Matt has been my friend since childhood. He had been there for my angry periods, my sad periods and was also the best man at my first wedding. He has also been the CEO of our company. There isn't many things I hold back from Matt. I had a feeling I was going to break that rule. As I entered his office, there sat Mike. Mike is our security guy. He's head of security actually and I talked him out of resigning due to the incident during the New Year's party. The fact he was sitting in Matt's office troubled me.
"Hey, Leo, I have a couple questions."
Uh oh. I sat down next to Mike before Matt started.
"So, you stepped in to help Aubrey?"
"I did."
"Even after Mike told you not to."
"Yes."
He looked at Mike.
"He also told you he wouldn't take your letter of resignation."
"He did, Sir."
Matt looked at both of us. He then sat down and put his head in his hands.
"Aubrey's ex wants to sue us. He doesn't have a case, but at the same time we have a case against him. Leo, was it self-defense?"
I looked at Matt.
"I was defending Aubrey. He struck down Wesley. I had to act."
"Did he swing at you?"
"Yes."
"Mike, do we have the video to prove it?"
"And a bunch of eyewitnesses."
Matt looked at both of us.
"Guys, I am going to speak candidly here. On one hand, I should be scared out of my mind. I'm not because the asshole came in with a pilfered id card and assaulted one of our employees. Leo, you did your thing. I know it's hard for you to not act. I think if you wouldn't have, Aubrey would have been hurt. Mike, if you wouldn't have put your guys in position, it could have been worse. The guard who gave him the card was fired?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Are we missing anything?"
"What did Janet say?" I asked.
Matt paused.
"She said she never wants to piss you off. It's the first time I saw her shaken. What did you do?"
"One hit. He lunged forward and missed me twice. I took one shot to his gut. That was it."
Mike smiled for a moment before he stopped as Matt looked at him.
"We need a better idea before we throw another party again here."
"No doubt," Mike answered.
