The way I look at him should be criminal.
The thought crossed my mind as he stood in front of me. I was trying hard not to look at him like the snack he was. Of course, he was off limits. He was my boss. He was a doctor where I worked. But damn, did he make the work day fun.
"Rachel, what's going on with this patient?" That smooth voice reverberated through me. It had a hint of an Italian accent, just enough to where you could tell he spoke the language.
"Fever, chills, body aches. It's that time of year, Doc." I said. He nodded.
"Unfortunately." He said as he walked in the room.
After that the day passed by in a blur. Flu season was the worst of it. Wearing a mask all day, doing countless flu swabs. Sending patients home with little more than Tamiflu to help with their symptoms. It was almost time to go home, but I always found a reason to stay late.
"Rachel, can I ask you a question?" It was that voice, that smooth, smooth voice.
The office had cleared out. I didn't realize that he had stayed today. He usually left right after patients were done. My heart skipped a beat. Why was he still here?
"Sure, Dr. B." I said. The nerves were evident.
"You can call me Sam. We're not working." He said, amused.
"Right. Sure, Sam." If this whole thing wasn't weird enough.
"I've seen you looking at me. I just want to know what's so interesting?" He sure as hell didn't beat around the bush, did he? I sat there, dumbfounded. I really didn't know what to say.
"I uh." I stammered. I turned to look at him, he was watching me intently, yet you could tell he was amused. I decided to go for it, just tell him the truth. "You're fun to look at."
He laughed, "Well no one can say that you're not honest." The smile on his face lit up his deep chocolate brown eyes. He took a step closer to me and reached out to touch me on the shoulder.
"Maybe a little too honest?" His hand clamped down on my shoulder as I finished talking. The touch set my body on fire.
"No, just honest enough." His hand moved up to my neck.
"So no sexual harassment complaints then." I said as I took a deep breath in. I looked so frumpy in my scrubs, what was he doing?
"I don't think so." He said as he raised his hand to my face. "I made sure this place was empty."
