"Congratulations Kate, you have the job!"
"Fantastic Andrew, thank you so much, I'm really pleased!"
"You'll need to come up to the main office just so we can explain exactly what the job entails, don't worry, you can do it standing on your head!"
I had been working for the company for 3 years or so, I had met Andrew on many occasions and he is a lovely charming man with a wicked glint in his eye, we often flirted and teased one another, but as he was married that's as far as it went. We often shared our problems and when my marriage broke down he was a real crutch for me, more than once he had to listen to me blubbering down the phone.
The promotion meant Andrew would be my boss and effectively I would be running my own small branch dealing with MOD contracts, all a bit hush hush!
So fast forward 2 weeks, I'm sat in an office being told things I already know, nodding at every opportunity and asking questions where appropriate, the boredom alleviated by a smile or a wink from Andrew.
Finally the meeting finished and we said our goodbyes, just leaving myself and Andrew in the office.
"Well done Kate, I can tell they were very impressed with you, how about a celebratory dinner? On the company of course!"
"That would be lovely Andrew, if your not busy of course? I have nothing to dash home for."
"Andy, call me Andy Kate! I'll pick you up from your hotel in a couple of hours then?"
Back at the hotel I showered and got myself dressed, it's not often I get to dress up so I decided to bring my black wiggle dress up with me just in case I went out. Stockings and suspenders and a lovely bra and knickers set completed the vaguely 40's look, and of course the heels, black and white high heeled oxfords.
I sat in the bar waiting for Andy, nursing a large gin and tonic, feeling very pleased with myself. The sly glances from the other drinkers re enforced my ego no end!
"Buy you a drink darling?"
"Erm, thanks but no thanks, I waiting for someone."
"One drink won't hurt will it?"
The next 10 minutes were spent trying to fend off this man, I must say he was handsome in a swarthy sort of way, perhaps carrying a little too much weight but boy was he persistent, bordering on arrogant.
"Look, thanks for your company but my husband will be arriving soon." I lied.
"Lucky bloke!"
As he finished talking Andy appeared at the door.
"If you change your mind darlin' look me up!"
I smiled at him, stood up and walked over to Andy, took his hand and kissed his cheek.
"Wow, what was that for?"
"Sorry, can we go, that man was trying to pick me up, I told him I was waiting for my husband and you are him!"
We laughed about the man as Andy drove to the sweetest little pub, complete with roaring fire. We sat at our table and chatted over drinks.
"So we are married now then Kate!"
"Ha, I didn't know what else to say, he wouldn't take no for an answer!"
"Perhaps I won't take no for an answer Kate!"
