Kelly was having one of those days, where nothing goes right, first crossing to work she'd stood in a puddle. Her coffee had spilled when someone ran into her, he exploded in a fit of complaints, as she quickly mumbled an apology and then continued to work.
As she expected, nothing had been done and as a result, she had to do much more work than she'd have liked, which caused the shift dragged, dull and as boring as ever. Finally got to heading home, it had begun to rain, as a result by the time she made it back she was soaked to the bone, choosing to strip the moment she got through the door.
She wandered through her one bedroom flat and made her way to the bedroom, climbing into bed and turning on the TV, a sitcom, she chuckled along, before her phone went off one of her dating apps as she peered at the notification, a soft shrug, she opened the notification.
'hi there we only live a short distance apart, what are you up to?'
It wasn't the most creative, but it was more than the usual "hi" she'd get. She went to put her phone down, she tended not to respond these days, truth be told she didn't really know why she still had the app installed but it was a distraction here and there. Men were by nature an unimaginative bunch.
Once again, she shrugged to herself and finally replied.
'Watching TV, avoiding the rain! You?'
The message sent and she waited, the ticks turned blue, then the dots.
'Nothing, just playing a video game, bored so scrolling here'
Great a nerd, she thought to herself, which then turned to curiosity as she tapped on his name opening up the profile, his pictures weren't great, tall, long dark hair, but piercing blue eyes, something about him held her attention. In truth at five foot, five she was lean, well built, and could have any guy she set her eyes on. Her long blonde hair at the middle of her back. Kelly was good looking by conventional standards, he however was not.
'Cool'
She replied, figuring that would be it, a lack of interest would send him on to the next girl and she'd get the evening to herself.
'More than you know 😉 '
That was the reply that caught her eye, the cheeky wink emotes. The implication in his words, whatever he had intended suddenly he had her attention. She wondered how this guy had so quickly managed to intrigue her.
'How so?'
Again, the ticks, the dots, his reply.
'Because it's an adventure, a unique quest only available to you. There is no one else capable of taking on this adventure except for you and I'
She had to wonder for a moment, what did he mean? Why was he so intriguing? He was clearly some weirdo wrapped up in his own little world, and yet somehow that made him all the more enticing. He also could just be some head case, but truth be told he didn't seem the type.
'And how do I start this adventure?'
'Depends on the difficulty you choose, easy, normal or hard?'
She frowned now afraid she had lost herself in this little game, afraid she actually didn't know where to go with his question, easy seemed the safest option.
'Easy'
Now she couldn't believe she was staring at her phone, waiting on a guys response, that annoyed her if she was honest with herself. And one of a hundred reasons she'd sworn off dating. It seemed to take forever though in reality it was only ten minutes or a little more than.
'Coffee, my place, 1 hour?'
She swallowed hard in thought, was she ready to meet some strange guy? On some
quest
she had to wonder. It was still raining but it was better than sitting in all alone, so she got herself dressed and as they exchanged a few more texts finally ending with his address. He really was close just a few streets away.
She wondered what the other two options would have been and decided to ask him at some point during the evening. By the time she arrived at the house he was already waiting, a soft smile, his long hair framed those piercing blue eyes. He was about six foot, lean as if he kept in shape.
"H... hi." he stumbled over her words as he stepped aside allowing her to enter, his home was sparse and very much typically male. He had as promised made coffee and poured them a cup, before she sat in a chair, and he offered her the cup.
"Don't worry, it's just coffee," He chuckled softly.
"I'm in a strange guys house, alone, is that not cause to worry?"
"Probably," He replied.
They spent the evening talking, about work, their lives, past relationship and the reasons for being single, Kelly couldn't help but relax in his presence, the knot of tension beginning to fade as she found comfort in his presence.
"So... what were normal and hard options?" She asked.
"I didn't have any, I figured you'd choose easy," He was right of course but she hated a half solved mystery.
"Oh, come on, you're a creative guy," She teased him in response, wondering if he would indeed have an answer now.
"Normal, let's see, dinner, movie, you stay the night," It wasn't a terrible request, well except staying the night, perfectly doable for her she thought.
"In bed with you?" She frowned in response.
"I'd be on the sofa, I'm a gentleman after all,"
She thought on his words, before nodding in response. She had to wonder now what the final possibility would be.
