The alarm clock went off. Betty started to stir. She reached over and swatted at the alarm until she hit the snooze button. Just ten more minutes she thought to herself. Knowing that she had to go take care of the heard, she forced herself up anyway. Betty sat up and put her feet on the floor. Reaching over she shut the alarm off so it wouldn't be going off again. Betty turned on the shower and got her clothes out and ready while the water warmed up. After her shower she got dressed and headed downstairs.
"Good morning Betty"
"Morning dad, how are you doing this morning?"
"Well I am doing just fine. Breakfast is ready in the kitchen. Make sure you eat something before you go and feed the heard this morning."
"Will do. What are the plans for today?" Betty asked.
"We need to find ourselves a new bull. Nate is getting up there and it is about time to retire him," Dale said.
"So do you have one lined up yet?"
"No I do not. I figured if you are going to run this farm yourself one day it is about time for you to learn how to find a good bull," Dale replied.
Betty was walking with her plate and set it down on the table at her fathers right hand side. She walked over and gave her dad a kiss on the forehead, before sitting down to the table and eating her breakfast.
"Well is there any advice you can give me to find a good bull?"
"There isn't really special to know. The easiest way is to get a sample to test potency. We really need to start looking now to find a new bull while we can still have Nate active."
"Alright dad I will start my search immediately then."
"That is great honey."
Once Betty finished her breakfast she took her plate to the kitchen. She washed it and set it back in the rack to air dry, She headed to the front door and put on her boots, grabbed her coat and headed out to the barn.
After feeding the herd, Betty starting milking their cows. Hooking them up their industrial milkers. One of the farm hands walked in and started helping hooking the cows up to the milkers.
"I am so sorry Miss Betty, you shouldn't have to be doing this."
"Really Justin, it is fine. I need to be able to do this as well. Seriously what happens if you are not here?"
"True but it looks bad if you are out here doing my job when I am here," Justin said.
"There are several things that need to be done all the time, and I don't expect you to be everywhere doing everything at once. But I do want to thank you for your help. Do you got this from here?
"Yes Miss Betty, I can take it from here."
"Thank you Justin. I am heading to the office I need to start looking for a new bull today."
Betty waved as she headed to her office on the other side of the barn. She turned the light on and sat down at her desk. She turned on her computer and looked over the notes left on her desk while the computer loaded up. Once the computer was up Betty opened her email. Reading through the emails she had one from the FDA stating that they would be out for there quarterly inspections.
Betty picked up the phone and pressed the intercom button. "Justin and Walter please report to my office." She hung the phone back up and continued to read through the emails until both Justin and Walter were in her office.
"Good morning again Justin and good morning Walter. We got an email that the FDA is coming this week so can you guys make sure we have all the paperwork and everything ready to go for when they get here?"
"Yes, Miss Betty," they both replied.
"Good, I thank you both. For now lets make sure that we have copies of all the paperwork for all of the herd at each of their stalls. Of course have the originals ready if they want them."
With that Betty nodded at Justin and Walter. They both stood up and went back to their tasks. Walter pulled the door shut behind them as the left. Betty went back to work trying to find their new bull.
At the end of the work day Betty shut everything down in her office and headed back to the house. She walked in the front door and removed her boot and set them back on their mat. She hung her coat up and heading in to the kitchen where her dad was working on dinner.
"So how did the day go?"
"It went pretty good. I think I have a few leads on a new bull lined up."
"Well that sounds like a good day."
"Yes I will be leaving in the morning to go and check them out."
"Sounds good, I guess I will have to go work tomorrow," Dale said with a smile.
"Well don't work to hard dad, that is what we have farm hands for. So promise me you will take it easy and not to over do it."
"Yes honey," Dale replied. "Well dinner is ready so grab a plate and lets eat."
They both grabbed their plates and went to the table and ate their dinner. Afterwards Betty cleaned up their dishes and joined her dad in the living room. She sat down on the couch and they watched the nightly news as they wanted to stay up to day on the current events as the biased agencies liked to report it anyway.
After they finished their shows they both said good night to each other and headed off to their rooms for the night. Betty went and took another shower. She dried off and laid down in her bed. She picked up her phone and started going through some emails and checking out her social medias. Betty's eyes started to get heavy. She put her phone on the charger and pulled her covers over her and fell asleep.
When the alarm went off in the morning Betty shut it off and started her morning routine. After Betty finished breakfast and cleaned her dishes, she headed out to the barn. In the barn she checked in on Justin and Walter before heading to her office. In her office she turned on her computer and checked her emails and confirmed her appointments to check out a couple of bulls. Betty shut down her computer and headed over to her fathers office.
"Alright dad, I have confirmed my appointments and am off to take a look at some bulls. I am guessing I will not be back until tomorrow evening at the earliest, but I will let you know for sure."
"Sounds good dear, have safe travels and I will talk to you later," Dale said as he got up and walked over to his daughter and gave her a hug. "You will do great and we will see you when you get back."
"I will call you later tonight dad," Betty said as she turned to leave.
The first appoint was several hours away. Betty had timed out the day to make sure she would be able to make all of her meetings that day with a stay at a hotel afterwards. The day went good and she was able to take a look at several different bulls. She headed to the hotel and ordered some room service. She was informed it would be about 45 minutes so she decided to hop in the shower. After finishing her shower she took the robe and tied it closed and went to call her dad. Before she could place the call there was a knock on her door. Betty went and looked through the peep hole. It was her room service. Betty opened the door and the staff member wheeled the food cart into her room. Betty walked over to the desk and grabbed a twenty out of her wallet and handed it to the gentleman. He thanked her and left.
Betty ate her dinner. She pushed the empty cart back in the hallway. She went back to the bed and called her dad.
"Hello Betty, how did it go today?"
"It was alright. I saw several bulls but I am not sure they are what we are looking for."
"How so?"
"A couple of them looked to be older than Nate. One of them was young but small, didn't look very strong at all."
"Oh I see, so are you coming back tomorrow?"
"It isn't looking like it. I have gone through my emails and have set up a couple of appoints for tomorrow. Hopefully I will have better luck tomorrow."
"I am sure you will find us a great bull to replace Nate. Well you have a good night hun I will talk to later. Love you," Dale said.
"I love you too dad. I will call you tomorrow."
Betty hung up the phone. She decide she needed a drink. So she got dressed and headed down to the hotel bar. When she walked into the bar it was pretty dead. She walked up to the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender brought her drink.
"Thank you sir," Betty said as she paid for the drink. "So seems slow in here tonight."
"Yes ma'am it is."
"Well quiet isn't always a bad thing. Thanks for the drink," Betty raised her glass, slid the money plus a tip to the bartender and headed to a table.
