Author's Note: I highly recommend reading Part 1 of 'Hacking Has Consequences' before reading this episode. Both parts are excerpts from my novel titled 'Wages of Cyn', scheduled for publication in early 2025. This part of the story takes place 2 days after Cyn has been turned.

In the novel, Cyn spends those days learning about her new life, the changes she has undergone and those yet to come. I did not include those pages because much of that information is similar to what Katherine experienced in the 'A Vampire for Christmas' episodes available here, which I invite you to read as well. Examples are: how different levels of Vampire powers are achieved, feeding practices, Vampire aging versus humans. When this part of Cyn's story begins, she is headed back to her flat to retrieve sensitive items and hacking tools.

I hope you enjoy reading as much as I did writing. Comments are always welcome. It's good to know what succeeds, what doesn't and what might need more work. As always, thank you for taking the time to read my stories. The ratings and comments are encouraging and motivate me to write more and to share my musings.

We walked out into the night. My first Vampire night. Everything was so clear. It didn't feel like daylight but I could see into the shadows as if they were softly backlit. It was odd but exhilarating. I noticed Liana and Stephan looking at me and smiling.

"What?" I challenged.

"We forget after a while just how different the world looks through Vampire eyes compared to human eyes," said Stefan. "What do you think?"

"Weird, is what I think. Not bad weird. Everything looks the same but totally different. This will take some getting used to."

"It will," said Liana. "I have never lost my sense of wonder or my memories of what days and nights looked like over 300 years ago before I was turned. I don't think any of us do."

We piled into the limo and were soon at the airport. I got to see all the countryside I missed on my way to the house the first time. It was a pretty drive. I imagined how it would look in sunshine or in rain. I vowed to spend as much time in the light as I could when I was able.

The plane ride was relaxing. I spent most of the time fiddling with my new phone. Liana and Stefan were busy on their phones as well. The plane touched down sooner than I expected after the short flight. As we disembarked, there was a limo waiting by the stairs. We were quickly en route to my apartment.

"What do you think, Stefan? Wait in the car or come with us?"

"With, definitely. More secure. I want her within arm's reach. She learned a few blocking and striking moves yesterday, but full-on combat should it occur? She's not ready. I would prefer she be between us at all times."

"I concur," said Liana. "Cyn, when we go up or down stairs, you will walk between us. Same with going through doors. Got it?"

I nodded. Why did I feel so uneasy all of a sudden?

When we arrived, Stefan stepped out onto the sidewalk. He looked around carefully, then held out his hand for me to step out. I did and stood between him and the limo. We took a couple of steps then Liana got out. Stefan took the lead as we headed toward my building. He held the door open for Liana, then me. I live, lived I should say, in a fourth floor flat. We made our way up the stairs quickly but not at Vampire speed. I figured that was because of me and my lack of control over the changes in my body. I could hear people in their apartments, even was able to tell which shows they were watching. I caught bits of conversations that I could have eavesdropped on if I chose. When we got to my floor, Liana stopped and held out her hand as a signal for us to freeze.

There were noises coming from my flat. The telly was on. Behind that noise there was the sound of a woman whimpering. I could hear someone making grunting sounds and hear bedsprings creaking. There was definitely a man encouraging whatever activity was happening. It sounded like another man mumbling something as well. I was too busy trying to block out the telly to fully make out their words.

Liana whispered to me, "are you expecting someone to be here?"

"No. My friends Sean and Alicia drop by from time to time. She has a key. They would have texted if I wasn't here. Oh, right, my old phone was destroyed. Still, they would not be hosting anyone and would definitely NOT be using my bedroom."

"Stay behind us. When we get inside, move to a spot out of the way of anyone. Don't wait out here in the hallway. Give me your key. Stefan, when we get inside, you go right, I'll go left. Disable if you can. Kill if you must. Let's move."

Liana slipped the key in the lock. She opened the door quickly but under control. She and Stefan were in the room in the time it would take a human to blink. I was a step behind them. I was not prepared for the scene in front of me. There were two naked men standing in the main room. One was looking at the telly, remote in hand. The other was standing near the doorway to the bedroom. In the middle of the room was a dining table chair. Strapped to the chair was Sean, naked. He was not moving and he was covered in blood, with a rather large pool on the floor. I could see his throat had been cut. The room smelled of blood and piss.

Liana was on the guy with the remote before he saw her. I heard the sound of bones cracking and realized it was his hand. When she hit him on the back of the neck, his body went completely limp as he fell to the floor. The guy near the bedroom turned to look toward me just as Stefan reached him. A hard punch to the stomach followed by a blow to the head had that man on the floor. I rushed into the bedroom. I know they told me to stay back. But what I saw horrified me to the point it was either move or crumple to the floor crying.

Alicia was lying face down on my bed. Her hands were tied to the bedposts. She could only grunt since she had some balled up cloth shoved in her mouth. Her face had bruises and her eyes and lips were swollen. She was staring straight ahead and seemed completely out of it. The third man was fucking her like she was an animal. The commotion drew his attention and he stopped mid-thrust to try to ask what was happening. I grabbed his legs, pulled him off of Alicia and threw him onto the floor as easily as if he were a stuffed doll. I kicked him in the head, then his side several times and, finally, between his legs, hardest of all. I wanted to kill him. No. I wanted to break every bone in his fucking body and rip his nuts off and feed them to him.

It couldn't have been more than a few seconds until Liana grabbed me and pulled me off of him. Stefan raced to check on Alicia. At least she was still alive. Barely. Which was more than could be said for her rapist. I had broken his neck and a considerable number of bones. I wanted to rush to Alicia and comfort her. Liana held me tight as Stefan did something to Alicia which stopped her movement. He pulled the cloth from her mouth.

"Fuck, Stefan. Why did you kill her? She didn't do anything."

"Shh," whispered Liana. "She's not dead. Look, she's breathing. Stefan just rendered her unconcious so she couldn't see us, especially you. When we finish here, we'll take the two men you didn't kill with us to interrogate them. We'll call for police and medical services. They'll see that your friend gets to a hospital. As for the psychological damage, there's nothing we can do without exposing ourselves. She doesn't need that. We'll ensure she gets psychiatric care and all the therapy she'll need. She might not ever get over this but she will live. We'll see that she has round the clock protection for a while until we're sure she'll be safe."

I was no longer pissed. I was now completely broken. Looking at my friend, my heart was heavier than I ever remember. Stefan cut her free and covered her with a blanket. We went back into the main room and I screamed in anger and pain as I got a good look at Sean. Not only was his throat cut, but his face was a mass of bruises as were his sides. His toes were all swollen and bloody. A hammer lay on the floor beside him. It didn't take a genius to figure that one out. His fingers all stuck out at different angles. I started toward him. Liana held me back.

"He's gone, Cyn. Those bastard tortured him, then slaughtered him."

"Why? Why would thieves do that just because they stumbled on people being home during a robbery? What kind of animal does this?"

"This was not a home invasion. These are Hunters. Well, the one you beat to death is an ex-Hunter. I told you to stay away. What the hell, Cyn?"

"I didn't think. I just wanted him off Alicia. I didn't want to kill him. That's not true. Part of me did. I definitely wanted to hurt him. I didn't realize I was that strong. Damn, just two days. Will I get stronger and faster?"

"Much. We need to get what we came for and get out of here. I don't know if neighbors have called the police. Plus, the sooner your friend gets to the hospital, the better for her. I'm sorry you had to see this. I'm sorry for your friends. Let's sort this in the limo and on the plane, ok?"

I nodded but I couldn't stop crying and shaking. "Damn, Sean. I'm so sorry. It should have been me," I mumbled.

"If you had been here, it would have been," said Stefan. "Cyn, I want to take some of your stockings to tie these two up. Is that ok?"

"What? Sure, whatever, I'm not riding back with those fuckers in the car. If you're going to move them, do it fast. I just want to start kicking and breaking bones."

I moved to my cubby holes to collect data devices and documents I wanted to preserve. I grabbed my backpack and started stuffing things into it. I wanted to take some clothes and shoes but I didn't want to go back in the bedroom. I killed a man. As easily as I might step on a cockroach. Fuck. What kind of world is this?

Liana watched Stefan tie up the two men. "Shove them in the trunk. Drug them. You know where the kit is. Cyn, I know you wanted to take a more careful scan of the place. Any clothing or personal items you can't live without? We can have a completely new wardrobe for you by tomorrow."

"I can't even focus. I know I have all my hacking stuff. Everything else can stay."

"We'll have our attorneys deal with your estate after your death is reported. We can get any furniture or anything you might decide you want in a calmer moment. OK?"

I shook my head. "Shouldn't we wait for the ambulance to make sure Alicia is ok?"

"We can't. The longer we stay, the more chance we have of being discovered. Stefan has those other two in the trunk." She pulled out her phone and dialed emergency services. We left and pulled the door partly closed behind us.

"Wait, what about fingerprints? I said.

Liana laughed, a gentle laugh, not derisive. "Good luck with that. Stefan and I have never been fingerprinted. Remember? Centuries old? Your fingerprints are to be expected. I doubt they'll dust his corpse. Stefan will be sure to grab anything useful from their wallets, like id's. He'll search them for documents that might be orders or might give us some ability to trace where they came from."

She took my arm and guided me from my flat down the stairs checking each landing and door we passed. This time we moved closer to Vampire speed to reach the limo. A moment later Stefan appeared with a couple of pieces of paper and got in. Liana directed the driver to park up the street a bit until the ambulance arrived and we saw Alicia placed in it. When it left for the hospital, we headed for the plane.

"Well done, Stefan. When we get back, I want you to take these two to Genoa. Helena is definitely going to want to talk with them. I checked my guy for cyanide capsules. How about yours?"

"Clean, said Stefan. We surprised them. No time to do anything but drop to the floor. As for you, Cyn, when you are told to wait. WAIT. Got it? You aren't trained yet. That could have gone badly. Luckily, Alicia was so out of it she could not possibly have recognized you."

"Sean being slaughtered? Me killing a man? Those aren't within your defintion of going badly? It feels pretty fucking bad to me," I yelled. They both looked at me, pity in their eyes. I came to my senses and realized what he meant. "Shit, I'm sorry, Stefan. You're right. We saved Alicia. That definitely could have gone worse. Thank you."

"How long was it until Liana stopped you? Four seconds? Five? I guess now you're a Deadly Cyn?" said Stefan, trying to lighten the mood.

"Shut up. That's not funny," I said. It really was kinda funny. I had to smile.

Liana pushed a button on her phone and waited. "My Queen, we have a problem."

I could only hear Liana's side of the conversation. "Three Hunters were at Cyn's place when we went to get her hacking files and gear. Yes, that was pretty fast from when we first knew of her success. Two of them are still alive. We have them tied up in the trunk for now and drugged. I figured you would say that. Stefan will bring them to you once we land in London so we can get Cyn home. I understand. Yes, we'll do that.

"The third one? Unfortunately, Cyn. She was not to be involved but as the scene played out she reacted to a Hunter who was raping her friend. How? She pulled him off and kicked him to death. I agree, not the desired approach. I don't know. In a bit of shock is my guess.

"Well, yes, there is more. Another of Cyn's friends had been tortured and slaughtered. Tied to a chair, blood everywhere. Slit throat. Anger. Heartbreak. What you might expect. The girl, Alicia, is on her way to the hospital. I'll make arrangements for her aftercare. Thank you Helena, I'll tell her. Will do. See you then.

She hung up, looked at me and smiled. "That went better than I had feared. Helena asked me to offer her condolences for your friends. She wants a full debrief when we see her. She's interested to know how you're coping with what you did and what you felt in the moment. You just killed a human. Normally, we don't want that. Hunters are another matter altogether. How DO you feel?"

"Horrible. I should feel bad about killing that man. I don't. Is that what being a Vampire means? We kill and never feel bad about it? I feel so angry and so sad for Sean and Alicia. I feel guilty as well. If I hadn't tried to hack your system, none of this would have happened."

"That's a lot to unpack. Let's talk about the guilt first. You did not do this to them. Hunters did. You did not know who we were nor the danger you had placed yourself in. You can't hold yourself responsible for that.

"As for being sad and angry. Join the club. When Crown Princess Colleen was human, she was gang raped, stabbed and left for dead. Helena found her and saved her. Normally, she would have just passed by, but she said Colleen looked so much like her previous partner, Idra. She really does. Colleen will probably hug you and kiss you for what you did. Maybe give you a medal?"

"We give out medals?"

"No," laughed Liana. "If we did, Colleen would be awarding you one though. As for Vampires killing humans. We don't do it if it can be avoided. When we must, we try to do it as humanely and painlessly as possible. Princess Katherine was attacked and almost killed in her formative period. We discovered some humans we hired and trusted had helped the Vampire behind the plot. I watched Katherine execute them in front of the other humans in his employ. Decapitation sends a powerful message."

When we arrived at the plane, Stefan took the two Hunters from the trunk of the limo and loaded them into a pressurized cargo area so we didn't have to sit with them. I think he was afraid I would snap and beat them to death. He was not completely wrong. The image of my friends and what they suffered was enraging. I don't think Liana or Stefan would have minded if I took out my anger on the Hunters if they hadn't wanted to interrogate them. Dead men don't reveal many secrets. Liana told me to just relax as best I could. We didn't talk much on the flight back. I was good with that. I kept replaying the scene in my mind. Each time it was more grotesque. I couldn't wrap my mind around my actions, especially the speed and the power I exhibited.

While we were in the air, Liana phoned Akshay and gave him the details. She asked him to send a second security staff person to help Stefan deliver the two Hunters. After that she called Colleen and Katherine. I heard her tell them that we would be at the Queen's place in two days. It sounded like they were expected to be there as well. Great. I'm just trying to figure things out and fit in and now I'm the center of a shitstorm. I didn't see how this was going to end well.

When the plane landed, Liana and I were met by a hyper-cute woman who seemed to be in her mid 20's. Liana introduce her as Jeanette. She was a brunette with short hair with light highlights. She was dressed military style. She shook my hand and said that she was glad to meet me and hoped we could spend some time getting acquainted when things settled down. She had an infectious, warm smile. I was instantly disposed to like her. She oozed confidence and strength. She made me feel...safe, is the best word I could think of. I needed more safe at the moment.

In the limo, Liana poured me a glass of wine. "Drink this. It will calm you a bit. When we get home, it'll be time to settle in for the day. Dawn is not far off. I really want you to feed from me, but it's Akshay's turn. I'll settle for holding you while you sleep. I just want to be close and protect you from the bad in the world." She kissed me and had me snuggle against her on the drive home. When we got there, she said I should stash my stuff in my room, take a quick shower and be naked in bed as soon as I was able. I had no problem with that.

As I crawled into bed in my spot between them, Akshay asked how I was doing.

"Truthfully, I'm a bit numb. So much happened. I know I want blood badly. I don't know if it's hunger or just the need for the comfort of feeding."

"Probably a bit of both," he said. "If you would prefer Liana tonight, I can feed you in the morning."

"Thank you for that. No, Liana and I will likely have a wake up feeding like we did earlier tonight. I want to feel close to you both. So, if you're willing, I want tonight to be you."

He kissed me, turned his head and opened his arms allowing me to fold into them. I kissed his neck and licked it first, then bit, a harder bite than yesterday. When the blood hit my tongue, I let out a loud guttural moan. I wanted to let his blood wash away all the bad of the night. I drank slowly and deeply. My hand again wandered over his body to find his erect member. This time, Liana didn't stop me. Instead she pressed against me and joined me in caressing him. As I drank and we fondled him, his breathing quickened. I could sense his approaching orgasm. He all of a sudden tasted different, sweeter. Liana and I teased him until he finally exploded. About that time, Liana whispered in my ear that it was time to stop feeding. I hated that part, but I pulled away, licked him clean, and kissed his neck. We ended with a deep lover's kiss.

Liana turned me to face her and kissed me as well. "You were amazing today. That was a nice thing you just did for Akshay. You can do that with me next time you feed as well. I would like it. A lot."

"I love you both. I'm sorry I'm being such a problem. I don't mean to be."

"You're not a problem," she said. She pulled me tighter and held me. When she released me she said what we were both thinking. If I had returned home two days ago, I would be dead now. Real, final dead with no understanding of why. I began to tremble. "It's ok, Cyn. You're safe. We're going to make you strong enough that you could have dispatched all three of those Hunters. More even. You're doing fine. You'll be great. I promise. Now, let yourself relax and sleep. Tomorrow we have shopping to do."
