"You here alone?" I asked, already knowing the answer. The girl I asked tried to look coy and surprised, but we both knew that I'd been staring at her for most of the hour. She was sprawled on one of those poolside chairs, tucked away in a corner out of sight from the main resort and the majority of the activity in the pool.
She paused, the flitting of her eyes giving away the answer before those thin little lips of hers could even say it.
"For now, yeah." she smiled, and I smiled back.
It was the second day of my little getaway at a timeshare, just south of San Diego. Had a few vacation days to spend. I didn't expect to get anything more than just drinking a little more than usual, maybe smoking through the reefer I brought with me. A few buds were only half an hour out, and I was thinking of maybe having a little get together barbecue. Just a few relaxing days away from the bustle of the city.
What I didn't expect was some action, and that's exactly what I was starting to want now as I stood there, hitting on some teenage cutie who'd sauntered into my vacation less than an hour ago.
"Mind if I sit here?" I asked, gesturing towards the empty reclining chair next to her.
I could see her grow a little more flustered. It was obvious she'd never been hit on by some stranger like this. But if the slight blush and shift of her legs was evidence enough, it was obvious she liked it.
She gave me a quick nod.
I made myself at home, setting aside a Corona I'd picked up earlier at the poolside bar. I could feel her eyes on me as I stretched out my legs, breathing in a deep breath. I'd felt them before. Curious eyes furtively looking when she thought I wasn't, peering at me above the edge of the iPhone that looked so ridiculously large in those dainty hands.
I'd seen her yesterday too; we'd checked in around the same time. But the difference was that yesterday, she wasn't strapped into a tight two piece bikini like she was now.
I tilted my head towards her, casually raising the bottle to my lips with a playful raise of my brow. Our eyes locked for a moment before she looked back to her phone, trying to hide the smile that curled on her lips. In the meanwhile, it was my turn to stare. And I didn't try to hide it either.
She was Asian, most possibly Korean. Almond eyes complemented the jet black of her hair, looking a little more dark brown in the sunlight, tied up into a ponytail. She was about average height for a young teenager, probably coming up to my chest if we were to stand in front of each other. But Jesus, as young as she was, her body was already coming into itself.
She was a little skinny, sure; I could see the faint outline of her rib when she walked around. But it only accentuated how tight she looked, how long her legs stretched out. I let my eyes linger around her flat belly, at the way her cute belly button rose and fell with her breath. Her chest, almost just as flat, rose and fell in tandem.
She had an even tan all across that smooth, smooth skin of hers, from her cheeks all the way down to her toes. She probably lived a little close by, and with her lack of an accent and general laxness, it was obvious she was born here too.
She kept scrolling through a feed on her phone, trying to look disinterested. I could almost see those eyes
trying
to not look my way.
I caught myself when I realized my beer was halfway gone--I was staring at her for longer than I thought.
I sat up, setting my beer on the little table between our chairs.
"Your parents know you here?" I said, the bluntness of my question turning her face towards me. She stumbled over herself a bit.
"Uh, yeah."
"So where are they?"
"They're uh, just golfing. They like that stuff."
Perfect. I didn't say it out loud, she could probably tell what I was thinking with my grin at her answer. She had come here knowing full well that her parents would be occupied. And I was starting to wonder if it was exactly what I was thinking.
"Well that's good." I winked at her. "Wouldn't want them to worry about you."
She gave me another smile, a less nervous one this time. With the sense of security that I wouldn't have our little meeting be interrupted, I kept going, trying to see how far I could get with this little game.
After a few more exchanges, I got the conversation rolling.
Her name was Lily.
Turns out her parents had the same idea as me. Take a few days off, bring her with them seeing how she was on summer vacation. She said she was an only child, so she easily got bored every time she and her parents came. The corner we sat in was always her favorite spot to waste time away while her parents golfed and lived it up together. She was in that frustrating teenage middle ground where she wasn't young enough to really talk to any of the other kids, but merely on the threshold of adulthood, where she couldn't truly enjoy the nightlife or talk to anyone else.
The trip also doubled as a little gift; she'd just turned eighteen last week, and according to her annoyed sighs, she hadn't had the opportunity to really celebrate it yet. I was skeptical of her claims, but she looked innocent enough to be honest with these sorts of things. Besides, I was far past the point of caring, especially when her long legs stretched out so tantalizingly in the California sun. I tried my best to keep eye contact.
"Lucky I ran into you then, birthday girl. Big 18. Let me help you celebrate it." I said. My Corona was empty at this point. I glanced at it, before words spilled from my lips before I even thought about them. "Want me to get you a drink?"
The offer surprised her as much as it did me. I could only think of the ramifications if I got caught. She certainly didn't look close to drinking age, that's for sure. I thought this was it. The jig was up. Lily would see me as a creep and we'd part ways, and that little flirtation was that.
But to my further surprise, she only smiled, almost mischievously.
"Why not?"
A few minutes later, and we both had bottles of Corona. We clinked them and I stared her down over my bottle as she tentatively raised her own to her lips.
She drank beer like it was vodka.
I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight, trying my best not to hide it. I wondered if she'd even ever had alcohol before. I tried hiding my amusement, wary of embarrassing her. She was trying hard, and I almost looked away when she tilted the bottle higher and winced as she tried drinking it all down.
She got to a third before putting the bottle on the table. She tried playing it off as if she drank Coronas every weekend. I gave her an impressed nod.
Needless to say, conversation flowed more freely afterwards. My jokes landed each time, dumb, trifling little things that somehow made her giggle until her cheeks turned pink. It wasn't until I'd finished my second bottle that I started to flirt more with her, laying it on thick.
She never deflected or shied away, and before I knew it, she was doing it back. Innocent little conjectures, inquiries about my own personal life that were too specific to just be casual banter. Although it was obvious that this was her first time doing this sort of thing (the most she'd probably done was flirt with boys at some party), her effort was impressive.
We were both sitting up now, facing each other. The proximity of our faces made itself aware when the conversation died down a bit, and Lily tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, looking away from my eyes.
Then, again, to my surprise, Lily broke the silence with a question that had
me
flustered.
"So you're staying alone?"
She looked at me out of the corner of her eye as she fiddled with her phone.
I took a moment to gather my thoughts. Was this innocent little thing really coming onto me?
"Yeah." I said. I wanted to see how she steered.
I could almost hear her nervous pulse as she looked away from me again, lips in a cracked grin.
"Where are you staying?"
"Here at the timeshare, of course."
She giggled at that, daring to even reach out and punch one of my arms. I loved the dimples in her smile, the way her eyes looked at me as she laughed. She bit her lip and my own pulse started going berserk. Lily was fucking cute.
