Pete's Taiwan Adventures
A Mia and Sia story

Chapter 2
Pete rose early, dressed in loose clothing for the first training session and took breakfast in the hotel dining room. Western breakfast was unavailable; so, Pete, thinking 'when in Taiwan...' chose the Congee with pickled vegetables, at least they had coffee.
The training venue was a small, non-descript building sandwiched between a bicycle repair shop and another that appeared to sell traditional medicine. Pete pushed on the glass door and entered. Immediately cooler in the air conditioning, he approached a reception desk not unlike the one at his hotel. A lone person sat behind it. An attractive blonde, around twenty he thought; not something you see a lot of in Taiwan, blonds, with Asian features. She had a small, pretty mouth, small straight nose and two velvety brown eyes in a round face.
"Welcome Mr. Townsend, thank you for being early. My name is Sukura, could you please follow me.
She slid from a stool, standing around four foot tall, she wore loose pants and a linen jacket that did little to hide the shape of a very nice set of breasts underneath. It looked like the outfit he was carrying with him except in a deep emerald green. He followed to a room along a hallway.
"If you could please change from your street clothes, you did bring a change, didn't you?" she asked, concern in her voice.
Pete nodded, indicating the small backpack he was carrying. Mia had had the loose linen pants and jacket made for him back in Cairns.
"Alright. Please also no shoes to be worn."
"Okay, thanks, Sukura," Pete watched her leave, admiring the shape of her small bottom, then stepped inside a small locker room. There was a shower cubical at one end, another door led to toilets.
Baskets lay on a low bench seat for his belongings and one other. So, one other man at least in the lessons, he thought.
He quickly changed, then went into the training room.
The room was sparsely furnished, five tatami mats lay on the floor, there was a table with a jug of water and some paper cups. Prints of anatomic diagrams of men and women showing what he assumed were pressure points, or acupuncture points, adorned the walls; subdued lighting came from fittings around the walls.
Two women turned their heads as he entered. Pete did a double take, the two women were none other than Judy Fang and Helen Shi, old friends of Mia's, ex Singapore Girls, they had both been present at Pete and Mia's Commitment Ceremony at Pulao Yoyo Resort. Both were in their mid to late fifties, slim and attractive Asian ladies. Both dressed as he was, in loose linen pants which stopped mid-calf, and a linen jacket tied with a sash.
He walked over to them and hugged them one by one, "I can't believe I'm seeing you here," he said, "you both look fabulous, what a surprise!"
"Yes, well Mia told us about this course, so we signed up. We run a little salon in Brisbane offering waxing, tanning, and massage, H&J Wax and Tan. We both have qualifications in acupuncture from uni, so we thought this was an opportunity to upskill," said Helen.
Just then the door opened, and a young man walked in, also dressed the same way as they were.
He grinned when he saw Pete, "well Mr. Townsend, fancy meeting you here, this is not what I expected you to be doing in Taiwan," he said.
"Well, I didn't expect to see you here either Aiden, I guess I don't read people as well as I thought I did. Oh, these are two friends of mine Helen and Judy," he leaned in conspiratorially, "they are ex Singapore Girls, did the same job as you do."
"Hi Aiden, I'm Helen and this is Judy," said Helen, finishing the introductions.
Aiden shook hands politely with the women. "Ladies, we'll have to catch up and swap stories some time."
They hushed as the door opened and an elderly Chinese man walked into the room. Pete almost did another double take; this day was turning out to be full of surprises. The Master was the elderly Chinese man, from L1 on his flight. He wore similar clothes to the others, but in white. Helen, Judy and Aiden bowed deeply; Pete followed suit.
He looked around, there were four Tatami mats laid out on the floor. No massage style tables as he had expected.
The old man spoke.
"I sense you have all begun to get acquainted, this is good, we will all get to know each other quite well as this course progresses. Please sit, Sakura will serve tea presently. The Master lowered himself onto one of the mats. Seeing no other choice, the others followed suit, sitting cross legged on the mat.
Sukura entered just then, carrying a tray with tea and cups. She silently served them all, bowed to the Master and left.
The Master took a sip of his tea, "please drink, the tea is a special blend, it will help you open your mind, calm your thoughts." He placed his cup down carefully.
"As you may have guessed," he continued, "I am quite blind, I was also born with very small eyelids, as you can see. The so called 'doctors' wanted to correct this when I was three months old, by using my foreskin to fashion new eyelids. Thankfully, my parents rejected this idea, they didn't want me to grow up cockeyed."
Pete stifled a laugh, when he realised the Master had delivered the line with such a straight face, he was either serious or a Master of stand-up comedy as well.
The Master continued, "I do however have heightened sensitivity in my remaining six senses. Welcome Mr Townsend, he turned towards Pete, "Mia spoke very highly of your developing skills, when she was here earlier this year, I look forward to assessing those skills in these sessions, and of course helping you develop new skills."
Wait, Pete thought, remaining six senses? I thought I only had five to begin with.
"Thank you, Master," Pete said and bowed his head.
The Master spoke to the group, "You will all develop new skills during the sessions, do not be afraid to ask questions."
"You will now break into pairs, Helen and Judy, Aiden and Peter. One of you will lay down on the mat the other will kneel beside them, you choose."
Pete and Aiden looked at each other, "I'll lay down first," said Pete, "be gentle with me." He joked.
"Aiden and Judy, you will pass your hands over the patient. Touching will not be necessary at this point. See the patient with more than just your eyes. Read their feelings. For want of a better term in the confines of the English language, 'tune in' to the patient. The energy of the universe is all around us, we can tap into that energy. Blank out all the chatter, focus all your energy on reading the patient."
The time flew by, they all had a couple of short breaks for water and pee only. By early afternoon the Master had announced that they had achieved much. They should break now, relax and come back tomorrow refreshed.
