"AAHHhhhhhrrghhh!" Kate screamed in frustration, pushing back her chair to thump her forehead against the dining room table. "Why is it so fucking impossible to find a decent apartment in this city? I thought, you know, 'wait until after the holidays and there should be openings' but noooooo...."
"Welcome to Southern California hunny," drawled Savvy, coming in from the kitchen to sweep away Katie's coffee cup and start setting up for dinner. She paused beside her girlfriend, rubbing her hunched back with a free hand while glancing at the pictures of a nicely furnished apartment on the screen. "Tha looks nice. Wha's wrong with it?"
Head down, Katie reached up to grab the wireless mouse and scroll up. Still without sitting up, she stabbed at the screen with an accusatory finger.
"Sixty. Five. Plus. Community." She desultorily growled to the floor. "Assisted living. By the time I find a place, I'll actually be old enough to live there."
"Yew said it before hunny- 'seller's market' right now." Savvy went back to the kitchen, busying herself with dinner. "Yer place sold fast, and more than yew asked fer so yer sittin' pretty fer now."
"I'd like to hurry up and find something." Kate pushed away from the table, gathering her laptop and notes and stuffing them away in the corner. Once she cleared the table, she took over the chore of setting it and helping make dinner. "At least Meridith finally got the Pod and everything was still intact, so that's one less thing to worry about."
"Ah don't know wha yer rush is all 'bout, Katie Kitty," Savvy said, tasting the sauce she stirred on the stove. "Yew know darned well tha we luv havin' you here wit us."
"Though it is a little disappointing to come home to find you dressed in the kitchen," Jerry chimed in coming through the door before sitting down to pull off his work boots. "Still hoping you'll develop your kitchen exhibitionist fetish more."
"It's hard to describe," Katie admitted, sticking her tongue out to him. "I love you guys and don't want to leave either, but this is YOUR place and I'm...disconnected to it. I suppose it doesn't make a whole lotta sense."
"Actually, it makes perfect sense," Jerry responded, grabbing a bottle of juice from the fridge after kissing each of them 'hello'. "It's like when you've dated for awhile and move into the larger apartment together. We've lived here awhile, so all of our stuff is where we've always put it, while most of your things sit in storage. We need to take the time to move you in but keep putting it off, so you feel like a guest." He took a long pull from the bottle.
"Exactly," agreed Katie, taking the first of the plates of food from Savvy and setting them on the table. "I don't have a personal space. Someplace to retreat to if I need a little 'me time'."
"Wha' was wrong with tha' place we went ta'last week?" Savvy speared a chunk of chicken on her fork, then spun a small ball of fettuccine around it. "Lotsa pretty boys and girls all over tha place."
"I loved that apartment!" Katie agreed, toying with her salad. "Nice location, not too far from here or work, pool, nice views of the other residents. Some acted super friendly."
"As in 'drive a six inch spike through a two by four with his dick' or 'sorority girl slumber party' friendly?" Jerry sat up, a bit more interested. College girls in the spring and summer always made great viewing in his mind.
"Both! I practically drooled at all the sexual tension in the air! Lots of them checked us out too. I'm all set to sign a lease right away when I overheard a couple of hot bitches in bikinis talking about Savvy and I by the pool."
"Wait. I'm just now hearing about this?" He nudged Savvy with his elbow. "Why didn't you tell me we could be eating college take-out?""
"She hesitated when the girls called us 'cougars'. By tha'time Katie Couger decided to go fer it, they'd leased it." Katie threw a cherry tomato at her that landed in her abundant cleavage, so Savvy turned her chest so her husband could fish it out himself. "At least she didn't git tha first apartment she visited."
"The one in Ricki's building? Yeah, fucking awkward." Jerry sat back down and bit the tomato in half. "Brian would kill himself trying to bust through his cage every day."
"No thanks. That kind of trouble I'll live without." Katie slurped up a strand of pasta, purposefully letting the creamy alfredo gather on her lips then start to trickle down her chin. "Maybe I should start looking for a condo or another house? Something small and affordable?"
Savvy rose to the enticement of her lover's lips, covered in creamy sauce gathering to drip down off her chin. Coming around the table, she pulled out Katie's chair, sat in her lap and licked her girlfriend's lips clean. Jerry shook his head and kept eating. For only knowing each other a few months before living together, Katie sure knew exactly how to trip Savvy's switches. Not hard to do but still.
"We did talk about buying a bigger place ourselves," he threw out, not sure if they listened or if they lost track of the conversation making out. He didn't mind either way as long as the show was good. And they hadn't disappointed him yet. "Maybe we should put it on the table. Buy or build. I wouldn't mind the chance to build our own place."
"Is it something we want to discuss?" Katie asked, her hand teasingly rubbing Savvy's freshly waxed mound through the leg of her shorts. They visited her usual spa together, coming out freshly waxed, massaged and refreshed after an hour in the sauna.
