"Are you comfortable, Your Highness?"
The knight nuzzled closer to the princess, making sure to keep her warm in the chilling wind. He ran his hand down her arm, feeling the goosebumps that prickled her skin. He gently set his head on her shoulder, lying there, letting out a big breath. She didn't respond to him; he didn't expect her to. He could see her eyes fluttering with sleepiness. He caressed her arm more, running his hands over her hands resting on her side and back up. He scooted ever so closer to her.
The moments passed as he watched her fighting falling asleep. She kept fluttering her eyes, attempting so hard to remain awake. She squeezed her dress she had balled in her hand. He could understand why she so noticeably didn't want to rest but she needed to.
"Your Highness... You need to sleep. Are you not comfortable? Is there anyway I can help you?"
She shook her head, not breaking her gaze fixed on the far wall. He laid back down, pressing himself back against her. This war had made monsters out of all of us. At least he managed to get the princess out of the castle before the attacks started. He closed his eyes, resting his head back onto the princess' shoulder. He sighed, giving the shoulder a kiss. The princess didn't move or respond.
He kept his eyes closed, trying to rest and recover his strength. Trudging on and on to get to the next town had him exhausted. He instinctively moved his hand to wrap around her waist. He could feel himself slowly succumbing to sleep so easily. He nuzzled his hips against her ass as he fell fully asleep. The princess' eyes moved to peer back at him, his hand wrapped around her, and his legs moved to intertwine hers. A look of surprise crossed her face.
She paused stone stiff, pondering what to do next. She decided to just get comfortable nuzzling her ass against him, putting her head back some curl up to him more. She exhaled, feeling how warm he was and how strong his grasp was holding her. His muscled arm around her, and she could feel the heat radiating off of him. She pulled the blanket closer around them both. She peered up at his face, the large scar running across him. Her eyes glinted with sadness, remembering the day they caused this. A man so beautiful, a man gifted by the gods with such beauty, ruined at the hands of a bandit. She had never seen such fury as he cut them down. He didn't care about his face, barely remarking about it.
She shifted to stare up at the wooden ceiling, sighing. She couldn't sleep; she admits it to herself. She rolled her eyes, heading her mother's voice in her head.
"Remember Cadenza! If you can't ever sleep, remember to just count how many times I've said I love you! That's sure to be too many for you to count, and right asleep you will go!"
That cheery voice echoed in her head. Her fucking damned mother... Maybe she would actually still believe her if she didn't run away when the war started. She had taken all the youngest children but not her and her older siblings. Mother wasn't cruel, but I guess that showed her true colors; she didn't believe the children who already had a name for themselves wouldn't survive. We were too vulnerable to attacks, apparently; we were too old to be saved.
Those words echoed in her mind yet again. They started filling every open thought she had. Every word she could think of were those. At least she made it out alive; at least she was safe with a knight who would protect her, and she had at least recently learned how to dress a rabbit so she could manage to find food and get it edible.
She shook her head some, trying to dispel the thoughts. She reached up to grip on the knight's arm at her waist. She laced her fingers with his nuzzling back against him again. She could feel him stir some as he gave a gentle kiss to her cheek before settling back down. She sighed, elbowing him with annoyance for the kiss.
"Oi, Everest! I can't fucking sleep!"
She whispered at him with some aggression. Everest let out a big breath, letting his eyes slowly open. He looked up at her as she shifted some to be up on her elbows.
"Your Highness, I understand you are probably frustrated by your lack of sleep, but it will probably come to you soon. You didn't need to elbow me to wake me up; you had other options. Just lay back down, and I can try to help you sleep."
He spoke in a quiet voice; he had always been rather soft spoken, but recently she had seen him at his most loud and obnoxious. She huffed, settling back down into his arms. He gave her a gentle squeeze, leaning down to give another kiss to her cheek. She decided to not fight back and melt into his grasp. He pressed his hips to her, taking a deep breath.
"You have quite soft skin, Your Highness."
He muttered to her. He started to trail a few kisses on her jaw line as he ran his hand up and down her arm and side. His calculated touch to get her to relax enough for sleep. A gentle caress here and a gentle caress there, and hopefully you would have an asleep princess; this, however, was the first time we were so forward with his affection.
He started to accidentally grind his hips onto her as he moved his way to kiss down her arm. The kisses soon became licks in some spots as he made laps up to her jaw to her fingertips. He kept rolling his hips onto her. He paused out of breath, some looking at her. Her face pink with embarrassment. Maybe he had gone too far; she was the only female he had been around in months. He looked at her apologetically. Her eyes so filled with something he hadn't seen before.
"I apologize, Your Highness. I overstepped; it was only my intention to fill you with nice feelings so you may fall asleep."
He said rather formally, attempting to withdraw the overzealous affections. She sat up to look at him. Her face a mere few inches from his. She had determination in her eyes as she shoved her face forward, pressing her lips to his. She moved her lips some, trying to find a good way to kiss, but she couldn't find it pulling back. He looked puzzled at her opening his mouth to say something, but no words fell out. A million thoughts raced through his head. A million more of why this was a bad idea. A million more for how this was wrong; they shouldn't be doing this. A fucking refugee princess and her protector shouldn't be... shouldn't be doing this. They shouldn't...
