It was like any normal Friday morning, or it would be if I didn't have an appointment with my therapist. I received a kiss from Marcie before leaving. As I drove to the office, I thought about the relationship I have had with him. He had been my therapist for fifteen years by that point. He was there at my first wedding and was there throughout our time together, including the end when Missy's cancer took her. He was also there during my courtship with Marcie. It was this fact that was on my mind when I walked into his office.
As per custom, he was already in his office waiting. He had a ritual where he would actually spend an actual full hour with a client versus stopping at fifty minutes. It was one of the things that impressed me the most. As he was finishing his meditation, I paused long enough to allow him to center. He then looked up at me and smiled before motioning towards the chair.
"How are you this morning, Leo?"
"I'm pretty good. Just getting ready for our engagement party tomorrow afternoon."
"I received the invite. This is way outside your wheelhouse."
"I know. It's one reason I am a bit nervous."
"She already said yes, Leo. What's worrying you?"
"It's hard to say. Maybe just the fact I never thought of remarrying after Missy."
"You seemed to tell me before that Missy approved, in spirit at least."
"Yes. And so did Marcie's husband as well."
"And her family?"
"They all seemed to approve. Including her twin sister."
"I didn't know she was a twin."
"Meeting her was interesting."
"Did she try to dissuade you as well?"
"She did. And she accepted me like the other ones did."
"I love the way her family opened up to you."
"It was comforting."
"How goes the assistant thing?"
