It had been a long day and to top things off, she had just gotten off the phone with her ex who had informed her that he was talking to her best friend. Frustrated and heartbroken at the same time, she went to check her e-mail one more time before calling it a night. There were a few junk things, a few forwarded things, and one from an address she didn't recognize. What the hell, she thought as she opened the e-mail. It was from a guy who had read her profile.
Normally, she ignored e-mails from strangers, but as she started to read what he had written, she could feel a smile creep across her face despite her bad mood. What's the worse that can happen? So she wrote him back, thanking him for the laugh, but not really expecting a reply. As she was getting ready to turn the computer off, a new e-mail popped up. It was from him. She couldn't help but read it. This went on for about an hour before he finally asked if she had instant messenger. They talked there for hours, joking and flirting and just talking. Around 2 or 3AM he gave her his #, saying that he had to get off the computer before he turned into a pumpkin, but if she ever wanted to talk...with a huge stupid grin on her face, she went to take a cool shower, hoping to clear her head. She walked across the house, dripping wet, wrapped in a towel, and the first thing she saw was her phone. She nervously dialed the number he had given her and after a few rings she heard a friendly "hello."
They talked on the phone, giggling for a couple hours when he asked if she wanted to come over for a little while. Her head and the rest of her body fought while he softly spoke of the possibilities. She glanced at the clock. 5AM. In just 8 hours she would be serving Easter supper for 9 people. I'm up and he seems nice enough. So she pulled on some pajamas and got into her car. Butterflies swarmed in her stomach as he guided her to his apartment, surprisingly close to her own home. After a few wrong turns, she finally parked and walked up to the balcony where he stood waiting for her. He smiled and hugged her before inviting her in.
They stood talking for a few minutes before he laughed, saying, "you're terrified. Sit down so you can stop shaking." She couldn't help but laugh as she sat across from him. They sat there talking about everything and nothing, laughing and smiling for hours. She glanced up at the clock. 9AM. She stood up and walked over to his bed, grinning cheekily at him and she sprawled out across it. "Goodnight" she said, closing her eyes and faking sleep.
