This is my first submission on literotica. Its meant to test the waters a bit. If this is well received, I may publish other stories and/or expand on this setting.
Thank you for reading. Cheers!
Sun streamed in from the open window, casting rays of gold across Joseph's room. Birdsong, carried on a light breeze which eased its way in from the window to tickle his face.
He sat on a wooden chair facing his bed and the person sitting. Long brown hair flowed down to her shoulder blades, furred pointed ears folded and her hazel eyes staring at the floor in thought. She flicked her hair away from her eyes and looked at Joseph. "I give up. What is it?" Joseph responded:
"Come on Mana, just go one more guess." Mana shook her head.
"Just tell me what it is!" Joseph said
"Fine." A long moment passed. Mana cocked her head to the side, and her ears perked up.
"Well?" Joseph threw his hands up in the air in an exaggerated fashion. "Man, you have no appreciation of suspense." Mana giggled. Joseph continued.
"It was 'fox'."
Mana sat up more.
"What?! I guessed canine!" Joseph stared at her.
"Foxes are felines." Mana shook her head once more. "No, they're canines."
"Nuh uh."
"Do they meow?"
Joseph responded quickly. "They don't make noises at all."
"Not true."
"Okay, what noises do they make then?" Mana flicked her hair again and arranged her crossed legs into a more comfortable configuration.
"Well, for one, they bark."
"Really?" Joseph looked skeptical. Mana nodded earnestly.
"Yeah, they do." Then, with a sly look on her face. "And during the mating season, they make eerie screams." Joseph raised his eyebrows and opened his mouth, then closed it. Mana looked at him. "What?"
"I was going to make a comment. It's fine."
Mana locked eyes with him, her ears swiveling to point towards him.
"Oh, it's not fine. Not if you don't tell me what it was." Joseph's face flushed and he looked very intently at a spot on the wall.
"No, really. It's not important." Mana leaned over towards him. "I promise I won't tell." She got up and put her head close to his.
"Whisper it in my ear?" Joseph coughed and moved one of his legs over the other.
He stuttered for a few seconds, then gathered himself.
"I feel I should-um, a-ask a que- can I ask a question?" Mana nodded. He swallowed. "We are- I mean, are we- could you sit back down for a second?" Mana complied.
"What's the question?" Joseph gulped again.
"Friends. Are we, like, I don't know, more-" Mana interrupted.
"Are you asking me if I consider you more than a friend?" Joseph nodded.
"Yeah." She blinked.
"Actually?" Joseph nodded once more. Mana looked at him curiously.
"Okay. Wow. I don't want to be rude, but I feel like I've made that very obvious." Joseph looked down at the floor.
"So no?" Mana stared at him, one ear flicking.
"What? No, I-you are really bad with girls, huh. No, I definitely like you."
Joseph looked up
"Oh! Oh man, I made that so awkward. I'm sorry. I really didn't- we've been friends for so long, I just wasn't sure if... you know. Sorry."
Mana laughed. "You're right. That was really awkward. But yeah, I really do like you." A concerned look came over Joseph's face.
"Is that okay though?" Mana looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?" Joseph looked at his door, then back at her. "It's just. You know. We're-different." Mana's ears twisted towards the floor then back. Joseph continued, carefully. "I'm human- you're a Mutyei."
Mana's face hardened, her eyes steeling before she shook herself and responded.
"That doesn't matter." Her eyes gained a glassy sheen, then she blurted out "Is that- do you care about that? I'm sorry. I overstepped myself. I shouldn't have- we can stay just friends if that's what you want." Joseph just stared at the ground. A tear rolled down her face, and she wiped it off and looked up at the roof. "I'm sorry. Um- do you want to play a board game? You like Go, we can play that." Joseph took a deep breath then addressed her.
"No. You're right. It doesn't matter. I- I love you too." Mana let out a long shaky breath.
