as well. Trust me, too, when I say there is a great possibility of that becoming a reality due to your complete and utter disregard for the kind of respect I expect and am to be given!" I started naming off things as I put each finger down, "One: You were completely unprepared and awoke me in a haphazard manner, effectively causing my current condition."
Ryn let out a small groan at this, but I was not quite finished yet, "Two: Your horrendously obvious and quite blatant disrespect toward me." He was still smiling. Was this a joke to him?! "Three: You approach me with reckless abandon! Four: You speak OUT of turn!" Try as I might, it was too late. The rage was bubbling over, infiltrating the room with heat. "And FIVE!" He was standing there staring at me with that grin on his face. He decided to walk toward me. Is this man serious?! "You are an ARROGANT FOOL!"
The world started spinning, and I faltered. Waves of electricity extended throughout my body, originating from my arm. My sight steadies, and I notice the sensation began where Alaric was holding me steady. Skin touching skin. I jerked away out of reflex and nearly fell once more. Alaric was there quickly by my side before I hit the ground. He scooped me up and sat me back down with an "Easy there." For all his musculature, the way he handled me was extremely gentle. Everything about this man exuded such strength that you would not imagine he could be capable of a touch so... tender.
"Okay, okay. Just calm down and relax." He raised his hands up for a moment as a small gesture of peace. I dared not take my eyes off him as I glared. The power he held as a subordinate was not to be taken lightly, and I did not trust him. This was dangerous. These things I felt around him were hazardous. "You know, you're a real hot head. I thought Ryn was bad." He chuckled, and Ryn grumbled. "Save your strength! Big bad Ancient can't even stand for five minutes." I parted my lips to retort; however, he seemed to sense this and beat me to it, "Look, you can always punish me later. Promise." I was infuriated with being interrupted, but the promise of future punishment would suffice for his current list of transgressions. Deals are rather fun to be made--especially one so vague.
At this, Granny, once again, spit out her drink. She was not unaware of the smile that slowly spread across my face. The room's attention shifted to the old woman as she began to sputter again. She looked between him and me between gasps before composing herself enough to speak, "Alaric Black! Do not speak so lightly. Spoken words are binding!" The sweet lady looking out for her boy. So cute. It was too late, though. Already spoken. Sealed and bound. He gave her a questioning gaze, and before he could talk, I cleared my throat. Successfully, things were pulled back to me.
